Star of the East

Summary:

Wise beings have traveled a long way for this. Like, a really long way.

Notes:

Work Text:

Something strikes you as odd about the stars in the western quadrant of this jump point. It might be an arduous journey.

1) Check it out. (Lose 2 fuel)
2) Leave it be.

While this sector is nominally under the authority of the Federation, several local administrators exercise significant delegated authority. The human here seems a bit of a megalomaniac, but that's nothing unusual.

1) Ask him about the star.
2) Leave him alone.
3) "Captain, allow me to assess his mental state!" (Option locked--requires Slug crew.)

The human monarch directs you to a small town on a dusty planet below, and asks you to tell him what you find. The bread is very tasty here. You meet a an exhausted mother burping her newborn.

1) Offer them 100 scrap.
2) Offer them divine pheromones. (Option locked--requires Mantis crew.)
3) Offer them holy embalming oil. (Option locked--requires special augment from a previous event.)

The new father is delighted. "Thank you so much. This will help us greatly. We don't have much, but I'm a carpenter, and I'd be honored to help you."

Reward! Doors upgraded.

You have a disturbing dream. An imposing figure--maybe a Lanius?--tells you not to return to the human authority, but to go back by a different direction.

1) Follow your gut.
2) You didn't get this far by listening to dreams. Go back to the human.

Success! You emerge into a disconnected part of the map far from your previous jump point. A little weird, but no stranger than the Crystal sector. Even better, you find schematics for a new ship!

New ship: The Tylopod. Efficient at conserving water and other resources for long wilderness roads. All crew start with upgraded repair skills, testifying to their wisdom. Starts with Long-Range Scanners to track mysterious astronomical phenomena and avoid dangerous local authorities.
