Chapter Text

JJ had agreed to girls night mostly because she figured it would be less exhausting then going home to Will, who would no doubt be mad that she had, once again, traveled for work without giving him enough notice. At least this way she’d have alcohol already in her system.

She couldn’t remember the last time she’d gone on a girls night after a case, usually too eager to go back to Will and avoid another whispered screaming match. This time the screaming match was inevitable and she would take any chance she could to delay the inevitable.

Still, she was reminded of the real reason she hadn’t come for a while, the brunette invading her space, their scents mingling in the air between them, hands brushing when they reached for their drinks at the same time. Emily had spent the evening teasing her, hooking her foot around JJ’s ankle, pulling her legs open and resting a hand on her thigh.

JJ didn’t bother trying to stop Emily, the flirting was, after all, just fun. She would never admit that it was more intoxicating than any alcohol to her, or that every time she said she’d take a rain check she knew she was lying and it felt like her skin crawled with self hatred. How the photos of them were more important to her than any she’d taken of her and Will over the years.

She could get drunk off Emily’s mere presence, their doomed relationship more intoxicating than any alcohol she’d had.
