Chapter Text
It’s not like Bucky was purposefully hiding the fact he was transgender from Sam. It just never came up.
Sure, he might be a little scared of what Sam will think of him. So many people in his past shoved him away the moment they learned he was different, but Sam was different. Sam wouldn’t push him away, at least he hopes.
Which leads to his current predicament.
A deep gash going from the inside of his top left thigh and up to his hip. A wound he can’t properly clean on his own. His healing factor will close the wound but if it isn’t cleaned properly the debris will be trapped in his skin and he doesn’t want to deal with picking debris out of his skin as they slowly surface nor the infection they will bring.
In perfect timing a steaming Sam walks in from the shower room with a towel over his shoulder. It’s now or never.
“Can you help me out before you leave?” Bucky asks.
“Asking for help? You’re not dying are you?” That stupid grin comes over Sam’s face and my god if this man doesn’t put on more clothes.
“I can’t reach the whole cut.” Bucky deadpans knowing damn well Sam can tell.
“Sure, you just want my help.” The man crouched down in front of him. “Damn, they got you good.” He speaks, grabbing the gauze and wiping at the blood. “You’re lucky your dick didn’t get cut off.” Bucky huffs a laugh.
Sam lifts Bucky’s boxers up further. He watches as the man pauses as the boxers go flat instead of bulging.
His stomach fills with dread when Sam doesn’t say anything. Instead going back to cleaning the wound.
Sam was a good man. He wouldn’t leave him here with a wound he couldn’t clean on his own, but he might never speak to him again.
Sam would push him away with this realization. He wouldn’t want to be around and Bucky would never get to see Delacroix again, never get to see Sarah or the boys. What if he shared it with them? What if they all turn away from him?
“This is pretty deep, you want stitches?” Bucky shakes his head.
“No.” He whispers. Suddenly insecure. He needs Sam to finish so he can put his pants on and go home. He shouldn’t have asked for help. He should’ve just dealt with it himself so he and Sam could stay friends.
“Do you need a break?” Sam’s voice is clear in all of the fog. “Come back to this in a few minutes?”
“I just want it finished.” He admits making Sam nod.
“Alright, I’m going to spray the cut with saline and put a few butterfly bandages on it.” The saline is cold against his skin and it stings slightly. Not anything to fuss over but it’s uncomfortable.
Sam wipes the area with a gauze pad and Bucky jumps as Sam’s hands are pulling his boxers up further.
“Sorry, I just need more skin so the bandages stick.” Bucky all but holds his breath as Sam sticks the bandages to him.
“Almost done.” Sam’s hands are soft and warm as he places the bandages. “Good as new.” Sam stands and Bucky is quick to grab his pants and pull them back on. “You not going to shower?” Bucky shakes his head.
“I’m going to shower when I get home. I just- I’ll shower when I get home.”
“Ok. I’ll send you the debrief info.”
“Thanks.” He mutters, quickly grabbing his things. He wants out of this room and building and into his own bed.
“Bucky, call me if you need anything.” With that Bucky rushes out of the room.
