And then he giggled

Summary:

Frank gets sick while on shift and makes it everyone else's problem...

Work Text:

The fever hit hot and fast with limited warning that came in the form of a dull headache and a general sense of fatigue. One moment Frank was fine, for the most part, and then the next he was sweating and swaying on his feet, eyes glassy and feeling way too cold for how much he had been running around.

"Wow," Parker observed dryly when she saw Frank walk out of a patient's room. "You look like shit."

Frank opened his mouth to retort, but instead, all that came was an "okay, Parker."

Parker leaned back, watching Frank with wide eyes. "Shen, get over here," Parker called over her shoulder at Shen, who was sipping his Dunkin' and working on charts, before she turned her attention back to Frank, who was once again swaying.

"Hey, what's-oh man, you look awful." Shen greeted the pair.

"That's what Parker says." Frank nodded, no fight left in the man.

"Fuck." Shen breathed out, looking at Parker, who gave a sharp nod. "Right, lets go take a seat, Frank. Right this way." Shen guided Frank to an empty room, settling on the bed and did his best to ignore the way the other man was pouting. "That's it, just sit down. Jesus."

Shen withdrew his hand from Frank's forehead. "Burning up. Rock, paper, scissors on whose telling, Jack."

Parker smirked, "Two out of three?"

"Two out of nothing." Jack interrupted the pair, pulling back the curtain of the room with a look of exasperation at his junior attending. "...why is Langdon on a bed?"

Neither Parker or Shen got a chance to answer before Frank decided to speak up. "Oh, thank fuck," he exhaled with a loopy smile, "Jack, it's cold." He was pouting again, earning a snort from Shen and several confused blinks from Jack. "He's my favourite," he confided to Parker, "...don't tell Robby."

"Oh, I'm so telling Robby." Jack made his way to Frank with a concerned expression. "What's going on?"

"Fever." Shen offered. "Was about to tell you..."

Jack's lips twisted in a frown, feeling Frank's head. "After rock paper scissors?"

"You should do the lip test." Frank hummed seriously, getting a look from the three other doctors. "The lips are more sensitive than hands, making them more accurate than hands, and who doesn't love a forehead kiss?"

Parker wheezed, and Jack froze in surprise.

"Sorry, that's not going to happen." Shen cut in, in open amusement. "We're going to use a thermometer, and then we're going to take some tests and then call someone to come pick you up."

Frank made a discontented noise but nodded with a sigh. "Probably Flu A, it's hitting Tanner and Penny's pre-school pretty bad."

"Good to know." Jack nodded, filing that information away for later. Frank beamed at the praise. "Now, can you do the kiss test?"

Jack inhaled deeply. "No."

"Can you call Robby?" Frank turned his attention to Parker and Ellis. "He's my emergency contact...and he would do the kiss test." He threw in spitefully, glaring at Jack, who was doing his best not to look unaffected and failing to know that Parker and Shen would tease him about it later.

"Absolutely," Parker, one needs a kiss test."

"You laugh, but it works." Frank reasoned. "Tanner and Penny would agree."

"Uh huh," Jack rolled his eyes ingoring the little flutter in his chest at the statement. "Now lie back and let us get your temp and ox, and we'll go from there."

"Fine...but I won't forget this," he warned, with another glare at jack who smirked.

"Sure, kid. You two, shoo and send in Donnie."

"Do you want us to warn him, Frank's a stage one clinger or..." Shen teased despite the dark muttering under his boss's breath. A temperature check and nose swab later, Donnie walked, Victoira in tow.

"Jack."

"Hey, just got a swab, fever of 103.2, Pulse ox of 95%, start him on Tamiflu and an IV of normal saline."

Victoria nodded. "Jack won't give me a kiss test." Frank muttered, earning a soft 'Jesus Christ' from Jack. Victoria's eyes widened. "Um...what?"

Meanwhile, Donni just sighed, shaking his head in disbelief at Jack. "That's just rude. The lips are way more effective at telling a temperature than hands."

"And who doesn't want a forehead kiss?" Frank batted his lashes at Jack. Victoria's hand inched upwards, getting a raised eyebrow from Jack. 'You're my new favourite, now get to work." Jack was just slipping out of the room when Frank's voice floated out behind him. "Fuck, he's hot."

Colour flooded Jack's cheeks. "Fuck." He scrubbed a hand over his face and pulled out his phone to call Robby, who picked up at the first ring.

"Hey, babe, I'm already on my way."

"Good, get here fast, he's causing chaos."

"Well, maybe if you just gave him a damn kiss." Robby shot back quickly, "making me do all the work as usual."

Pettiness washed over Jack "He told Parker and Shen I was his favourite." He was still smirking when Robby began to protest, hanging up with a "Love you" not giving his husband a chance to respond.
