Chapter Text
confidence personified goes by the name of min yoongi.
jung hoseok confirms this when she first saw the older (yet smaller) girl in her shiny satin letterman jacket that is too big for her small frame, jeans ripped that shows off glimpses of her milky thighs, and of course, a choker. her mint hair falls past her shoulders, and is now currently done in two space buns, and she looks like the poster definition of a tumblr baddie.
hoseok wanted to be her so bad.
the older girl is infamous — cross her and her words will leave a chink in your armor and a dent in your reputation. she's woke, socially woke, and a proud feminist. straightforwardly calls you out when needed. will fight for what she thinks is right. Is not afraid of what anything thinks of her. basically everything hoseok wishes to be.
this is all making hoseok sound like a loser.
not that she is, anyway.
hoseok takes pride in being a social butterfly. everyone deems her as the girl who can never be seen frowning. she would high-five a random person in the hallway, and just bust out a dance move in public. shameless, hoseok knows. that's what she is, anyway.
and it makes her wonder... does yoongi know her?
it's a thought that randomly fleeted through her mind. and hoseok is embarrassed of herself for thinking such thought. it's stupid. she's stupid. she can't explain it but it's stupid.
she might as well wave a banner right in front of yoongi that says, "notice me senpai!", or sunbae-nim, in her case.
hoseok is done with her dance practice, all tired limbs and sweat when she sees yoongi arguing with the guidance counselor.
"sir, not to be impolite but i can wear what i want," hoseok overhears yoongi say. "people shouldn't use how revealing someone's clothing is as a basis whether they'll respect them or not. that's just disgusting."
hoseok lets her eyes roam at what yoongi is wearing. the older girl is in an off-shoulder crop top that shows off the expanse of her pale collarbones and black skinny jeans that clung tightly to her slender limbs. a stunner, that's what Min Yoongi is.
hoseok is, without a doubt, stunned.
"miss min," the guidance officer starts calmly. "teenagers like you are the reason why this generation is getting rebellious. now, don't blame me when someone dangerous hits on you and does something terrible; you could've worn other clothes — clothes that are actually appropriate."
hoseok knows yoongi is seething. her fists are clenched, and her stance is rigid. "that's the point! you, sir, are just too close-minded to understand. why would you blame me and not the disgusting person who'll do something to me? why would you blame the victim when all they did was wear something that they want?"
"miss min—"
yoongi abruptly cuts him off. "people like you are the ones who should be educated." yoongi storms off, but not before turning back and saying, "and sir? if you base your level of respect by the level of how conservative someone's clothing is, then you've never respected them at all."
hoseok watches yoongi saunter her way with eyes shining and mouth ajar. yoongi locks gaze with her, but the older's face is hard and expressionless. she passes by hoseok, and her presence itself makes the younger girl feel intimidated yet she feels proud. oddly proud, because, wow, min yoongi is just confidence goals.
"hobi-unnie," taehyung waves her hand in front of hoseok's face. "what are you staring at?"
"not what," jimin observes. "who."
hoseok whips her head at her two younger friends. "i'm not staring at her!" she exclaims a little too loudly, and everyone nearby their table looks at them. that's when she realized that maybe she had been too obvious. hoseok purses her lips into an awkward smile, before glaring at the duo.
"oh, would you look at that." taehyung rests her chin upon her hand, tilting her head with a menacing smirk on her face. "it's a her."
jimin smiles innocently, her cheeks bunched up and her eyes turning into adorable slits. "hobi-unnie, were you staring at..." she pauses, before whispering, "min yoongi?"
hoseok rolls her eyes before popping a french fry into her mouth, purposely avoiding the question. she didn't even notice that she was staring at yoongi. all she remembers is she had just glanced at the senior, and watched her neutral expression morph into a smile, a gummy smile when kim namjoon accidentally elbowed a glass of water.
alright, so hoseok was totally staring. alright.
"though I can't blame you, unnie," taehyung sighs. "they're quite the popular bunch."
hoseok glances once again at Yoongi's table. she's sitting with her friends who are as equally as intimidating as her. kim namjoon is a rare beauty, with her silver hair falling past her jawline and half of her head shaved. she's superb at slam poetry, and her themes range from social issues to philosophical stuff. kim seokjin, on the other hand, is a goddess, as people would say. her singing voice is as beautiful as her visuals, and she's viewed as everyone's idea of a perfect girl.
hoseok's thoughts are cut off by jimin's shrill voice. "kook-ah, over here!" the girl hollers, calling jungkook to sit by their table.
"so, what did I miss?" jungkook asks once she's sat at their table. the freshman takes a huge bite of her vegetable sandwich, and there's lettuce still hanging by her lips but she remains unperturbed.
"have some manners, kook." taehyung reprimands. "anyways, our hobi-unnie here has a teensy crush on someone!"
a crush?
hoseok is about to deny when jimin suddenly whisper-shouts, "it's min yoongi!" excitedly. hoseok slaps her palm across her forehead.
"i don't have a crush on her!" hoseok interrupts before taehyung squeals.
"why not?" Jungkook asks, her mouth full with food. "yoongi-unnie is nice."
hold up. yoongi-unnie?
hoseok looks at jungkook straight in the eye. "yah, jeon jungkook, since when were you and min yoongi close?"
jungkook swallows her food. "yoongi-unnie is my maths tutor. she's nice. and lazy. but very cool." she takes a bite of her sandwich. "she taught me how to braid my hair."
hoseok feels something that she can't explain in her gut. she's partly... jealous. how come jungkook and yoongi have interacted more than once while hoseok can only stare at the senior?
and why does it bother hoseok so much?
"what is happening to me," hoseok mutters aloud.
"hmm?" jimin raises an eyebrow at her. "you were saying?"
"nothing," hoseok sighs. "just. nothing."
it's totally not nothing.
hoseok sees min yoongi again.
this time, a grubby man is towering over yoongi. the situation is just fishy, hoseok observes. the way the man looks at yoongi is rather suspicious, while the girl is glaring daggers at him. they seem to be just talking.
until the man grabs yoongi's thin wrists and pins her small body to the wall.
while yoongi is indeed, a pro at verbal fights, hoseok doubts she can take him on.
so hoseok runs, runs toward the scene and hurriedly grabs the man's wrist, twisting it behind his back and kneeing him in the crotch. he screams in agony before trying to grab hoseok but the girl is quick to move, her lithe body bending to dodge the man's attacks.
being a dancer really does pay off.
hoseok can hear yoongi's ragged breathing, and that just makes the girl throw a punch straight to the guy's jaw. he stumbles, before completely hitting the ground.
hoseok quickly takes yoongi's hand and they both run, but not before hearing the man screaming inappropriate things at them. yoongi visibly shudders.
once they get into a safe place, hoseok faces the older girl and she can't help the words that bubble out her mouth, her voice loud with worry. "w-why — w-what was that?! Why was he onto you like that? w-what if you got hurt, jesus—"
yoongi breathes in. breathes out. huffs. "are you blaming me?"
"no!" the younger exclaims, before letting herself calm down a little. "i'm not blaming you. it's just that... who will save you when that happens again? no offense but, you don't seem like the type to do good in a fight — a physical fight, that is."
yoongi glares at the ground. shifts her weight from one foot to another and bristles. suddenly, she straightens her back and brings her gaze to hoseok, eyes showing confidence. and gratitude. "i wouldn't have to worry, you'll save me, right?"
the older then spins her heel and walks away, leaving hoseok stunned once again.
bit this time, her heart is thumping wildly in her chest, and her face feels incredibly warm.
she might just like yoongi. a tiny bit.
and yoongi doesn't even know her name.
hoseok is stressed.
and when she's stressed, she always dances. so that's what she's doing right now.
she lets her body move to the beat, popping and locking every now and then, and of course, the occasional hip glides. it's a good thing that she has access to the school's dance studio, but it's only because she's the dance troupe's leader-slash-choreographer. right now, she's freestyling, experimenting on dance moves so she can clear her mind from some stuff.
stuff being a certain girl called min yoongi.
when hoseok realized she kind of really likes the older girl, she's not really that surprised. hoseok has long ago known that she likes girls a tad bit more than boys. she had hooked up with a few of them, had girlfriends and fooled around.
it's just that min yoongi is so out of reach.
so when she starts to think about min yoongi with her pale skin and plush lips and slim thighs, she feels a little bit guilty. when she starts to think of pressing kisses to yoongi's nape and leaving marks in the expanse between her neck and shoulder, she feels so fucking guilty.
tiny crush, my ass.
she sighs before changing the music into something more explosive. something more dynamic. and she's dancing again, more aggressive but frustration is seeping into her mind and before she knows it, she's thrown her snapback onto the floor.
"woah." hoseok whips her head to the sound of the voice, only to see her. The reason why hoseok's life has gone topsy-turvy.
"how long have you been watching, sunbae-nim?" hoseok asks breathlessly, reaching down for her water bottle.
"not long," yoongi answers, walking over to where hoseok is. "but long enough."
hoseok hums, before downing the water in her bottle dry. she can feel the older's gaze at her, and it is honestly unnerving.
"so, can i help you with something, yoongi... sunbae-nim?" she inquires, the honorific quite delayed.
yoongi smirks at her. "you can call me unnie, jung hoseok."
hoseok tried to keep her face neutral (and she's visibly failing), but the thought of yoongi knowing her (and letting hoseok call her unnie) is just so surreal.
"so," she repeats once again. "can i help you with something, yoongi-unnie?"
yoongi takes one step towards her. and another one. and another one. and another one, until their bodies are pressed together, and they're just too close, too close for comfort. their height difference has become more prominent, and hoseok can only stare at the older's feline eyes. down to her cute button nose. and her flushed cheeks. down to her soft-looking pink lips.
it takes all of hoseok's willpower to not claim the older's lips right at this moment.
hoseok shakes the thought off, and when yoongi purposely wets her lips, her tongue suddenly peeking out, hoseok just had to look away. she lowers her gaze, but it's possibly the worst move she's done, because the older is wearing another off-shoulder top and her collarbones are on full display. and the choker that she's wearing? fuck.
"say," yoongi says, her voice barely above a whisper. hoseok can feel the older's breath on her chin.
"would you like to get coffee with me?"
