Work Text:
Jonny is the one that dies last. They all left and it was just him and the Toy Soldier. He was old far too old, he couldn't let it go until after a million, that's when he stopped even trying to count. Nastya was the first, Jonny hadn't wanted her to leave, his heart stopped ticking for a while when she did. Ashes next, they just disappeared one day and never came back, they all knew what happened though. Raphaela at least seemed happy with her final experiment. Ivy lived as she died, by her books, he only wished her well. Jonny wished Tim would have stuck around a bit longer, maybe it- it didn't matter though Tim looked peaceful in the end, the first time Jonny had ever seen him like that. Marius ever the dumbass died relativity quickly, to his credit though, Jonny had also forgotten about the octokittens too. Like Ashes, though very much unlike them, Brian just disappears one day, and Jonny is alone save the Toy Soldier.
His heart's ticks flicker. The Toy Soldier knows Jonny well though, it doesn't comfort him it just smiles as it waits for him to die, it doesn't mean that in a bad way, it- he- Jonny cared for everyone on the crew and they loved him back, the Soldier was no different in the end.
It had once told Jonny how he would die though, something Brian couldn't really see. It told him how it always ended this way, how it would stop pretending for a little bit and then end up back in the beginning, back to when the crew was young and the Toy Soldier was new. It just never stopped existing it just did, it said it never had the Heart to stop pretending, so it just lived as it was. And it was so quiet on the ship, so very desolate and empty, Jonny didn't touch a thing from the crew's rooms, the Toy Soldier was quiet too. The Aurora was gone too, deleted herself at a point.
They drift from one populated asteroid to another, Jonny drunk the whole time, he wished the alcohol could numb him the way it used to. The Toy Soldier didn't leave, but it knew that it wasn't worth trying to stop Jonny, Jonny had lived so so long but the Toy Soldier had lived it over and over again it's memory etched into it like the grain of wood on it's body.
And so Jonny D'Ville was happy as he died, he had never really believed in an afterlife, gods and eldritch horrors tormented systems but they killed and had no control of the truly dead. So Jonny D'Ville was just a memory.
The Toy Soldier always felt a bit down when its friends all left it but it would go and find them again. Exist with them. It loved them more than the idea of not existing, so it was happy to stay as it was, never Leaving just existing happily in it's bliss and pain.
