Summary:

Taehyung was his home before the world knew his name.

In a world where love is a secret, and sacrifice is all you have left, how much can one person give before they break? He gave everything to help him chase a dream, but now that dream is the thing that's tearing them apart.

As fame pulls them further apart, the quiet ache of unspoken love threatens to undo them both. Will they be able to fight for each other, or is the weight of their own fears too much to carry?"

Taehyung is a baker, he worked several part-time jobs to send Jungkook for training.

Morning light filtered through the glass windows of "Sweet kook," a quaint bakery tucked into a quiet Seoul street. The smell of warm vanilla and flaky croissants filled the air as Kim Taehyung dusted powdered sugar over a tray of fresh strawberry tarts. His fingers moved with elegance and precision, but there was a distance in his eyes — the kind of sadness worn in silence.

"Hyung! The delivery guy dropped the cream boxes outside!" one of the teenage part-timers called from the back.

Taehyung wiped his hands on his apron and headed to the door. "Coming."

His coworkers bustled around, setting up displays and tying ribbons around bread boxes. Jieun, the sharp-eyed assistant manager, placed a cup of Americano beside him. "You haven't touched your coffee. Again, Boss."

"I will," he said with a faint smile. "Just been... in my head."

Jimin's call came right as he was arranging cupcakes on a heart-shaped tray. He picked up the call putting on a speaker "You're not ghosting me again, are you?" Jimin voice boomed from the other side of the phone.

"I'm working, Jimin," Taehyung said with a soft chuckle. Sitting on the chair in the kitchen.

"You're always working. Come on, let's get bubble tea and talk about my tragic love life." Jimin dramatically made a weeping sound, with soft voice.

"You break up with Yoongi every weekend." Taehyung rubs his forehead with this index finger having a light smile on his face.

"Exactly why I need therapy, and you're cheaper than a real one." Jimin replied sarcastically snorting at Taehyung.

Taehyung laughed again, quieter this time. "I can't today. Big weekend orders." he got up from the chair heading to the oven.

There was a pause. Jimin's voice softened. "He still hasn't said more than ten words to you today, has he? that irresponsible brat."

Taehyung's silence answered for him.

"You're going to wither away, Tae. You can't survive on crumbs forever." Jimin says his was mere more than a whisper.

"Don't worry about me. I'll text you later."

As he hung up, the bell above the door jingled and customers began to trickle in. Taehyung straightened his apron, his warm customer smile falling into place like a mask.

But somewhere between cake layers and customer greetings, his mind drifted back—

[Nine Years Ago]

— High School, Final Exams

Taehyung was hunched over his desk, filling in the last answers on his literature exam with precision. His pen never paused. His brow furrowed in calm concentration. He worked very hard on to top the exam this time. And he will.

Behind him, Jeon Jungkook sat slouched in his chair, tapping his pencil and chewing gum despite the invigilator's glare. His test paper was barely half-filled. He doesn't care about his grade anymore after finding his passion is more important than any other thing for him.

Then a whispered voice. "Psst. Hey. Smart guy. Front row."

Taehyung pretended not to hear. He didn't want caught in this mess of debar and standing infront principal table with his head down.

A crumpled piece of paper landed on his desk. Looking at his left and right he slowly took the paper. He unfolded it — Jungkook's messy handwriting:

'What's Q6? I'll give you half my lunch.'

he don't want to get in trouble but his soft fluffy heart was shattered when he asked for the Q6 as its the easiest one in the whole question paper.

With an annoyed sigh, Taehyung angled his paper ever-so-slightly to the left.

He placed the answer sheet for half an hour so he could copy all the answers, atleast he can pass the exam. He know Jungkook is training for idol. whole school knows, that's why he just pitied and showed the answers.

After the bell rang, Taehyung exited the room, only to find Jungkook waiting outside, leaning against the wall.

"You're my savior, nerd" Jungkook grinned, pushing his dark hair back. "Kim Taehyung, right?"

"Don't make that a habit," Taehyung muttered, walking past.

Jungkook jogged after him. "Hey, I'm not always hopeless. Just mostly, big glass."

They walked side by side till the school gate. Taehyung muttering don't call me names and Jungkook just using more of the nicknames for him, Taehyung stopped talking to rolling his eyes. He held his backpack sides tightly and walked. Ignoring the eyes that given to them.

Standing infront of the gate, Jungkook reached out, ruffling Taehyung's perfectly combed hair dirty blonde hair.

Taehyung froze. His breath caught.

He looked at Jungkook with wide eyes and lips slightly parted.

"Thanks for helping, big glass. You've got nice handwriting, by the way." Jungkook gave his bunny smile.

"You didn't even read it." Taehyung says smirking at him.

"Didn't need to. Just knew." Jungkook shrugs as he walk down the way shaking a bye in the air at Taehyung direction.

Taehyung didn't say anything. But as he walked home that day, he smiled for the first time in weeks.

[Present Day]

At 12:45 p.m. Taehyung wiped his hands after placing tray full of donut in the display box and pulled out his phone. He opened a chat labeled with a star.

[ My world🌟]

[12:45 p.m.] You ate lunch?

No response.

[1:50 p.m.] Don't forget water. You always forget. :)

[3:00 p.m.] Coffee okay? You had too much espresso last night.

[5:10 p.m.] Just checking. Practice going well?

His thumb hovered. Then typed again.

[6:45 p.m.] I made your favorite stew. Come home safe.

He sent it. No reply. Not even for the past texts.

he used to this ignorance but he never failed to show his affection to the idol. He watched the phone light up again, another message left unread. The small bubble of hope inside him flickered, only to be snuffed out by silence.

Jungkook's world was a whirlwind of practice, deadlines, and calls, each demanding more of him until there was barely any room left for anything else — not for Taehyung's whispered worries, not for the quiet ache of waiting.

Every missed reply, every unanswered text felt like a gentle push further away, like standing on the edge of a crowded room while the one person he wanted most was lost in a storm he couldn't reach. Taehyung swallowed the loneliness, folding it into a tight knot behind his smile, telling himself that this was just a season, that someday, maybe, Jungkook would look up and see him waiting all along.

-----------------

STARLIX Dance Studio, 8:30 p.m.

The mirrored walls reflected five bodies drenched in sweat, moving in perfect sync to the pulsing beat of "Heart waves." A new song and new dance choreography. Jungkook led the formation, his eyes sharp, jaw clenched, sweat dripping from his brow.

Hoseok clapped as the music cut off. "We killed it." And they sat on the ground with heavy breathing.

"Again," Jungkook said, voice low. He just wanted finish the set times and head home and sleep on his comfy bed with the warm hands around him.

"Bro, it's been six hours. Even your bones are tired," Yugyeom panted.

"Then they better toughen up. We're not half-assing this comeback." Jungkook says giving a side eye to the man who was panting keeping his hands on knees.

Hyunshik leaned against the wall, chugging water. "You okay, man?"

Jungkook didn't answer.

His body was wired, but his mind somewhere else. Somewhere with powdered sugar and warm stew waiting. He was used to not reply the text and it became a habit even when he read the messages.

2:07 a.m.—that awkward, restless hour when the world outside is deep asleep but your mind refuses to quiet down. It's past the point of exhaustion where sleep feels like a distant hope, yet too early for the morning light to offer any comfort. The apartment door clicked open. Jungkook stepped in, throwing his duffel bag onto the floor with a dull thud.

The lights were dim. Hallways were dark moving front in the hall he noticed. On the dining table: a still-warm pot of stew, untouched. A bowl beside it, set for one.

On the couch, curled in a thin blanket, was Taehyung — hair messy, phone clutched in hand, chest rising in soft breaths. Jungkook approached slowly. His gaze softened.

He knelt beside the couch. Watched Taehyung's sleeping face. His eyelashes twitched.

He leaned in and pressed a kiss to Taehyung's pout.

Taehyung stirred. Eyes fluttered open. "Kook...?"

"You fell asleep on the couch again," Jungkook said. Taehyung sat up, rubbing his eyes. "You hungry? I made your favorite... been waiting."

Jungkook stood. Walking back to edge of the sofa. "I ate outside. Don't wait up next time." Taehyung blinked, stung. It always did he choose silence over the dreadful talk.

"Okay."

Jungkook walked away without looking back.

Taehyung sat still. The stew simmered quietly in the silence he left behind.

After an hour, Taehyung walked to the table. With the empty stomach, it made a grumbling sound he cared less, the lump in his throat was more than the hunger stomach of him. He packed the food away, placed the dishes in the sink, and returned to the couch. He wrapped the blanket tighter, curled into himself, and whispered, "Goodnight."

Jungkook didn't hear it.

But in the quiet hum of the apartment, it echoed all the same.

____________

The dance studio smelled like sweat and polished mirrors.

Jungkook exhaled sharply, muscles trembling under the weight of the last chorus of "Heart waves." The choreographer clapped once. "Take ten."

As the rest of STARLIX scattered—Mingyu collapsing onto the couch, Hyunshik opening water bottles—Jungkook bent forward, hands on his knees, catching his breath. His phone buzzed again. Third time this hour.

[ Taehyung 🍓]

"Don't forget to drink water, Koo."

"Lunch is still packed in the fridge. Hope you eat before 3 if you come home."

"I saw the teasers. You looked... tired. Take a nap if you can?"

He locked the phone. Not replying to any of them but he knows the care and love behind those one line sentences.

Yugyeom leaned over, stretching. "You okay?"

Jungkook grunted. "Just tired.

He didn't mention how Taehyung's messages felt like guilt wrapped in sugar. Or how his own replies, short and dry, left his throat burning later. He didn't want to be pitied or want to talk how weak his heart as become. Numb.

---------

Meanwhile, at "Sweet Kook", Taehyung wiped down the glass display case, the smell of butter and coffee filling the morning air. Jimin popped in again.

"Please tell me you're coming out today." Jimin gave him sad face with big pout adorning his perfectly glamming face.

Taehyung shook his head, trying to smile. "Orders are full. Couple of custom cakes, two party trays. Maybe next week, chim?"

Jimin frowned. "You keep saying 'maybe' and we both know what that means."

Taehyung's hand slowed on the rag. "I'm fine, Jimin."

"No, you're not not fine you just....you just, you're functioning." Jimin says getting up from the side chair slamming his hand on table and stormed out of the bakery.

------

Later that night, the apartment is silent again. Taehyung sets two bowls on the table. Making the normal dinner just to fill their stomachs. He doesn't even bother lighting the candles this time.

His phone buzzes.

[My World 🌟]

"I'll be late again."

One message. No apology.

He turns the flame off on the stove and sits back, staring at the cold soup. With cold heart and longing love in his eyes.
