Chapter 1: A vase and a boy

Notes:

Kudos & comment pls.

Chapter Text

Megapolis City. It was once a village that was on the otherside of the sea from Flower Fruit Mountain. Usually, Macaque wouldn't try to go anywhere near the island Mountain, but he heard on the television that an ancient vase was found in a sea cave with strange writing on it.

The vase was now being shown off at the Megapolis museum. This exact vase was one he'd broken and hid in that cave hundreds of years ago.

Wukong had snatched that vase as a trophy when he left Heaven and Macaque had broken it a few weeks later by accident. Wukong was curious about it, but he forgot a little while later.

Macaque chuckled to himself at the memory before his chest began to ache. He walked out of the museum and wandered around the city aimlessly when something bumped into his leg.

He looked down to see a human toddler covered in mud looking up at him in awe. Now, Macaque would usually just walk away at this point, but the kid was clearly different from a normal child.

To the untrained eye, this is a normal child. However, Macaque learned several things from Wukong that were actually useful. Such as the ability to see aura and this child was releasing a lot of it. The aura was a bit similar to Sun Wukong's, which Macaque wasn't fond of, but it was also different as if it is its own individual.

The child clearly had untapped powers that could give someone a power boost if they ate the poor thing. Macaque might be a lot of things, but he's not a complete psychopath.

He isn't going to eat this kid.

"Ooo~," the child said grabbing for his tail.

"Wha-hey! Don't grab my tail like that!," Macaque said.

The child began to whimper. Macaque began to panic.

"Oh! Don't cry. I didn't mean to scare you," he said softly.

The child looked at him in curiosity.

-

'I can't believe I'm doing this,' Macaque thought as he washed the toddler in a bathtub.

The owner of the bathroom was too busy shaking in the hallway after the shadow monkey broke into her apartment.

"Please just hurry and leave," she whimpered.

Macaque rolled his eyes as he got the last of the mud off the little boy. Something amazing happened. A brown monkey tail came out of the boy's back.

The shadow monkey gasped. A thought crossed his mind.

'No, no. That's not possible. Sun Wukong would never.

Then, who?

Who are the parents?'

His thoughts were interrupted by a growling sound. The boy's stomach growled.

"Hey, I'm going to raid your kitchen for a bit," he told the scared woman.

She replied," just do what you gotta do and leave!"

-

Macaque was on a rooftop holding the child as the little boy ate a banana.

"Slow down or you'll choke," he said softly.

The boy was dressed in a stolen T-shirt and his monkey tail was swishing in excitement. He looked up at the sky and began reaching for an airplane flying by.

Macaque smiled at this. In the distance, he could see Flower Fruit Mountain separate by the sea. He couldn't stay here.

Wukong likes to mingle with the mortals from time to time and the chance on running in to each other was high. Also, this child has power and Macaque isn't sure this will be a great place to nurture it.

"I can't believe I'm actually doing this," he mumbled as the boy cuddled into his chest.

He smiled at the child's action.

'I suppose having I could have something to do,' Macaque thought before standing up with child in his arms and walking through a portal.

"Xiaotian. Xiaotian. XIAOTIAN"

Qi Xiaotian woke up with a yelp and fell off his hammock making screeching sounds along the way. His dad just sighed and said," breakfast is ready. It's bamboo shoot soup."

Xiaotian groaned as he got up and went to the outhouse. All his life, he's lived in this rural mountain village attached to cliff. There's more houses down in the valley below. Beyond that there's nothing but forest.

The only way to get out completely to the outside world is by traveling through multiple rope bridges and down a mountain path.

"Xiaotian, hurry up and clean yourself before the soup gets cold!," his dad shouted snapping him out of his thoughts.

-

They were in the middle of eating breakfast. The radio was playing traditional music.

Xiaotian was trying not to panic. Today was the day.

"So, dad," Xiaotian said.

His dad replied," yes?"

Xiaotian continued," I'm eighteen years old now and I have finished my last year of schooling a while ago...and-"

"If you want to go to the outside world, be my guest," his dad said.

Xiaotian was shocked by that. "Wait, you're just gonna let me go? No "you're not ready" or anything like that?"

His dad smiled and asked," do you want me to say that?"

"Uh, no. But in the past you were all "no going to the outside world till you're strong enough", blah, blah, blah," Xiaotian replied.

"A little rude, A-Tian. However, you do have a point. I wouldn't approve if I didn't think you'd be able to take care of yourself. So, where exactly do you want to go?," his dad asked.

Excitedly, Xiaotian said," Megapolis City."

The monkey demon immediately grimaced. His teeth fully showed which meant complete disagreement.

"Come on, Dad! I know you don't have the best idea of the Monkey King, but-"

"Not idea. The truth. He's a completely unreasonable person and it's best to keep your distance," his dad said. The dark-furred monkey frowned as he said it.

Xiaotian was always told that Sun Wukong wasn't as great as the books say, but his dad never tells him what happened to make those accusations.

"Dad, I swear upon my ancestors that I will never go to that mountain," Qi Xiaotian said.

/

Eighteen years had passed since he took Xiaotian in. He's not exactly sure what the young man's true age was, but hybrids tend to age slower than their human relatives as they matured.

Well, if Qi Xiaotian is half human. Honestly, Macaque isn't sure. He could never bring himself to tell the truth about it, though. A part of him does feel guilty about this, but Macaque figured it was for the best.

It's not like he's given Xiaotian a reason to question his heritage. He raised this boy to be smart, strategic, and strong.

"Dad, I swear upon on my ancestors that I will never go to that mountain," Xiaotian said.

'Maybe I'm just being too protective,' Macaque thought as his son began to fidget. The monkey sighed and replied," if you swear, then I have zero objections."

Xiaotian's face lit up. He hugged Macaque tightly nearly making the shadow monkey drop his tea.

"Just promise me you'll stay safe," Macaque said.

"I promise!," Xiaotian said.

Little did Macaque know that this promise would be broken a year later.
