Work Text:

“I’m not so sure we should go in there…” Danny said even though the room looked as clear and blank as a sheet. “Why not? It’s just a room, you're so annoying when you're like this.” Carl says, clearly done with Danny's paranoia.

“What do you mean just a room? This whole place looks like a horror movie so of course there's something lurking around.” Danny slowly shifted to the side. “But I won't stop you especially if it means I don’t have to go first into that creepy thing.”

“If you aren't going first I guess I have to.” Carl says unbothered, slowly stepping into the weathered bedroom and sticking his hands out. “Look I'm completely fine and you were worried I would get trapped by some evil monster.” Carl says while looking quite smugly at Danny.

“I don’t know why I try arguing with you.” Danny says while stepping into the room. “It’s because you're worried about me but I don't mind it after all it’s kinda sweet. Now let's get looting, we are here for a reason after all.” Carl says while he goes and looks under the bed.

“Oh right… because you decided looting an old building is a good way to spend our time.” Dannys says trying to look less worried than he actually is. “Don’t be like that, I know you like spending time with your cousin.” Carl says while looking through a dresser, while Danny stays in the white framed doorway looking like a cat in the rain.

“I do but not when-” Danny starts, only to be interrupted by Carl. “Look what I found!” “A kaleidoscope? That’s weird, why would that be here?” Danny says while looking at it. “Well I’m going to take a look.” Carl puts the kaleidoscope up to his eye. “Danny, you got to see this!” Carl says, shoving it into Danny's hands.

“Okay, okay, I’ll look.” When Danny puts it up to his eye he sees something truly mindbending, when he looks past all the bright shifting colors he sees the room as if it was brand new, the floor was covered in the toys of the kid who would have slept there and the bed looked as if it was just washed.

“Whoa, this is crazy, everything looks new.” Danny says, amazed as he walks around looking at everything. “I know right, do you think it’s magic?” Carl says excitedly. “Maybe.” Danny says while looking at a cup under the kaleidoscope, only for Carl to sneak up behind him and tap his shoulder.

Only to startle Danny into dropping the cup. “Geez man you scared me.” “Sorry, do you want me to pick up the cup for you?” Carl says a bit guilty. “Sure.” Danny says. But when he goes to grab it he realises it’s gone.

“Huh? That’s weird.” Carl says bit confused, but when he goes around to look for it he finds it on the bedside table glued back together. “Well, that’s freaky.” Carl says a little freaked out.

“I think we should go outside for a bit, this place is freaking me out.” Danny says, grabbing Carl’s hand. “For once in my life I think I'm going to listen to your nervous rambling.” Carl says, walking out of the house into the garden with Danny in hand.

Once they arrived into the garden they both sat down on the edge of the patio looking utterly exhausted. “Can I take a look?” Carl says, holding out his hand. “But what about the cup?” Dannys says confused. “There could have been two cups and we just didn't see the other one until then.” Carl says trying to be rational.

“I guess…” Danny says sceptically, handing over the kaleidoscope. Once Carl had the kaleidoscope in his hands he got up and put it up to his eye. Looking around, his eyes landed on a tree near a pile of sand.

“Uh… Danny?” Carl says surprised at what he saw. “Yes, Carl?” Danny says. “There’s a kid in the sand pit.” Carl says getting increasingly more panic-stricken. “What do you mean? I see no kid on my end, what does he look like?” Danny says confused.

“Green eyed, short brown hair similar to my dads, confused look on his face. Wait… he’s looking at me, it’s not like he can hear me right?” Carl says looking over at Danny. “He’s coming over to me, what do I do!” Carl says, jumping up onto his feet.

“I don’t know!” Danny says worriedly, as Carl runs around the garden. “He’s following me! What should I do!? Help!” Carl says, scrambling around trying to avoid the kid. “I don’t know, maybe run into the forest!?” Danny says panicked.

Only for Carl to run past the garden gate into the woods as Danny stands on the patio. “Please be ok.” Danny says under his breath. A few minutes flew by, even though it felt like an hour for Danny. When he heard Carl past the trees. “Danny! I think I lost the kid.”

“Thank the lord, I was so scared for you!” Danny says running up to Carl and hugging him. But as Carl went to hug back he notices his hands and feet disappearing. “OH MY GOD!” Carl screams as he backs away.

Danny looks confused before noticing his missing hands and feet. “OH LORD! Carl! Do you want me to call nine-one-one?” Danny says extremely freaked out. “No, just get my mom and dad! Please!” Carl begs.

Danny looks at him one more time before running through the garden gate all the way down the street to knock on his aunt's door. Once she finally opens the door he rushes inside. “You got to come to the old house down the street, Carl’s hurt!” Danny says extremely worried.

“Carl? Is that some new friend of yours?” She says confused. “Carl, as in your child.” Danny says, still worried about Carl. “What do you mean? I don’t have any children.” She says, totally baffled at the statement he made.
