Summary:

Buck confronts Bobby after weeks of silence post-lawsuit

Chapter Text

“I was protecting you”

“I’M NOT YOURS TO PROTECT!" Buck shouted drawing the attention of the remaining firefighters around the firehouse. He lowered his voice slightly before carrying on "You are NOT my father. You’re my captain. And you have to treat me the same way you treated Chim after he got stabbed; twice. The same way Hen was fine when she was cleared after the ambulance accident. And the same way you’re treating Eddie right now when he’s out there cage fighting but somehow that’s okay with just a stern lecture? Somehow he’s not a fucking liability but I was? Why do they get to come back and I don’t, why am I not enough even after I'm cleared?”

Bobby’s mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water his eyes shining with unshed tears.

Buck took a step back his eyes watering as well as the anger bled out of him. He sniffled “You know…” his voice cracking against his will “…out of everyone, you know that I have nothing outside of this firehouse. This was my first home and you… you took it away from me. And now everyone I love… my own sister… she- they won’t even talk to me because you pushed me to fight for something I shouldn’t have had to fight for to begin with. I didn’t have anything… I was alone and I just- I wanted my life back.” He sniffled again wiping at his face harshly.

Bobby wipes his own tear away before he opens his mouth but Buck shakes his head to stop him

“It’s not fair. It’s not fair and you know it. Doesn’t matter how many excuses you come up with to help you sleep at night. But you’re in the wrong and I’m the one suffering for it.”

“Buck-“ Bobby finally got out, his voice was rough and he cleared his throat to hold back the emotions clawing their way up his throat “listen-“

Buck interrupted again. Taking another step back, he cleared his throat “No. Look I’m clearly not wanted here and it’s not working me being man behind and doing just chores every shift, I didn’t agree to that. You said I’d regret coming back and congrats, I do. You made me hate the first place I felt safe. So just approve the transfer forms so I can move on with my life. It’s literally the very least you could do.”

He pushed the papers further on the table towards Bobby before he turned around and made his way down the loft stairs only to see Hen, Eddie, Chim and a few other firefighters standing there staring at him wide eyed as if they haven't all been treating him like shit for the last three weeks. He scoffs and rushes out before giving them another moment.
