The crisp winter air nips at their cheeks, their breath forming in little puffs in front of them. Hunter leads the way with Ally tucked under his arm and Tess's arm linked with his. She pulls her hood up tighter, trying to shield herself from the cold.
"You look like a little chipmunk all bundled up like that, babe." Hunter teases, unlinking his arm from his girlfriend's and wraps it around her, pulling her close. "You gonna start storing nuts in your cheeks next?"
"Oh, shut up." Tess chuckles.
"Remind me who's idea it was again to go out the day after it'd snowed to get ice cream?" Ally asks, playfully nudging Hunter's side.
"Hey, I had a craving, sue me." He defends. "Besides, cold or not, who can resist ice cream?"
A smile tugs at Tess's lips. "Only you would consider eating ice cream in subzero weather."
"Exactly! That's why it's a genius idea!" He tightens his hold on both of them as they reach the ice cream shop, miraculously open despite the weather conditions.
The bell jingles as they step inside, the smell of vanilla and other flavors filling the air. The place is nearly empty except for the employees that worked there and one other customer who came with her 2 kids.
"So, what's everyone getting? My treat!" Hunter asks as they approach the counter.
Ally hums thoughtfully, looking over the different flavors and toppings on display. "I'll have a double scoop of cookies and cream with some mini M&M's on top!"
Tess takes a moment to think as well. "I'll have a single scoop of mint chocolate chip with extra chocolate chips on top and whipped cream."
"Great choices!" He says. "I'm getting cookies and cream, too! Triple scoop with sprinkles!"
"Of course you'd go with triple scoop, you bottomless pit." Ally said with a smirk.
Hunter gasps dramatically. "Excuse you! We're on a date in case you forgot. I need to get extra special for this occasion!"
The cashier rings them up as the black haired man pays. The three of them soon receive their dishes after a minute of waiting and sit down at one of the tables near the window.
Ally wastes no time, digging in with enthusiasm. "Mmm! This is so good!"
Tess savors her mint chocolate chip ice cream, enjoying the way the chocolate chips blend with the creamy sweetness.
"I agree." She says, nodding her head. "This was a surprisingly good idea of yours, Hunter."
He beams at the praise. "I told ya!"
"Yeah, yeah. You're a genius, we get it." The black haired woman rolls her eyes playfully, but there's amusement in her tone.
Hunter leans over to steal a bite of Tess's. "Mmm! Yeah, this is definitely worth almost getting frostbite."
Ally giggles and holds out hers towards him. "Wanna try mine, babe?"
"Well, if you're offering..." He says before taking a big bite, a mischievous glint in his eye.
She playfully smacks his shoulder. "Hey! I said try it, not practically devour it!"
"Whoops." Although his smirk obviously gives it away that he did it on purpose.
Tess shakes her head. "You two are ridiculous."
Hunter wipes a bit of ice cream from his mouth with a napkin. "You know you love us."
The black haired woman chuckles. "Yeah, I do."
Hunter reaches over to take one of her hands, squeezing it gently. "And we love you, too."
"So very much, Tess." Ally says, lacing her fingers with her girlfriend's other hand.
The cozy atmosphere of the shop and the snow that was still lightly falling outside made the moment all the better.
"Jeez, it's really coming down now." Ally says, looking up at the sky as she, Hunter and Tess head back home.
"No kidding." Hunter says, pulling his jacket tighter around him. "Who's idea was this again?"
"Yours." Both women say at the same time.
The black haired man laughs, holding his hands up in surrender. "Alright, alright. But we still had a great time, right?"
"Of course. Minus the freezing our asses off part." Ally teases, shivering slightly.
"Yeah, that part wasn't ideal." Tess agrees, a small grin tugging at her lips. "But it was worth it for the ice cream."
"Absolutely!" Hunter and Ally say in unison.
"Though I'm not gonna lie, I'm definitely ready for a nice, hot shower and some warm blankets when we get back." The gamer girl says, rubbing her hands together for warmth. "And maybe a round or 3 of Mario Kart if we're all up for it."
"Count me in!" Hunter says enthusiastically.
"I'm game." Said Tess.
"Prepare to get your asses whooped!" She teases, sticking her tongue out at them jokingly.
Hunter and Tess laugh in response, knowing all too well that she was a force to be reckoned with when it came to video games.
"In your dreams, babe." The black haired man retorts, his competitive side already surfacing.
The snow crunches under their boots as they near their place. They step inside, the warmth a welcoming comfort from the cold outside.
"Soooooo... since we shouldn't waste so much hot water..." Hunter smirks at his two girlfriends. "How's about all three of us share a shower together." He wiggles his eyebrows.
Ally giggles at his suggestive proposal, glancing over at Tess.
"Hmm..." The black haired woman feigns contemplation, her expression playful. "I suppose we do need to conserve water, don't we?"
The gamer girl, however, is already shrugging off her jacket. "I mean... I do love group showers with you two."
Hunter's eyes practically light up at that. "That's all I needed to hear!" He starts unbuttoning his flannel and races towards the bathroom.
Ally squeals and practically trips over her own feet in her rush to follow him. "Wait for me!"
Tess can't help but laugh. Shaking her head with affectionate amusement, she follows them at a more leisurely pace, shedding her own layers along the way.
