Chapter Text

First off, this idea is inspired by another story: "Going Dragon" by FriendlyNeighborhoodImbecille, on Fanfiction

So credit for where the idea came from goes to him. Check it out if you are interested. It's a two-shot but still a nice read.

PS: Hybrid Dragon Danny

Chapter 1 Start

It was late at night in Amity Park, and Danny was feeling pretty good right now.

It started out as a simple routine patrol, capturing a few ghosts, making sure none of his rogues were out causing trouble, flying through the sky with the stars and moon over him. Yeah, it was pretty routine.

That is, until he ran into Vlad. A Vlad that was holding onto the Infi-Map.

~Flashback~

Danny was flying through the sky, enjoying the night air and the stars above him. He lazily flew with his back toward the ground and his hands behind his head as he looked up at the constellations. "You know, if I squint hard enough, it almost looks like Ursa Major is playing ball with the moon." He chuckled at the dumb thought, but he was in a good mood right now.

That was until his ghost sense went off.

All semblance of a good mood was instantly gone as he flipped upright and looked around for any sign of the ghost. "Ok, now who is it? Skulker? Ember? Kitty and Johnny?" He slumped as he let out a defeated sigh. "No, it's most likely Box Ghost, I swear, the second I hear 'Beware' I'm gonna blast him right in the-" He turned around and saw who it was in the distance, and it was the only other Halfa he didn't like.

Vlad.

Danny groaned as he knew that whatever the older Halfa was doing, it wasn't good. He looked at the older ghost and saw that he was flying back to his mansion and could see that he was holding something. He focused on what it was and saw that it was a very familiar artifact.

The Infi-map.

The Infi-Map may look just like a long parchment that was rolled up in two rolling pins, but it was a powerful ghost artifact, one that existed since the beginning of all. It was a marker that connected to multiple realities, timelines, and dimensions. If asked, it is said to take you to wherever you want, but a lot of the time, it takes you where you need to be, rather than where you want to be.

Danny was honestly getting tired of Vlad trying to get the map to lead him to his "Destiny". Every time Vlad gets the map, it's always the same thing. "Take me to my destiny", and every single time, it always leads Vlad to somewhere that Danny has to follow and get the map back and make sure that Vlad is dealt with in one way or another. Usually, by Vlad's ego, getting him to make a lot of mistakes, or Danny getting help from his friends to knock Vlad off his high horse.

Danny was on his own this time, but he could not allow Vlad to hold onto the thing, so he would have to do this the smart way. He could tell that Vlad didn't know he was out since the older halfa was flying, rather slowly. This was a good thing. Vlad may be a halfa like Danny, but one of the many things Danny had that Vlad didn't was a ghost sense.

Danny turned invisible before he flew at full speed in order to catch up. It didn't take long for Danny to catch up, and he was flying parallel to Vlad and was looking at the man's back before he nodded. 'Here we go!' He dove right at Vlad, going intangible for only a split second as his hand gripped the artifact and slipped it out of Vlad's hands.

"What!?" Vlad saw the item he had taken a great risk in achieving had vanished from his hand. He looked around in anger as he was ready to destroy whoever it was that had taken the item from him. He saw the map floating away and knew it was his target. He instantly knew who it was, as there were no ghosts that would dare cross him but one. "Daniel!"

Danny stopped his retreat and turned around as he dropped his invisibility. "Aw, and here I was hoping I would be able to get away from this without a fight."He gave the map a hard stare as he hated how it would not go invisible with him, causing him to have to fight the older halfa.

Vlad flew up to be level with Danny and held out his hand. "Give it here, Daniel." His stare would have caused other ghosts to falter. Danny was used to it and was not intimidated.

Danny held up the map and waved it. "What, this? Why would you want something like this? I mean, you really don't need this since you can buy your own paper at the general store."

Vlad bared his fangs as he growled. "I am in no mood for your childish games, Daniel. Now hand it over. With it, I can-"

Danny held up a hand as he spoke up, interrupting Vlad. "Stop. You're gonna say the same thing every time you get this thing. Seriously, Vlad, why do you want to know your destiny so much? For all you know, it could be the same thing I always say. Which is that you would end up single, with a cat, and a lot of money that you don't know what to do with.

Vlad scoffed at the idea. "My destiny is far grander than your childish pandering. I am destined to have everyone fall at my feet as I control all that is beneath me, with my queen at my side."

Danny grimaced as he imagined that and stuck his tongue out as he gagged. After he was done, he looked at Vlad. "That is just what you want, but I'm pretty sure that you won't get it." He instantly had to move to the side as Vlad blasted at him.

Vlad was glaring at Danny. "I will not be denied my destiny." He swung his arm to the side, causing his cape to flutter. "Not again." He then charged at Danny as he was ready to defeat the boy and get the map.

Danny dove under the charge and sent a blast at Vlad with his left hand, holding the map close with his right. "Don't you ever get tired of the same thing over and over again?"

Vlad flicked his wrist to dissipate the blast before he returned fire. "I seek my true place in the world. What would you know about it? You are merely a teenager who has no ambition, no goal you set for yourself to rise above those beneath you."

Danny brought up a shield to block Vlad's attack. He gave Vlad a flat look as he crossed his arms. "I do have a goal. I wanted to be an astronaut, but thanks to all your schemes, the random ghost fights, and my need to stop all of them, I gotta look for a smaller goal. Maybe a simple life, where I can find a girl who will be cool with me and all the weirdness in my life." He flew up as Vlad charged at him again. "What do you think? Is that too simple of a life for you? At least I know that I would accept the girl if she likes me for me. Unlike you, who will never get with the one you want because she is already taken, and you can't just accept that and move on." He was picking at the main thing that would get under Vlad's skin, the idea of having a life with a girl. It was mostly just to get at Vlad, but the idea wasn't that bad.

Maybe one day.

Vlad was grinding his teeth and chose not to allow this to continue. He duplicated himself and sent him after Danny.

Danny yelped at the clone's approach, and he had to fly back to avoid being grabbed. However, his back hit something, and an arm wrapped around his neck. Behind him was another clone that Vlad must have made invisibly. "Argh!" He held the map close to his chest as, even if he was caught, he was not going to let Vlad have this.

Vlad floated up to Danny, absorbing the clone he made to force Danny into the other's arms. "I tire of this farce, Daniel. You will give me the map, and I will release you to enjoy the final moments of this trivial life you have. For once I rule, all of it will end." He floated closer to the younger half to take the map from him.

Danny tried to pull away from the clone, but the hold was too strong. He was annoyed at being caught so easily, and he showed it as he glared at Vlad. "You really need to get a life and stop going for the shortcuts. All you ever do is look for shortcuts, and you are just going to ask the map- AHCK!" Vlad tightened his grip, causing Danny to choke. Not letting Vlad get the last word, he finished his statement. "'Take me to my destiny'."

Vlad chose to ignore the boy and just take the map. However, the map lit up in the boy's hand before it flashed bright enough to cause both Vlad and his clone to cover their eyes, letting Danny go.

Danny had to cover his eyes as well, but he did feel that he was starting to be pulled away. Then, he was moving at a ridiculously fast pace. "WHOA~~~~~"

After a moment, Vlad opened his eyes and saw that Danny was gone, as well as the map. He couldn't even see where the boy went, and he could not help but shout in anger.

Danny ended up crashing onto the ground and groaned as he was not ready for the sudden trip through the skies. He lay there for a moment before pushing himself off the ground. "Ok, I am never traveling through Infi-map-air ever again. I'll take a taxi." Once on his feet, he brushed himself off before looking at the map in his hands. He smiled at how he still had it. Reaffirmed that he won the battle, he looked around and blinked, his mood improving even more at how he was much closer to getting the map away from Vlad and back into Frostbite's hands. "Ok, maybe I will take the map service when things calm down, and I don't have to get it away from the Fruitloop. Though one thing that made the unwanted trip enjoyable was that he was able to hear Vlad shout in anguish at losing the map again.

He jumped into the air and started to fly toward his home. "Sweet."

~end of flashback~

Now, he saw his house, and he could check this as another job finished. He looked at the map and had a thought.

Part of him thought he could use the map in order to get to the Far Frozen faster, but the map is rather unpredictable, given what he just experienced.

Frostbite once told Danny that the map has a will of its own, which isn't the most outlandish thing that Danny could think of, since it is a ghost artifact, and some of them do have wills of their own.

Danny paused right outside his house and looked around for any sign of Vlad, in case the man wanted to try and get the map once more. The older Halfa being able to teleport was the key reason that Danny couldn't just ease up. He smiled as there was no sign of the vampire wannabe, and his ghost sense hadn't gone off, so no minions either. "Looks like my luck is finally changing." He jumped into the air before he phased into the ground so he could make it to the lab faster. The little voice at the back of his head told him that he was poking the bear with that statement, but he was too much in a good mood.

He phased into the ground to head to the lab faster and came through the lab wall and smiled as he saw that the portal was powered on and ready for his arrival. He landed on the ground, transformed back to his human form, and started walking toward the portal. "Dad must have left the portal on again. He's gotta stop leaving it open, 'cause all it does is let the ghosts in every second." He walked up to the portal and looked it over before he nodded to himself. "I should get some stuff before going in. If I end up running into any of my rogues, protecting this would be harder." He looked at the map in his hand before he turned around to head to get some gear.

"Freeze ghost!"

Danny froze when he saw his parents standing about ten feet away with their blasters aimed at him. He was wide-eyed as he didn't even know they were here. His gaze shifted down to his ungloved hands. His mind immediately realized that they must have seen him transform, and he now had to try to explain what was going on. Looking back at them, he lifted his hands to try to calm them down. "Guys, wait-" He flinched to the side as a shot was sent at his hand, and he had to move to avoid being hit.

Maddie narrowed her eyes through her goggles as she was ready to take down this ghostly imposter. "Don't try anything, spook! We saw you change to look like our son, so drop the act! Tell us where Danny is!"

Danny tried to think of something that would get them to at least stop and listen to him for a moment. What could he say?

That he was a halfa? They would just ignore that and say it was some sort of excuse to trick them. He knew how they think.

That it was cosmetics? What kind of excuse was that?!

Hollywood special effects? …how the hell would that make sense!?

His silence was too long, and Maddie and Jack started shooting at him, Maddie with her Ecto pistol, and Jack with his favorite Fenton Bazooka.

Danny had to dive out of the way of the shots as he hid behind one of the tables. "Guys! It's really me!" The blaster fire stopped, and Danny figured that they might be willing to listen to him. He slowly poked his head out, only to yelp as another shot was sent at his head. If it were Jack, he would have believed that his trigger finger itched, but it was from his mother, meaning it was deliberate.

Maddie adjusted the power of her pistol. "Don't think you can trick us with any of your lies! Now tell us where Danny is, Phantom!" She started shooting again, with Jack reloading his bazooka and shooting once more.

Danny held the map close to him as he ducked his head lower, as the top of the table was starting to crack. The energy might not do any damage, but the force of the shot is still something to avoid. He glared to the side as he mentally responded to his mother's questions. 'If you think everything I say is a lie, why would I tell you that I am your son if you aren't gonna believe it anyway?' He was pinned down, and he wondered where his sister was, as she could help ease these two down so they could talk. It was then that he remembered where his sister was, this late at night.

Jazz was out at a friend's house, going over options on what colleges to attend as she got many offers.

Danny gave the wall a flat look. "That figures. So much for my good luck." Giving up on hiding it since it was already out, he transformed into Phantom before he jumped out from behind the table, and then he swerved around all the shots sent at him. He kept his eyes on Maddie, as she was the best shot, choosing to keep Jack in his sight in case he got a lucky shot. He flew around the lab, going under, over, stopping, and shifting to avoid the shots. He wanted to shout and tell them that he was their son, but he couldn't think of anything that would get them to stop long enough. His stopping allowed a shot to hit his chest, and he screamed in pain as he used his left hand to hold the spot that was hit.

He felt the burn from the shot and knew that the level on the pistol was meant to do some serious damage. He moved his hand and was glad that he wasn't bleeding, but he knew that the shot might leave a mark.

He looked up and yelped as he saw the Jack-o-ninetails flying his way. He dove down to get out of the way, and he landed on the ground before he jumped to the side as Maddie came at him with her ghost bo-staff.

Maddie narrowed her eyes at him before she pressed a button on the staff, and an ecto blade formed at the end of both ends of the staff.

Danny's eyes widened as he cried out. "Since when can that thing do that?!" He flew back as Maddie made a swing at him, yet he had to flip forward to avoid the punch Jack threw at the back of his head with the Ghost gauntlets. The flip was so frantic that he ended up hitting the ground with his head and tumbled toward the ghost portal. He lay on the ground in front of the opening and looked up to see his parents making their way toward him. "Guys, seriously, it's me!" He didn't get the chance to say anything else when he saw his mother lift the bow staff. He looked behind him to see the portal and saw that it was his only chance. 'Gonna have to wait until Jazz, Sam, and Tucker show up to help me out here. He picked himself up to a knee before his knees widened as he saw Maddie bring the staff down at him. He jumped back, in time to avoid being hit directly, but the blade sliced through his abdomen before it struck the ground. He winced in pain, which caused him to miss the shot that was sent at him by Jack.

The shot flew past Maddie's shoulder and flew right at Danny. Or rather, at the map in his hand.

The shot hit the back of Danny's hand, and the splashed energy hit the frame of the portal, strong enough to cause it to rip a section apart.

Everything that happened afterward happened in a flash.

Danny was sent twirling into the ghost portal, the energy that started to spark off the map sent blue lightning out, and the portal started to blare an alarm as it started to short-circuit.

Green electricity came off the frame of the portal as blue lightning sparked off the map. Both forms of electricity met each other as the portal sent out another surge of energy, focused on the only physical form that was in the portal.

A scream of agony ripped through the air as Danny felt his body being bombarded with energy from two sources.

Maddie and Jack covered their ears as the scream grew in volume until it started to shake the very building itself.

Maddie opened one of her eyes and saw that the portal was being torn apart as the frame started to fall apart. The control panel sparked as the screens and buttons shattered, the wall cracked, the energy fluctuated, until the portal finally blew, and sent the two adults flying to the other side of the room.

It took a few moments until Jack pushed a table off of him, and Maddie threw off a few cables that tangled over her. They got up from where they were and checked themselves over. Overall, they were alright, apart from a few bruises and a tear on their suits, but the lab was not as lucky.

The walls were riddled with massive cracks, the lab equipment were destroyed, the tables were in pieces, and the portal…..

They walked up to the portal and saw that the place the portal once was, now only had a hole with cables hanging off ripped off wall pieces.

The portal was gone.

Danny continued to scream as his sight was filled with green, blue, white, and black. It felt like the time he first became a Halfa, but this time, it was much worse.

Flashes of different locations surrounded him, but he was too preoccupied with what he was being bombarded with. He tried to force himself to endure it, but his body started to curl in on itself against his will. Sparks of light, similar to his transformation rings, sparked off him, and his suit started to shred into pieces till he was bare.

Danny's scream became groans of pain as his teeth started to grind on each other.

Through all this, he still held onto the map as if it were the most important thing ever.

The map continued to pour energy into Dany until the energy started to shift properties.

Portions of Danny's skin started to shift till they became scales. Scales started growing from the hand that held the map before it snaked up his arm till it reached his shoulder and moved down his back and toward his other shoulder. The scales flowed from his left shoulder to his fingers until it was the same as his right. His nails darkened and became longer until they became claws. As the scales grew down his back, two protrusions appeared from his shoulder blades before they ripped through the skin, and two appendages appeared. The protrusions grew three long, thin digits in the middle of the appendages before a membrane grew in between the digits, revealing the appendages to be wings. The scales continued down his back, and as it reached his lower back, his tail bone began to grow till it became a full, thick, scaly tail that swished back and forth. Two fins appeared at the tip before spikes started to grow up the center as membranes connected them, creating a webbed spine that moved up his back and in between his wings.

The scales continued around his hips before moving down his lower half and covered his legs. His feet started to reshape as one of his toes became absorbed into his foot, the others grew in size and became more U-shaped, and his nails grew into large claws, as pads grew on the bottom.

Danny felt like his body was being ripped apart, and he tried to scream, but his voice had been spent. As he opened his mouth to let out a silent scream, his teeth started to reshape themselves till they became sharp. His tongue started to split at the tip before stretching an inch in.

His white hair started to flash from black and white, his eyes kept shifting from green and blue, with the pupil shifting from rounded to slitted, and the scales he grew started to flash from his skin color to black.

The shifting of colors finally finished, leaving him with black scales, white hair, and aqua green eyes as a roar came from his throat.

A sudden burst of energy from the map sent him flying back and through a wall of energy.

The next thing Danny felt through his groggy mind was the sensation of falling. His first instinct was to catch himself and fly, but his body would not respond to anything he could think of. But that wasn't much, since his whole body felt like it couldn't move at all. He knew he had to catch himself, but he was so drained, another part of him just said to take the fall.

He groaned as he tried to fly once more, but it was futile as he couldn't feel anything but pain.

And so, he crashed, hard, into the ground, leaving a trench till he bounced off a rock and slammed a few times into the dirt. He finally stopped, face-first in the dirt, and he lay there.

After a few minutes, Danny groaned as his face twitched at the sensation of dirt and a stick poking him. He groaned again as he didn't know how many times he was going to end up in this position. 'If I end up face-first in the dirt again after this, today, I am just going to bring a pillow with me everywhere I go and just sleep in the spots I crash in.'

After a few more minutes, he finally opened his eyes, and through blurry vision, he saw he was in a forest. 'Now where am I?' He figured that he would not get anywhere if he stayed on the ground, so he brought his arms up to push himself off the ground, which was much harder than it should have been.

His whole body felt like it was made out of noodles. If it didn't feel like it would wiggle with no restraint, it felt like it could snap at the smallest pressure.

He was halfway off the ground before he fell back to the ground and turned his head to the left. 'Or I could stay on the ground. Ground is nice. Nice, cool ground.' This thought was enticing, didn't have the energy, and his whole body was sensitive. Even feeling the dirt was making his body twitch.

Unfortunately, Danny heard something heading his way, and he was in no condition to protect himself. 'Can't even lie on the ground like the half corpse I am.' With as much willpower as he could muster, he finally pushed himself off the ground and began to hobble away. Yet, after two steps, he realized the map wasn't in his hand, and he began to panic as he needed to make sure that he did not let it fall into anyone's hands. He frantically looked at the ground before he turned around and saw the map clatter, as if something hit it. However, the movement caused a spark of pain to shoot up his spine. He wasn't sure why since it almost felt like it came from something off his body, but he didn't have time as he heard that whatever it was that was heading his way, it was getting closer. 'That's my cue to skidoo.' He reached down to grab the map and froze as he finally got a look at his arm.

He saw that his arm had changed, from having skin to being black scales that ran up the entirety of his arm. His brows furrowed in sheer confusion as he mouthed out "What the…."? He heard a growl very close by, and it snapped Danny out of his shock. He grabbed the map, and he started to hobble as fast as he could, in the opposite direction from which he heard noises coming from. He heard that wherever it was moving faster, and he started to push his legs to go faster.

Danny was swiping bushes aside as he moved deeper into the forest and was panting as his body felt like it had gone through a year's worth of running marathons in the span of thirty seconds. He tried to call upon his ability of intangibility to go through the bushes and trees, but it wasn't working. He tried flight afterward, and he got the same result. And since his body was still sensitive, every brush against a bush, touching the bark of a tree, and the sticks and stones he stepped on caused his body to flinch.

After he ran through a bush and felt the sting on his nether area, he finally looked down and saw that his body had changed. His frantic running now became panicked as he lifted his arm to look at what had happened to it, just as he shoulder bumped a tree, which spun him around. He tried to maintain his direction as he ran backward, and he saw something move to be behind him, and he turned back forward in time to see something move behind him again. He looked over his shoulder and saw that there were a pair of wings flailing behind him.

His eyes became wide in fear as he was about to shout out something. However, instead of words, all he got was a growl. His free hand shot up to his throat as he tried to speak once more. His throat felt extremely sore, and as he tried to say something else, he just got a warble that turned into a small roar. His nerves were going crazy, with the sound of someone or something following him, and the change of his body. His breathing became so frantic that it felt like he couldn't breathe anymore, which was a new sensation for him.

He tripped on a tree root and tumbled onto the ground, and he saw a tail land next to his face. Seeing it, he shot up from the ground and was now spinning around to see the tail and wings that had appeared on his body.

As he was spinning, his wing smacked a branch that flew back and smacked him in the face. That smack caused him to flip backward, falling down a steep rocky slope, crashing several times as he fell down till he hit a rock that bounced him off the slope and landed on moist mud. Still on an adrenaline rush, he opened his eyes and saw a cave in the slope he had just fallen down. He didn't know why, but he got up to his feet and ran into the cave, doing his best to get away from everything.

It was a tall, open cave, and it was not ideal for hiding, but Danny wasn't really thinking clearly at the moment. He ran in, not even realizing that he could see in the pure darkness, and kept bumping into the wall as he got deeper into it. Once he reached the end of the cave, he pressed his back against the wall, wincing at the new sensation of his wings being pressed against, and slid down, bringing his right knee in as he sat on the ground, and he hung his arm on the knee and dropped his head. He tried to catch his breath as it felt like his eyes couldn't focus at all. He looked at his body and saw that he was bleeding from his side, where he had been struck by his mother. He tried to speak once more, but only another warble came out. He furrowed his brows as he looked up at his dangling right hand that had the map in it. '...what did you do to me? Damn it.'

End of Chapter

Author's notes

I didn't come up with the design of Danny's form. The basis of it was taken from the original story, mentioned at the top, with my own twist to it. I might change it, like a bit of an evolution or something, but that is still in the air.

Ok, there are a few things I have thought of that I could do with this story.

I want opinions on whether or not I should do them or not. I might still choose something myself, but you can help push me to lean one way or another.

These are the things I thought of

- Might start in the first HTTYD movie or maybe after the first movie, so the riders have their dragons

- Not sure if he would keep his ghost powers. He might be able to use some of them, but altered for his dragon body.

- Pairing: either Astrid (hiccup can be with Heather), OR Light Fury (since he is a hybrid dragon and can talk to them, and he could have her as his dragon and be her rider) (this was a last-second thought and I am a sucker for pairings. Not many choices in the HTTYD series and the Light fury was seriously just random to me. But I will hear opinions on this.)

- (If someone says Female Toothless…. I got nothing. Damn, fics can really mess with you. And I read a few female toothless fics that I thought were good. And now I just thought of Stormfly, DAMN IT, I GOTTA STOP THINKING!)

- Don't know if any ghosts would show up. They might, just to mess with him.

Anyway, let me know what you think of the chapter and the ideas that are here, ….before more ideas start popping into my head.

Name of the fic might change as I discuss it with FriendlyNeighborhoodimbicile. Since this was inspired by his fic, I figured that his input on some things is appropriate.
