Chapter 1: I'll be a hero for you!

Chapter Text

Mitsuki Bakugo is a new mother, so is her closest friend Inko Midoriya. They want their children to be close, so they raise them together.

The two mothers do things together, they understand each other's struggles because they deal with something similar.

As soon as their kids could crawl they'd schedule playdates and all sorts of activities. Freaking out together one either kid was close to speaking or walking.

"Izuku, can you say... Mama? Mama." Inko emphasised the word "Mama" hoping her son, Izuku, would say it.

She would repeat the word over and over, gaining giggles from baby Izuku. Mitsuki tried the same with Katsuki, her child. Katsuki was a grumpy baby but calmed down a bit when he was near Izuku.

Eventually the two babies were close to saying certain words, but not quite there. Saying things like "Ma" or "te-d" to ask for there mother or teddy toy.

All until one day.

"INKO! YOU'LL NEVER BELIEVE THIS!" Mitsuki rang Inko to tell her such important news.

"I ALSO HAVE SOME GOOD NEWS BUT YOU GO FIRST!" Inko seemed also overjoyed about something.

"Katsuki said his first word!" Mitsuki finally got out the good news.

"OH! That's wonderful!! In fact, that's also why I have news! Izuku also said his first word!! What did Katsuki say?" Inko was surprised that the two babies said their first word so close together she was impressed.

"Unfortunately it wasn't mama or mum. But it was still adorable! He said Izuku! Can you believe it?" Mitsuki was laughing, despite her disappointment she was over the moon her baby finally spoke.

"Oh my! That is so sweet! But don't worry Izuku didn't say mama either. He somehow learnt All might! That was his first word(s)!" She found it so humourous, that her kid somehow learnt about All might and decided that was super important.

A faint scream could be heard through the phone, Inko asked if Katsuki was okay when she heard.

"IZUKU!" it was unmistakably baby Katsuki crying and yelling.

It seems that maybe Katsuki wants to see baby Izuku. The two mums plan to meet up to help console Katsuki, and see eachother again.

-

The two babies crawled close to other, babbling nonsense. Katsuki held out his hand and pointed vaguely towards Izuku.

"Izuku!" He looked dead serious then cracked up laughing.

Izuku joined in on the laughter, showing off his baby gums. Inko couldn't resist the temptation and took a photo. Showing in Mitsuki before quickly sending it to her.

When Inko got home she printed the photo and hung it on the wall. She bounces Izuku on her hip showing him the photo.

As babies do he pointed at it and made random noises, and as mothers do Inko indulged him saying yes. Her smile was so very bright and it was clear Izuku had the same smile.

-

Now the boys are toddlers, around three years old. They are having a sleep over at the Midoriya house, together they are playing a bunch of games. Once they wound down, they laid down on the couch, head to either side with a blanket over top. Inko played a PG All might movie for them, the both of 'em were huge fans.

Katsuki and Izuku loved All might collecting many cards, figures and any form of merch they could. They geeked out together and proudly showed off their collection at kindergarten.

By this point they were inseparable, its like they were attached at the hip. Mitsuki and Inko thought it was adorable!

-

They're now four years old, young Katsuki was excited, they would get their quirks soon! The two gushed about it. Fantasizing about their quirks, theorising about the possibilities. Mixing and matching their quirks to their parents.

Katsuki soon got his quirk at a class, sparks flew from his hands! Kids gathered around him amazed by its light.

"WOAH BAKUGO! YOU GOT YOUR QUIRK!" kids whispered and stood by astounded.

Baby Midoriya ran up to him, wrapping his small arms around his shoulders.

"You did it Ka-chan! It's like Auntie's!" Izuku praised young Bakugo, so impressed of his quirk.

Katsuki grinned, like he knew he was going to powerful. He hugged Izuku back.

"I wonder when you're going to get your's! I bet it will super cool! Obviously not better mine, but you'll make an awesome side-kick!" He pointed to himself, loudly proclaiming this statement.

-

"I'm sorry to this Mrs. Midoriya but, your son... Is quirkless. He won't ever have a quirk, you can see by this joint in his pinky toe." The strange doctor delivered the news like someone died.

Izuku's hope did, he cried silently. Hands balled into fists, resting on his knees. Inko covered her mouth with one hand, the other holding Izuku close to her.

Poor Izuku could already imagine the disappointment of his peers, father, teachers and worst of all, Bakugo.

Once the two Midoriyas reached home Izuku ran to his room. Tears streaming down his face, as much as Inko wanted to comfort him she knew he needs space. Instead she informed her husband of their son's problem.

Mr. Midoriya suddenly "remembered" and overseas business trip he must attend. So he packed his bags and alot of belongings that you don't bring on "business trips".

That night Inko called Mitsuki crying her poor eyes out, wondering why her husband would just up and leave her? But no matter what she would never blame Izuku, instead she worried for him.

"Honey, how about you come over for lunch tomorrow? We talk in person and the boys can play together. I think Izuku also needs someone there for him." Mitsuki was devastated for her dearest friend.

Inko nodded her head and mumbled a yes through tears.

"Well, I best be off. I should make Izuku gets to sleep well." Inko wiped her tears and had a drink of water before going upstairs.

"Izuku, honey? Can I come in?" Inko knocked on her son's door.

Izuku quietly grumbled an inaudible word. She asked for him to repeat himself, in a more coherent voice he said,

"No. Please." It was clear he was quiet, and clear he wanted to be alone.

"Alright dear, I'll be in the kitchen if you do ever want to talk." Inko assured her son and scuffled back down stairs.

-

"Mitsuki! It's nice to see your again!" Inko opened her arms for her big hug.

Mitsuki immediately gave her a hug back, squeezing gently. Returning her greeting she asked where Izuku was.

A green mess of hair puffed out from behind Inko's leg as well as a hand hand gripping some fabric.

Mitsuki dropped to Izuku's level,
"Hey dear, Katsuki is just in his room. He missed over the weekend buddy." She smiled softly and encouraged Izuku.

Izuku looked up to his mother's puffy sad eyes, she nodded and off he went.

-

"Izuku! You're finally here!" Katsuki jumped from his bed, where he was kicking his legs.

Katsuki tackled him in a hug, smothering him. Izuku giggled at the affection momentarily forgetting his sadness.

"How come you had to go to the doctors? Are you sick?" He tilted his head when asking the questions.

"Uhm, yeah. I had a fever. I'm ok now though!" Izuku couldn't bear to hurt their imagined future of being heroes side by side.

"Oh ok! Well while you were gone! Guess what my mum bought me?" Katsuki grinned like a gremlin with gold.

This piqued Izuku's interest, he asked what Katsuki had. He pulled two small packets from under pillow, it was card packets for a hero trading card game.

"Wow Ka-chan! How come you haven't opened them yet?" Izuku was amazed but confused.

Young Bakugo blushed from embarrassment, digging his toes into the floor.

"I- uhm. I wanted to open them with you, I have one you have one?" Katsuki puffed out his cheeks.

Izuku smiled brightly and hugged Katsuki again, agreeing quickly. He handed him a packet and they started to count.

"3... 2...1..." And they ripped dopen their packets, both packs revealing a rare All might card.

The two squealed, their pitch being impressively high, so high that their mothers ran in the room thinking their kids were murdered. But instead they were just overly happy.

Inko grabbed the door frame to hold herself up, breathing heavy.

"You both gave me a heart attack!" Inko cried.

"You brats! Keep it down!" Mitsuki yelled at the both of them.

"Sorry auntie!" Izuku squealed, hugging the card tight.

-

The two Midoriyas made it back to their own home, both of them in a better mood.

"Honey, how about I make Katsudon, huh? It's your favourite!" Inko was in the kitchen pulling out a pot.

"Yes please!" Izuku hugged his mum.

"Oh! That's right, did you tell Katsuki? She wasnt too worried, but still wanted to know how young Bakugo took the news.

Young Midoriya froze up,
"I-... I didn't tell him" Izuku gripped the card in his pocket.

"Honey, how come?" Inko put a hand on his head.

"I still want to be a hero with Ka-chan! And if I tell him, he might not want to be friends anymore." Izuku had rivers flowing out of his eyes.

Inko held him close.

-

Several days passed, Izuku had a hard time trying to talk to Katsuki. Usually he was surrounded by kids impressed by his explosive quirk while Izuku just fell into the crowd.

Mitsuki and Inko talked as much as they do but both are adults and have things to do. They can't always meet up.

Eventually, after a few weeks the hype of young Bakugo getting quirk faded as other kids got theirs. Izuku would get a chance to talk to Katsuki again.

As Inko dropped off Izuku one morning she noticed something was off, he didn't have his usual bright smile.

"Are you alright honey?" She asked from the front seat.

"I'm fine, I just have a upset tummy."

"Okay, did you want/need to stay home? We don't need you getting your classmates sick." Inko offered to take Izuku home.

He insisted he's okay, as to not worry his mother yet, the closer Izuku inches to the car door, the knot tightens more and more.

Finally he makes it to the handle and is ready to get out, physically that is. His mind is racing, he has to tell Katsuki soon.

"Will he be mad I kept it a secret so long..? What if he thinks I'm not good enough to still be friend? All his new friends have quirks and I'll be without." Izuku's eyes focus again to see his mother in front of him.

She must've opened the door and grabbed him. She had her hand gently resting on his shoulder as she called his name.

"I'm ready to go." He looks his mother in the eyes with a wonky smile on his face.

-

The bell rung and kids ran outside, the sun blaring onto them. Izuku walked a few steps behind the crowd lamenting the soon event.

"Izuku there you are! I haven't played with you in a while!! Come one let's go climb the tree before anyone else!" Katsuki grabbed Izuku's hand and dragged him to a small ginkgo tree.

The tree was bright yellow with large rock nearby, close enough to let kids be able to climb the tree. Katsuki went first as he was taller and could Izuku reach.

They giggled while climbing, feeling almost rebellious despite the fact that climbing was totally allowed by the school.

By the time they had got higher in the tree and found good sitting Izuku thought this is a good place to talk to Katsuki. Alone, private and overall nice.

"Ka-chan? I have some news." Izuku was very nervous a small stutter appeared.

"What is it?" Katsuki was unaware of the weight of the words Izuku will soon say.

"I'm... I'm quirkless Ka-chan." Izuku's voice was small just loud enough for Katsuki to hear.

His eyes were wide, mouth open slightly. He was unsure of what to say, comfort or laugh at Izuku.

"Well! YOU'LL HAVE TO STAY BY MY SIDE SO I CAN PROTECT YOU! LIKE A TRUE HERO!" Katsuki shouted but still Izuku's heart was touched.

"Thank you Ka-chan" Izuku had such beautiful genuine smile, it was like the sun had blessed Izuku with warmth.
