Eye Contact

Summary:

In which a certain thrill-seeking combatant catches your eye; he notices.

Notes:

Reader is Lisa's assistant just for some context. (Not too relevant though)

And just a reminder: this was written before Lohen's actual release.

Originally posted to my drabbles collection but I reposted this since I'm making a little series out of this (or at least that's the plan anyway)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Standing idle, you watched training dummy after training dummy get desecrated; you had completely forgotten the task at hand. However, the destruction before you wasn't really what caught your eye.

A familiar head of mint green hair was the sole captivator of your attention.

Lohen's movements appeared to be erratic to the average viewer, but you had watched him train enough times to notice a rhythm to it all.

Lohen was graceful just as he was lethal.

You couldn't help but find him attractive when he was in his element. There was something about him that you couldn't look away from. You wish you could see him truly in action, but with your station as Lisa's assistant, you were not suited to being out on the frontlines at all.

Before you could stop yourself, you sighed. Loudly.

That's when a pair of dull eyes directed themselves towards you.

"Why are you always staring at me? Looking for a fight, huh?"

Your eyes widened. Shaken from your thoughts, you nearly dropped the books you had clutched to your chest. Embarrassed at being caught, your face flushed immediately.

You stumbled over your words, trying to save yourself. "I- No, that's not it!"

"Then why?" Lohen's eyes pierced your very soul. It felt like he could see right through you.

You bit your lip nervously. What were you supposed to say? Admit to being secretly in love with him?

You'd rather jump off Starsnatch Cliff.

Getting impatient at your lack of a response, Lohen prompted you again. "Answer me."

"I was just zoning out! You just happened to be in my line of sight."

You mentally applauded yourself. Excellent excuse.

Lohen looked unimpressed. "I asked about why you're staring at me all the time. Not just this once. You think I wouldn't notice?"

Ah. There goes that plan out the window.

You glanced around anxiously, looking at anywhere but Lohen. Your gaze settled on the ground beneath your feet, as if that would make everything go away. With nothing left up your sleeve, you resorted to praying frantically.

Oh Barbatos, please save me!

You were never a believer, but if it meant getting out of this, you would become the most devout follower ever.

You vaguely heard footsteps, but you were too lost in your spiral of mortification to pay them any mind.

"Look at me."

You jumped, dropping your books in the process. You were face to face with Lohen now. When did he get so close?

You didn't think it was possible, but he leaned in even closer, your noses almost brushing now. You held your breath. Was he about to do what you think he was about to do?

Lohen smirked. "How cute."

And then he pulled away, leaving you with a feeling of heavy disappointment.

"You should get back to work, little librarian. Don't want Lisa to catch you slacking off now, would we?"

And with that Lohen sauntered off, leaving you utterly frazzled.
