Where the Morning Finds us

Summary:

Rumi wakes tangled between Mira and Zoey, the quiet warmth of the morning settling over memories she’s not quite ready to let go of. With performances paused and the world finally still, the trio slips into a rare day of rest—shared breakfasts, soft teasing, tangled hair, and the kind of intimacy that lives in small domestic moments. No stage, no audience—just the three of them, taking their time.

Notes:

Ok! A bit different from my arcane fic. I didn't really like the way I wrote that one. The tone and writing style seemed really robotic imo. I hope you like this one better!

Work Text:

Rumi woke up with Mira and Zoey's limbs tangled with her own. Vivid memories from last night flashed through her head, causing a blush. Rumi sleepily blinked before sighing and untangling herself. Zoey grumbled unhappily while Mira tried to latch onto Rumi. “Mira, I have to go start breakfast,” Rumi gently whispered. Mira sleepily mentioned something about ordering food before turning over and settling back down. Rumi walked over to the curtains and flung them open before stepping over a few clothes messily thrown across the floor from last night's antics. Sunlight streamed in through the window, hitting Zoe's face perfectly.  Rumi still couldn't believe Celine was wrong about what the girls would do when they found her patterns. Rumi stepped into the bathroom and contemplated taking a shower, but then remembered that her girls would want breakfast when they woke up. Rumi made her way to the kitchen, shaking off the drowsiness still sticking around.

Over the past few weeks, the trio had been taking a break from performances to recollect themselves. After the last one, where they defeated Gwi-ma, even Celin agreed it was fine for a break. Thankfully, the girls' fans understood and were still excited about their last performance. Once Rumi got to the kitchen, she foraged through the fridge to see what she could make. Rumi decided on some Eggs served in a bowl with rice and soy sauce. Rumi knew Zoey would also want something sweet, so she got out the pancake mix and chocolate chips.

While Rumi was focused on the stove, she felt a warm weight lean against her and hands landing around her stomach. Rumi tilted her head slightly to see Zoey behind her, hair tousled from sleep. “Good morning,” she whispered. Zoey buried her face into Rumis' neck, putting more of her weight on her. Rumi looked at the bedroom door, expecting Mira to follow Zoey out. After waiting for a few seconds, she turned back to the stove. “Where's Mira at?” Zoey sleepily blinked at her before yawning. “She wanted to take a shower.” Rumi nodded before looking at Zoey with a playful smirk, “And you didn't join her?” Zoey only hummed before closing her eyes again. “If I knew you were gonna be this tired in the morning, I would’ve had Mira go easier on you last night.” Zoey shot up, a slight blush creeping across her face, “You know im not a morning person anyway.” She grumbled, turning away from Rumi and going to sit at the table. Rumi laughed before flipping a pancake.

After a few more minutes, Rumi heard Mira enter the room and turned to look at her. Mira was glaring at a brush in her hand while her hair was a tangled mess. “We ran out of detangler,” Mira grumbled. Rumi laughed and motioned for her to sit down. “Zoey or I could brush your hair if you’d like.” Mira nodded before heading to sit next to Zoey and handing her the brush expectantly. Zoey nodded, moving to sit cross-legged for better access to Miras' hair. “I love your hair, Mira. It's always so soft and shiny. Even after having a rough night being pulled around,” Zoey remarked. a smirk playing at her pretty lips. Mira was quick to shoot back, “Im surprised your legs still work after last night.” Zoey was about to respond when Rumis' laugh floated over from the kitchen. Rumi walked into the living room carrying three plates with pancakes and rice. “Breakfast is served.” Zoey and Mira nodded appreciatively before digging in.

The girls spent the rest of the day watching turtle documentaries and American movies Zoey put on.
