Chapter Text
“Ram.” A child, who was around six years old, called out to another child, who was also 6 years old, and was resting on a hospital bed, in a hospital in Chiba, Japan. The father of the two children, Natsuki Kenichi, was reviewing the documents about Natsuki Ram’s condition, the oldest child of the Natsuki family and the one currently on the bed.
“Multiple rib fractures, a swollen ankle and a wrist sprain.” Kenichi, in a low voice said, with the two kids picking what he said without missing a detail.
“It isn’t that serious, dad. The inj—”
“It’s not just about the injuries, Ram. What about your mental state after that crash?” Kenichi rebuked what she was about to say, with her going silent after he asked that question.
“Definitely not in a great shape.” Ram jokingly said, her smile never reaching her eyes, seeing the ajar door in the process. The wails of her sister Rem and brother Subaru, when she crashed in the circuit at a very high speed haunted her to the core every time she closed her eyes, and her heart wasn’t able to handle seeing them cry their eyes out. She really wanted to leave the sport that she has been part of for the last two years and say to them that she will be with them forever, but—
“But I would be leaving my dream to become a world champion. And I don’t want that to happen.” Ram thought to herself, weighing her options whether to leave the sport and spend more time with Subaru and Rem by their side, or continue to push for her dream, even if it means that her relationship with her siblings will be strained.
“I don’t want to leave this sport.” Ram, with a feeble voice said, catching the attention of both Subaru and Kenichi, who were in the room. They looked at her with pity, seeing her wince while trying to get up after the 30 G shunt into the tire barriers a few hours ago.
“But I don’t want to leave them behind me when I race and enjoy being in the sport. I want them to be by my side in this dream of mine.”
“Hah. I know it is very much difficult to force you to change your decision when I give a suggestion.” Kenichi spoke up, with the two of them turning their heads to him.
“That’s why I will ask you this. Do you want to continue being in this sport and chase your dreams?” The entire room stood still waiting for her answer. The only thing that is audible in the room is the IV drops dripping through the plastic bag that it is held in. Ram was contemplating her choices, then looked at Subaru, who looked at her with worry.
“He really looks cute when he is worried huh.” Ram smiled while thinking to herself. She then looked at her father, who had a soft expression when he looked at her. Sighing to herself, she decided:
“I am not leaving this sport. Matter of fact, I’m doubling down on my dreams, and I will drag both my siblings into this.” Ram declared, with Subaru getting happy and hugging her, thanks to her decision, and her hugging him back in return with a smile. Kenichi looked at the two with a proud smile, seeing his oldest daughter bounce back with enthusiasm.
“Alright. Since you have chosen your decision to be in the sport, it’s time to focus on your recovery, since clearly, we have broken one too many bones a few hours ago.” Kenichi said, to which she just laughed.
Soon after, Kenichi and Subaru left the room where she is recovering currently, not before Kenichi dropping a bomb that she, like Subaru and Rem will also start attending school with them while simultaneously attending karting races and championships.
“The journey is going to get a whole lot rocky, isn’t it?” She said to herself, before trying to fall asleep, waiting for the day when she can clinch her first formula 1 world championship.
