Work Text:
The pain was never-ending. The paralysis, thankfully was not. Both of them required help for him to move, neve3r mind functioning at anything approaching a useful level.
So, Magus Franhels had mobility aids to help him move around. a magickal chair for the paralysis and his mage staff doing double duty to help him walk with his chronic pain.
His nature could not allow him to leave them alone. As plain things with nothing more than their form to their name. No, he loved beautifully decorated things, and if he had to use these items, he would have them be a part of his life in more than mere utility.
He bade his apprentice, Samwis, to bring him paints and tools for carving. When he had done so, with his usual gentle humor and thorough and careful attention to duty and detail alike, Franheis showed him how to enchant the paint and put magick into the carvings, so that when he was done, not only were the chair and his staff beautiful and now uniquely his, but they were also potent magickal devices.
Magus Franheis no longer dreaded the days when the paralysis forced him to use the chair, the arms coming across his body to keep him safely within it as it walked him to wherever he needed to go. Nor did he object to the times when his staff had to be more than just a conveyance for his magickal power, but had to help him convey himself as well.
For nothing could bother him as it had when he had such lovely decorated mobility aids to assist him. Truly, he regarded his decision as one of his better ones in a long magickal career.
And his apprentice was certainly inclined to agree. His master was a good sort, in general, not like some who yelled at and beat their apprentices whenever they felt in the mood - which was often.
But even so, the Magus’ moods had been dark at times, low and foul with frustration and regret.
But now, those times came far less often. When they started to near, Franheis would look at his chair and his staff and smile, the low mood draining away into the Ether, leaving only joyous energy and magick behind.
To the benefit of all.
