Chapter Text
Hello! I am Samara. In my last high school, someone accidentally created a weird chemical. I was too lazy to really care and read into it, but I was in the same room the weird chemical was being made in. Hell, even I was right next to the man making it.
Our old school's super weird biology and science classes were combined even though they are two different classes you can sign up for. Biology was a class where you experimented with reactions to stuff—I know, weird class—and science you just had to take. It was a Tuesday. I was sitting next to this dude named Conor; he was clumsy already, always failing projects, and what's even worse, he got moved next to ME. I didn't really say anything; saying shit about others is just rude, and I'm not that type of person, or I think..
The biology class was working with chemicals, and we were doing science books, and randomly his started bubbling blue stuff. A few students passed out, so the whole class started panicking. I covered my mouth. I'm so lucky my science class is on the first floor. I opened the window and got out stepping on the gardening club's flowers. Oh well, the students in that club flushed my research books down the drain.
When I got out of the plants and got on the grass, I saw police and other students out and an ambulance carrying the passed-out students out. A few parents were also picking their students up; the buses were not able to come pick the high schoolers up since they were on their preschoolers' route, so we had to wait in the grass. Only a few students were there, so I sat and started reading one of the books that were from the library about flowers. The title was "The Amazing World of:Flowers." Was that a typo? Oh well…
A group of students with blonde hair, the same bag, the same shirt, and the same goddamn tan. I know, crazy! These were the people in the gardening club who keep picking on me! They came up to me laughing and said, "So you read about flowers? You just want to be different! Loser!" And grabbed my book and ripped it and threw it and walked away. I didn't really know what to do since there were no teachers around and I didn't want to be a snitch. I just curled up into a ball and slept for a while, waiting for the bus to come.
The buses finally came an hour later; it was already 11am, pretty early for me to get home. My mom doesn't get home until really late, like 1am. This makes me feel like we barely even know each other! My dad left when I was born for my mom's friend from college broke her deeply. My dad left her with me; she barely looks at me because all she sees is a little version of Dad, which is sad, but I don't care much..
I get on the bus, and after 20 minutes I'm finally home. I walk in and make myself lunch, microwaveable burritos, and I sit at the dining table eating alone again. Once I'm done, I do the dishes, and then I vacuum, and that's it because I did everything else before school even started. That means I get time for myself. I start drawing cute little flowers. Flowers are so pretty and perfect..
I sometimes wish I were a flower; I would get to just sit there and do nothing, but I guess I wouldn't want bees flying in me, so maybe I don't wish for it, but still, it would be fun to have nothing to do all the time.
I checked the time. I thought only 20 minutes had gone by, but the clock said otherwise.
"It's already 6 pm…?" I mumble as I get up and ready for bed.
And finally, rest in peace and quiet, no school, and no teacher screaming in my ear about 20 missing assignments..
The next morning, as the light comes through the curtain, I take off my covers. I never really described my room, but here I have a bookshelf dedicated to books about flowers. I have it mostly full, but I still need books on bluebeard flowers.. And then on the other side of my room is my bed; it's just an average white bed. I change the sheets out every two weeks or so, and then above my bed is this beautiful picture I made in art class. We used this white clear stuff; I put flowers in it. It's really pretty!
I get out and change, and then I go into the small bathroom and brush my teeth. A few of my teeth are sharp, so a few kids at school call me "shark teeth" to make fun of me. I don't mind it though; sharks look cool anyways. It's better than looking like starved hippos.
"I'm going out! You don't have school because of that weird shit that happened yesterday, right?" My mom shouts from downstairs. I rush downstairs to her. "Umm... yeah..." I say quietly. I don't really talk to her, so I'm not really used to talking to her. "Ok, go microwave something or other for lunch and breakfast. I'll just have to make up for it later with more shifts. Can your school suck any more... anyways, I'll have to go find a different school for you to attend. I can't have you going here anymore…" my mom says back, and before I can even say anything, she walks out for work.
I sigh and sit down for reading and do my—wait, there's no homework for me to do. I'll just go on my phone and scroll. Then I go upstairs and go under my pillow. I have to hide my phone; I'm scared my mom will come in and go through it while I'm sleeping. She can't if it's under my head. I get on tiktik and go scroll. This is fun.
A few hours have passed, and I haven't even noticed! I rush to go hide my phone and pretend I'm sleeping, as I can hear my mom's car pulling through the driveway. I can hear the front door opening and then walking up to my room and then my door opening.
"Samara…? You up…?"
I still pretend to be sleeping. I could hear her sigh and sit down next to me on the bed. She smells like perfume, and then she seems to move my hair out of my face.
"You told me when you were 12 you hated when your hair was in your face… I would come home and you would always have your hair up… but today you seemed to have kept it down..."
She feels my hair, putting her hand through it.
"Well, I got good news: I got a new job, and I found you a better school… They really wanted you to go to their school too, and I'll be home to help you with that schoolwork."
She kissed my forehead and left. Once I heard the door lock, I got up. A new school?! This is insane! I wonder how this new school will be or if the people are nice. Mean? Friendly maybe? Or is everyone a weirdo and a jerk who collects dead birds and puts them in a jar?! I shouldn't panic; it's probably not that bad.
