Good morning,
Ilya and I have something to admit. Over the years, we have both anonymously posted to the website Reddit seeking relationship advice. Early in our relationship, we created aliases “Jane” and “Lily” to protect our reputations as straight rivals. We used these aliases again for these posts, and for the most part, this has protected our identities.

We both assumed nobody would remember our posts, but unfortunately, they’ve gained a lot of traction online and have developed a fan following. The fandom is named “Janebear” and can be found across a range of social media websites.
We both apologise for any additional work or PR complications our actions may cause for you and the team. These posts were written during a time we both felt very isolated due to the secrecy of our relationship, and so we sought out support in the only way we thought we could.
We have kept our social media presence private for obvious reasons, but Ilya and I have discussed the topic in depth, and we no longer wish to hide this side of our relationship.
As you are aware, Ilya and I have avoided publicly sharing details of our relationship since we were outed. Our online presence as Jane and Lily has been the primary reason for this. Some internet users have already begun to draw comparisons between our relationship and Janebear since we were outed (see documents attached), and because we shared so much of our relationship in those posts, there is very little we can say about ourselves without worrying that it will be what exposes our identities. We aren’t interested in being another scandal, but being afraid every time we see our names trending or in the papers isn’t any better.
Ilya and I have spent too long afraid to talk about our relationship, and we’re done. It’s exhausting, and we would rather take the backlash of whatever people think about history or the crap we said online than do this any longer.
We want to share this on our own terms this time.

Okay, so,
You both revealed A LOT about your relationship and careers on these posts. Have you really been seeing eachother since 2010? That’s…wow.
The main areas of concern from a PR standpoint would be any pushback from the league over criticisms made in these posts. As you posted anonymously and never outright criticized anyone identifiable, doubt there would be a case for defamation or breach of contract. I would like to confirm this with Jasmine from legal, if you would be alright with me sharing this with her.
While I don’t think there are grounds for a legal issue, we should anticipate pushback from the league especially considering previous issues you have had with higher-ups, and the allegations of discrimination by the Metros implied by your post.
It’s honestly a miracle this hasn’t blown up in our faces yet. Thankfully, right now, you are only one of the popular theories around Janebears identity, thanks to Miss Puerto Rico and Miss Argentina coming out as a married couple last year. They have denied being responsible for the posts, but this hasn’t stopped many fans from believing it’s them anyway.
I agree that taking control of this narrative is the best path, and I would be happy to help you do this on your own terms this time.
What did you have in mind? The way I see it, we have two options. We could either hard-launch by releasing a statement or video confirming your identities, or we could soft-launch by sharing select pieces of information that would inadvertently confirm the theory. People are less shocked or interested in something the 10th time it’s “confirmed,” and it would hopefully allow us to avoid another media frenzy.

NHL All-Star Shane Hollander shares about being in denial about being gay, his history with women, and his queer identity.
Speaking to PinkNews in an exclusive interview following a record- breaking first season with the Ottawa Centaurs, Hollander shares that he is proud to be a gay man, but has not always felt that way.
“I never had a problem with anyone's queerness, but my own. I had a very clear picture of the life and career I wanted, and being gay was not a part of it.”
“So, I didn’t let myself consider being gay as a real option. Instead, I clung onto the idea that I would find the right woman one day.”
Hollander went on to share how thankful he is to his ex-girlfriend, the star of X-Squad: Rise Again, and the Patriot Games, Rose Landry.
“Rose is one of my favourite people on this earth. Dating her is what made me face it that there will never be a ‘right woman’ for me, because if I were capable of being happy with a woman, it would have been her. Rose was actually the one who sat me down and asked if I might be gay. She was really kind about it, and I am forever thankful for her.”
Hollander and Rose Landry split in early 2017, after a short-lived public relationship. The stars have been photographed together numerous times since, and Rose Landry has been outspoken about her support for her ex-boyfriend and his Husband, Captain Ilya Rozanov, and even attended their wedding in 2021.
Hollander added, “I am proud to be gay, and I am proud to be a part of the growing community of openly queer NHL players. I hope the next generation of players don’t feel like they have to choose between their careers and their identities the way I did.”

I couldn't remember if we knew what music Dykstra played specifically, just that Ilya said it was terrible so I decided to go for a bit of a self roast and I made him listen to Midwest emo, one of my favourite genres, which I am sure Ilya and many others would fuckin hate. I chose the song "The Feud" by the front bottoms specifically because it reminds me of Shane's relationship with his sexuality.
Bood's song "Don't stop believng" is, of course, inspired by how long he stuck it out with the centaurs when everyone gave up on them.Thanks for reading!

I’m an autistic woman who didn’t get diagnosed until I sought it out myself in adulthood, and so I’ve always related deeply with the fanon character of Jane.
Here are some of my personal headcanons that are definitely not just me projecting on her.
- Jane goes non-verbal when stressed. She can push through, but it takes effort like speaking a language you’re only half-fluent in.
- Jane hates perfume. She’s done a lot of perfume ads, and she always gets really overstumulated afterwards. She makes Lily open a window whenever she puts it on.
- Her parents also have undiagnosed autism, and share a lot of traits, so they just assumed…

When I was seventeen, I met a man with beautiful freckles named Shane Hollander.
When we were nineteen, I saved our contacts as “Lily” and “Jane,” so nobody would know what we were to each other.
When I was twenty-five, I posted to Reddit and talked about our relationship for the first time, using the names I made to keep us a secret. I let you assume Jane is a woman, same as whenever my friends teased me about texts from ‘Jane.’ I am not sorry for this because it protected me, but more importantly, it protected Shane.
For a long time, we did not talk to anyone about our relationship; we did not even really talk to each other about it. These Reddit posts were supposed to be like screaming into the void. When I wrote the first post, I told myself I would not even check the replies. I had never had good experience with people on the internet, so I assumed if I got any replies, it would be from unhelpful assholes like I am used to hearing from.
Most of you were not assholes. You were helpful and reminded me of talking to my best friend. You made fun of me and called me a dumbass, and then you gave me good advice, listened as I complained about everything fucked in my life, and helped me be brave when I had spent so long being afraid.
So, thank you, internet. I am sorry, I am not the pretty pageant queen you imagined, but not that sorry because I am very happy with the life I have now.

The names Lily and Jane began as a lie, a way to hide who we are, and I hated it. The plan worked; my teammates caught me texting “Lily” and assumed she was some woman I was sleeping with. It never felt like success; it felt like a lie. So, I would usually panic and say I didn’t know what they were talking about, because I hated pretending to be something I’m not. It all just made me even more aware that I was not like my straight teammates,
Posting to Reddit, as Jane did not feel like that. Instead, I found myself in a space where queerness wasn’t a punchline, or even novelty, for the first time in my life. I could talk openly about my partner, and apart from some dumb jokes, nobody blinked at the idea of us being gay, even if you didn’t know the specifics of my sexuality.
My husband, Ilya, is still saved in my phone as Lily, and I don’t think that’s ever going to change. Jane and Lily began as a way to hide who we are, and to feed the idea that we are just as straight as everyone else we knew. Instead, thanks to these posts and the community of queer people who took our stories to heart, Jane and Lily became something really fucking gay in their own right, and I think that’s kind of beautiful.
I am sorry if anyone is disappointed to learn we are not who you thought we were, but I am thankful for you and your support nonetheless.
