Summary:
Sakura succumbed to the waves, a bubblegum girl who barely understood she should have been scared for her life. The biggest tragedy of it all, probably, was the way that nothing changed that was not for the better.
Sakura died and so Zabuza and Haku lived, and so Sasuke never left, and so Kiri and Konoha now have the chance to sue for peace.
Sakura died, and—shivering in the rain and with the knowledge that she didn't matter enough—she took the blade stuck through her chest and twisted, ensuring that death took.

So my cousin passed away in September of 2025 from suicide. and honestly I've thought of her everyday since. I've been meaning to go through her bookmarks on ao3 to see what kinds of fics she liked to read, and this was one of the fics I was able to find in her bookmarks that had a blanket permission to podfic. I'm probably sharing too much, but I'd love for people to listen and know that this story was one of 96 bookmarks I know that she liked enough to save.
