Chapter 1: Hank's new partner

Chapter Text

Second person POV

Friday, November 5th, 2038 21:16PM

Rain poured down onto the police station soaking the windows creating an almost cosy effect in the station. The usually busy station being surprisingly calm and quiet was comforting in a strange way.

While You were sitting at your desk filling out some paperwork from past cases occasionally sipping on your d/o/c. You were sitting peacefully and filling out some work. Until...

"Y/n!" Chris calls out to you, causing you to jump out of your skin from the sudden sound breaking through the peaceful silence. He walks over to your desk holding his data pad reading the report aloud to you.

"A murder has been reported over in the old housing estate downtown on 23rd avenue. It says that an android could be involved" Chris explains scrolling through the report keeping his eyes glued to his touchpad reading through the rest of the statement.

"What are we waiting for? Let's go then" You state grabbing your keys and shoving them into your pocket and picking up your coat, draping it over your shoulders to keep from the coldness of the Detroit winter air. Chris follows behind you, the rain begins to pour down over you both as it creates puddles in the potholes that had been here since you had started here.

Before you're able to enter your car a Detroit taxi appears right in front of you. The door opens and out walks an android flicking a coin before dropping it into his pocket, his soft brown eyes looking around his LED staying a neutral blue before turning yellow for a split second as he notices you and Chris before returning back to it's original blue shade. He begins to walk over to the station not reacting at all to the . Only strange thing is he looks different to the other androids you've seen before. normally they all look like the same ten faces, but he looks unique to the others. Could he have been a new model? You shrug before entering your car and starting up the car.

"Can you put the destination into the satnav please" You ask Chris pulling out of the station.

You finally arrive at the crime scene after about ten minutes. The house was basically dead with only a few officers and CSI but you knew in only a few minutes the house would be buzzing with news personnel and nosy neighbours that like to ask too many questions. You sigh at the thought of having to put up with reporters prying as much as they can to get a story out of you.

You exit the vehicle with a sigh, your shoes meet the ground and fall into a puddle. Great. Holding onto your data pad you follow Chris up to the house. The exterior looked awful, trash scattered all across the lawn. It looked like a dump. You approached the house along with Chris, you make your way up onto the porch, entering your met with the rancid smell of a decaying corpse mixed with booze, cigarettes and drugs. A mixture of smells you'd gotten used to by now.

The interior of the house was even the worse, the house was an utter dumpsite. Trash was everywhere like the front yard, except the front yard didn't smell nearly as bad as this. The house smelt like an ash tray and looked like a garbage bin. The only thing worse than the trash littered all around the property and the rancid smell, was the corpse of an obese man lying upwards against the wall just above him written in -what is believed- his own blood the words:

"I AM ALIVE"

Ironic. Was all you could think while advancing into into the house. The font of the writing was perfect almost too perfect. You peered back down at the victims body which was littered with stab wounds mainly in his chest and upper body region.

There was barely anyone at the crime scene yet, the party was just beginning. At least it was easier to investigate right now.

"Y/n, Chris. Go door to door and ask the neighbours if they've seen or heard anything strange over the past couple weeks" Ben requested looking at the two of you, before going back to his data pad.

"On it" You said nodding. You exited the house and are met with the smell of fresh air away from the rancid smell of the house. You made your way to the victims neighbour's house along with Chris.

The house to the right of Carlos' was a lot bigger than his, even though both houses were practically falling apart. You headed up to the porch and knocked on the door.

The woman who answered the door looked dishevelled, tired and stressed, holding a cigarette wedged between her pointer and middle fingers.

"Evening miss, I'm officer Y/n and this is my partner officer Miller" You said holding your data pad, gesturing towards Chris.

"Your neighbour Carlos was murdered" You began in a soft but firm tone. "And we're wondering if you've seen or heard anything unusual or strange in the past weeks?" You ask the woman at the door who raises a brow in shock, then takes a drag of her cigarette before releasing the smoke out.

"I haven't heard anything, I mean the guy rarely ever left his house. I think I've seen him a handful of times" She explained sighing taking another drag of her cigarette. Chris continues typing down what she says.

"Did he have an android?" Chris asks looking up from his data pad.

"Yeah, he had one, overheard him screaming at it a lot. Don't know what model though" She explains, taking a drag of her cigarette after her statement.

"Alright, that's all we needed. Thank you" Chris said looking back up at her nodding.

"Have a nice evening miss" You stated tipping your hat at her.

"Happy to help" She answered flatly, closing the door as you and Chris walk off the porch and towards the driveway.

"At least we know he has an android" Chris pointed out as you head over to the house to the left of Carlos'. The next house you and Chris head over to is just as dilapidated as the others on the street . The house is similar to Carlos' rather than the other house you'd been to.

The neighbour says the same thing as the last one, that the guy is a loner and never leaves his house, and he owned an android.

And the next one

And the one after that

And- you get the picture by now.

The same story from all the neighbours, the guy had an android but he never left his house and he never had people visiting. Perfect.

You and Chris made your way back to Ben to report your findings about the victim. The streets were already covered with nosy neighbours and news personnel prying for answers to their questions. You and Chris manage to push past them before any journalists can start to berate you with useless questions.

You saw Ben waiting outside, most likely for Hank as he has a tendency to show up late or not at all for cases he's assigned to past five. How has he not been fired yet? You and Chris approach where Ben is standing on the porch and explain that the victim was about as anti social as he could be. Along with the fact that he owned an android.

"Wonderful" He says, typing all the information you and Chris had collected from the neighbours which wasn't much.

"We've opened a few windows to let some air in. I still suggest wearing a mask inside." Ben explained as he gestured to the dilapidated house. You dug into your pocket and pulled out a basic blue medical mask, it wasn't uncommon to wear a mask inside a homicide house.

You and Ben make your way back inside looking around along with the CSI. You wrote everything into your data pack as you were all waiting for the corner to arrive, Who was running late as always. Chris decided to wait outside for Hank, taking over Ben's position.

"Hanks here" Chris announced to Ben who swiftly went outside to talk with him . Hank had finally made it to crime scene, an hour late his personal best by now. You looked out the door and noticed Hank, Ben and the android you and Chris saw? What is it doing here? You wondered. You walked back over to the kitchen typing everything down onto your data pack. Maybe you were right and it's a new model for specifically police investigations. Great, now you have an android coming for your job.

Now that you have the chance to look at it closer than when you were back at the station, you noticed its appearance. The android was about six foot something, brown hair done neatly with only one deviating hair that separates from the rest of its hair. Brown eyes. He was attractive, all Cyberlife androids are attractive to be fair. But he looked.. different.

You shrugged, effectively getting the thought out of your head. You walked back over to Chris, who was now standing in the kitchen typing stuff up on his data pad. You lean against the kitchen worktops next to Chris.

"Anything new?" You ask Chris. He looked up at you and then back down at his data pad.

"Nothing really, just that that the running theory is that the attacker used the knife from the kitchen to kill the victim, while he tried to use the bat against them. But no new evidence" Chris explains looking back up at you.

"So... the same theory as earlier?" You ask him lowering your mask a little so that he can understand you a little easier.

"Basically" He replies nodding.

The android began wandering around looking at all the evidence that CSI had collected, seeming as if he was his own lab as he looked at all the blood.

"Hank must be furious" You point out looking at the android.

"Oh trust me he's livid" Chris replied to your comment, letting out a slight laugh that was muffled by his mask.

"Can't blame the guy" You said shrugging, looking over at the android who was opening the door to the garden in the kitchen. It pushed open the door revealing the unkept and messy lawn, Hank followed behind him.

"Door was locked from the inside. Killer must've gone out this way" Hank explained crossing his arms over his chest as he leaned against the door frame. Connor shook its head in response to what Hank said.

"There are no footprints, apart from officer Collins' size ten shoes" Connor explained, looking at back at the muddy ground.

"Well, this happened weeks ago. Tracks could've faded by now" Hank said straightening up from his slouched position against the doorframe, standing next to Connor, who was processing all of this.

"No, this type of soil would've retained a trace" Connor began as it looked back at over at Hank before continuing.

"Nobody's been out here for a really long time" Connor ended before turning around and walking back inside the house, Hank followed him back inside looking around the kitchen where you and Chris were.

It knelt down besides a chair that had been toppled over from the struggle of the murder. It looked as if it was analysing the chair, before he stood back up and continued his analysis of the kitchen. It looked around, kneeling once more to analyse the bat that was left on the floor. It stood up and walked over to where the knife rack was analysing it while it's LED circled yellow for a moment before going back to a cool blue. It gathered all the information it needed and began making it's way back to Hank, who was slumped against the wall in the living room.

You could hear the conversation Hank and the android were having from the living room. Connor had found out what happened and walked Hank through the kitchen. The both of them walked in and Connor began explaining what happened. Chris had decided to wonder off to the living room, leaving you leaning against the kitchen wall by the backdoor. Hank and Connor came in soon after Chris left. They began discussing what happened.

"There are obvious signs of a struggle the question is: what exactly happened here?" Hank stated looking over at Connor, who made an immediate response to his question.

"The victim attacked the android with the bat" Connor responded to Hank's question. Hank almost seemed in impressed... Wait there's an android involved in all this? You thought to yourself.

"That lines up with the evidence, go on" Hank said, gesturing for it to continue. Connor moved towards where the bat was on the ground, his LED circling for a moment.

"The android stabbed the victim with the knife" Connor continued.

"So the android was trying to defend itself, right. Then what happened?" Hank asked, putting his hands on his hips.

"The victim then fled to the living room" Connor explained while he looked over at the doorway connecting the kitchen to the living room. They both left the kitchen, walking through the hallway as you typed up what you'd just heard onto your data pad.

Another two minutes go by as Connor walks back into the kitchen, his eyes focused on the floor, it disappeared into the bathroom, it's eyes glued to the floor. After a few minutes of it still being in the bathroom you decided to check out what it was doing.

"Uhh Connor right? what are you doing?" You ask, but it's eyes were busy looking down at some kind of sculpture in the middle of the shower, with writing all over the tiles. It looked like some kind of alter of sorts.

"Oh my goodness" You say while looking at it. It was... strange. How'd no one think to look in the bathroom? you thought to yourself. Connor picked up the sculpture.

"Hey uhh Connor, don't touch it we need to get pictures, you know for evidence" You explained as if you were speaking to a child.

"No need, I've already taken my own. I'll send them over once I get back to the station" Connor explained to you with no bite only an informative tone.

"Oh right..." You said feeling slightly embarrassed by his response. Of course the super computer android could take photos. You thought yourself. Connor stood back up giving you a slight head nod before leaving. You put on your gloves and carefully placed the sculpture into the evidence bag.

"It found something in the bathroom" You stated, gesturing towards Connor who was in the attic? as you hand the evidence over to the one of CSI guys. You pulled out your data pad and began typing the android's findings in it. Hank began to get uneasy with how long Connor was taking. He walked up to the door that leads to the attic.

"Connor, what the fuck is going on up there?" Hank calls out to Connor.

"It's here, Lieutenant" Connor replied slightly muffled but loud enough so that Hank could hear it. Hank immediately reacted upon hearing Connor's announcement.

"Holy shit. Chris, Ben, Y/n get your asses in here now. C'mon" Hank shouted so that you could all hear him.

The deviant left the attic without any hassle or struggle, it's LED went from red down to yellow as soon as they saw that you and the other officers weren't going to hurt it. Hank immediately cuffed the deviant and lead it outside where all the reporters were. Great, that's going to make headlines by tomorrow morning. The deviant was loaded into Ben's car, before Ben got into the car and made his way to the station. You and Chris followed behind, along with Hank and Connor who were behind the both of you.
