Work Text:
Teru found himself thinking about his peers that know his position as an exorcist, that weren't his siblings. Yashiro Nene, Aoi Akane, Akane Aoi...after all of the mess that has happened these few weeks, Teru thought the number would be greater. But it was not, thank goodness. I mean Teru slipping up at hiding one of his biggest secrets was definitely unacceptable. Unforgiving, even to himself. For he had more secrets than the average student.
“Strawberry milk or orange juice? ” A distinct voice came from behind where he was sitting. Teru knew he was there before he even spoke, that supernatural presence mixed with human always lingered on him. Naturally of course, it was yet so rare that Teru has only ever felt it on a few others, Akane the most of course. And nobody else.
Without looking at the other boy, Teru replied, “The strawberry milk please.” Staring off into the distance and onto the school garden. His body leaned back calmly, not letting his guard down though, never. The clouds are full and halfway covering the sun. Like the clouds are trying to not show the sun's brightness, yet the sun's light still comes through and onto the rest of the sky.
Akane handed the strawberry milk carton to Teru and sat down next to him. It was long after school ended, there wasn”t even a club left on the campus. Just Teru and him. Sitting on a hill after fighting pointless supernaturals together.
Akane was opening the orange juice carton he was left with, sipping very slightly at it and sharing the sunset view with his president. Akane didn’t realized how he felt now around Teru. yeah Teru still ties him up on the ceiling in the student council room, and still remarks stupid comments on him and his love for Aoi, but it didn't feel like before, it felt more…sincere. Like just playful fighting than an exorcist and supernatural competing against each other.
But Teru didn't open his drink as fast as Akane did, a mere glance at it on the grass next to him before looking back to their school garden, “Aoi, don't you ever feel like there's something wrong with yourself…sometimes?” Teru muttered, still not gazing at Akane, not yet.
Akane took a sip of strawberry milk in response, "Obviously, everybody has thought that at least 100 times in their life, I mean whenever I think like that now it's because of my supernatural side.” Akane replied, with the last bit of his sentence covered in bitterness.
“Huh…”
“Huh? Is all you say?” Answered Akane. “Is the perfect—powerful, gawking, eye-dropping president having rough edges lately?”
Teru finally looked away from his front surroundings and turned his head to focus on Akane. Teru replied to Akane's comment rather smugly, “Is that what you think of your dear president? Me?”
faint sunlight casting down on both of the two teenage boys, falling on their hair and face features. auburn hair became ginger, blonde hair became a halo. Teru's slight smirk with upturned, yet saddened eyes at Akane, clearly focusing now on Akane's loss of glasses on his freckled face. Due to their time spent together fighting those pests of supernaturals earlier.
A few seconds pass with each other, holding each of their own eyes into the others.
“Igh president, don't get cocky, I would never and you know it.” Akane defended himself, then awkwardly looked away from the president and onto the school garden as Teru did a few minutes ago. A blush faintly lay on each other's faces. Teru did the same, Teru pulled his knees to his chest, hugged them, and rested his head in his kneecap. Silent minutes had passed, the wind rustled around them, leaves fell after every shake the wind made against the trees that were hovering over them.
"So, uhm…why do you ask?” Akane asked a little quieter than he intended to, uncertain about provoking the president by asking the big question on his mind. The other boy glanced back at Akane, only briefly, then looked back
“.Hmmm, no reason. Not a reason at all”
