On Grief

Summary:

To any One Piece fan out there, inspired by @ishipstuffff on Tumblr

Work Text:

Not in vain have your tears fallen

if you cried from bereavement

when someone passed on.

Your tears were not for them,

not destined to them.

They were from you out of your love for them.

You cried from love interrupted, from which came the pain.

Estrangement might be less painful

when you know you will find each other again,

when you have hope for that future meeting.

But the pain remains from brutally interrupted love all the same.

When you shut that door in your heart

to hide painful strands of love there was torn from you,

you get get closure, detachment, a break from suffering,

but you know that underneath lies but pain.

So rejoice. Whether or not you managed to

weld the gaps in your chest with molten metal,

whether or not you left the wound open,

hidden or for all to see.

Rejoice when a miracle happens.

Rejoice when the door is forced open and pried from its hinges.

What you mourned is the love you could not give.

Here even the tomb’s doors will be broken and thrown down.

So, if you find you have moved on, take a moment to acknowledge the conclusion.

Maybe shed some new tears as you look into the open door,

and one by one tie up loose ends

of the bonds that once linked you and were ripped – broken.

The love you felt was real whether or not its source has dried up from your end.

The pain you felt was real, and your tears came from there.

So come to the celebratory banquet and raise a drink in victory or remembrance.

Enjoy the healing respite given to you.

Nothing is impossible when you work for your miracles :

the One Piece world is of hope, not despair.

Dawn will rise.

Here, at least, the promise will be kept :

You will meet again.
