The Worst Kept Secret

Summary:

Post 8x13.

Tim watches Lucy go and doesn’t notice Angela appear next to him again and this time she grabs Lucy’s glass from his hand and takes a sip of it much to Tim’s protest.

“Holy shit is Lucy pregnant?” Angela all but yells and the entire room goes silent immediately.

Figures now Rodge puts away his dumb ass guitar.

“For fucks sake Angela.” Tim growls as he grabs the glass for her his eyes already searching for Lucy in the room much like everyone else.

Lucy stands by the snack bar brownie in one hand and cupcake on a plate in the other, her brown eyes wide and and her mouth full looking like a deer in the headlights.

Their eyes meet and Tim nods at her giving her the choice to decide, not that they can really come back from this.

----

aka In which Lucy is pregnant and she and Tim are transparent as hell and Angela clocks them immediately.

Notes:

This is a silly little thing that we were all discussing once we saw Lucy was not drinking wine at the end of 8x13.

Take it with a grain of salt. I dont actually think she's pregnant but this was fun.

This ened up being sickenly sweet and I am now contemplating writing Lucy's POV and how she suspected and found out. I'm not too sure.

Work Text:

The drive home from work is quiet. Lucy seemingly more preoccupied than normal.

He noticed it all day, the way she would get lost in her own thoughts, and then have to pull herself back to the task at hand.

It’s been a few months since the incident with Martin and she’s bounced back far quicker than he gave her credit for.

Which he knows is more about him than her, but she’s been a bit different the last few days and he can’t seem to put his finger on what it could be. Being distracted on the job is not normal for her, but he does know that if it was something important she would have brought it up already.

He doesn’t push of course, knowing she will come to him when she is ready, but he is slightly concerned.

Even more so when Seth Ridley unceremoniously showed up at the station.

Neither of them have brought up their feelings with regards to his reappearance. Neither of them surprised either, he had mentioned to her briefly when she got back from Baja about Miles and Seth’s asinine decision to stake out a suspect without any authority. They both had wondered briefly if Seth was going to come back to ask for forgiveness.

He guessed today was the day.

Now in the comfort of their truck, Tim wonders what's truly on her mind, he reaches over to her and gently squeezes her knee startling her to say the least at testament to how distracted she truly is. “You okay?”

“Is it wrong that I feel bad for him?” Lucy voices softly. “I know what he did was wrong. We almost lost our lives, not to mention the countless other lies he’s fed me over those 4 months.”

“You wouldn’t be you if you didn’t have some compassion for him,” Tim says softly as he reaches over and squeezes her fingers. “You are a compassionate and forgiving person, as someone who was on the receiving end of said forgiveness I am very grateful for that side of you.”

Lucy huffs lightly at his words, sending a small smile, “you think I’m giving him too much credit?”

“Probably,” Tim says truthfully. “Look, I don’t need to tell you we have a dangerous job. You know better than most how important it is to trust your partner in the field. It’s a matter of life and death and if officers can’t trust Seth it could cost either him or someone else’s life. He is too much of a liability. I am sure he is trying to do better and maybe he has, but this is one of those things he can’t come back from.”

“You’re right, and I know.” Lucy hums and smiles at him teasingly, “and you still haven’t forgiven him.”

“Ugh. No.” Tim says firmly as he taps her thigh lightly. “Dr. Fuller doesn’t agree with that choice but she gets that certain things are a hard no for me.”

“Dr Fuller knows exactly how stubborn you can be,” Lucy teases. She shifts in her seat and looks across at him seriously, “but while we’re on the topic there was something I wanted to apologize to you about.”

Tim frowns in confusion as he goes over the day's events, wondering what she could be apologizing for. “Apologize to me? About what? Did you eat the last slice of the chocolate cake again even though you said you wouldn’t?”

One of the few ongoing things that they have dealt with since moving together is their sweet tooths. There have been endless silly battles about desserts and who is eating whose leftover dessert.

It’s silly and ridiculous and they have both only ever gotten genuinely upset once—or twice.  But they both had decided that what’s yours is mine stops when it comes to desserts.

Naturally, Lucy fails every time.

Lucy gasps and slaps him on the leg at which Tim laughs wholeheartedly. “Hey! False accusations! You have no evidence!”

“The evidence is the empty container in the trash!” Tim points out teasingly. He turns his head and gives her a pointed look. “Rookie mistake though.”

“Okay fine I got up last night and a cra…need for chocolate cake. I can buy you another.” Lucy says with a small guilty smile.

“No. I left that for you,” Tim concedes, glancing across at her to see her gasp of surprise.

“You liar! You told me not to have the last slice!” Lucy gasps and slaps him again on the thigh again, “was that a Tim test? Really?”

“Yea, I wanted to see if you would have taken it or asked. You failed by the way.”

“You’re the worst.”

“Says the woman who ate my last slice of cake.”

Touché.” Lucy then laughs and sends him a grin, “you’re lucky I love you.”

“I thank god for that every day,” Tim says truthfully.

Lucy gets quiet for a moment so much so Tim has to tear his gaze away from the road to check on her. If he is not mistaken he can see her eyes get a bit glass, but she only sends him a smile and squeezes his thigh in reassurance. “Actually, that’s what I wanted to apologize about.”

Tim frowns, he’s used to conversations with Lucy going any and every direction but he is not able to follow her train of thought this time. “You want to apologize for loving me?”

“What? No, of course not. The conversation is running away from us,” Lucy huffs in exasperation, echoing his earlier thoughts which only brings a smile to his face. “I am talking about the fire. I should have said it back. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you that I loved you too. I did..I do…I just…”

Tim reaches out and takes her hand squeezing it gently, “hey. You don’t need to apologize for that. I knew you weren’t ready yet.”

Lucy shakes her and he sees her furiously wipe her eyes, this time not hiding her tears but his frown only deepens in concern. “No. Me loving you and me forgiving you weren’t mutually exclusive. I should have told you. I always thought, what if one of us didn’t survive and you didn’t know…”

“Hey. I knew. Yes, I would have liked to hear it at the time. But I knew.” Tim promises with a gentle voice. “It doesn’t matter now. We both survived and we’re here together. On our way home, together. We’re great. Our life is amazing. We can’t get any better than this.”

He feels Lucy tense momentarily at his words but then she looks across at him with a wide tentative smile, “it can only get better from here?”

“Exactly!” Tim says warm and raises their clasp hands to kiss her knuckles briefly. “You’re okay now?”

“Yea, sorry I got a little bit over emotional,” Lucy apologizes with a sheepish smile, which is also unlike her as well.

“No need to apologize. Ridley has a way of getting to you, which is totally understandable.” Tim promises as he turns into their driveway.

They go through the motions of unpacking the truck including the groceries they got after leaving the station.

Lucy is uncharacteristically quiet as they unpack the groceries, and Tim wonders yet again if something is on her mind more than just dealing with Ridley today. “Hey you wanna get Kojo, then go for a hike? We don’t have to be at Nolan’s until 8. Angela said they aren’t even watching the broadcast.”

Lucy startles at the question, and Tim wonders if she even heard him but she then shakes her head. “No, I actually wanna bake Wesley some cookies. You can go ahead with Kojo. We probably won’t get back in time to walk him.”

Tim pauses wondering if he should push her but decides against it. She clearly wants some time to herself before they have to socialize with their friends. He walks up to her and places a soft kiss on her forehead and she wraps her arms around him and hugs him tightly.

She looks up at him and smiles warmly in reassurance. “Get that worried look off your face. I’m fine. Ridley is barely a blimp on my radar. I really do wanna make these cookies for Wesley.”

“Was I that obvious?” Tim asks sheepishly as he wraps his own arms around her and Lucy places her chin on his chest and looks up at him with a reassuring smile, as she rubs his back.

“Yes, but I love you for it,” she rises on her tip toes and kisses him slowly and softly before she pulls back Tim groaning softly in protest. She sends him an amused smile, “go on. Kojo will start to get impatient if you’re late.”

“He just sulks in a corner. It’s still better than us leaving him at home to destroy the place,” Tim counters, seeing right through her little tactic as she still tries to convince him that Kojo would be fine on his own at home.

Kojo would be fine. Their things, not so much.

Lucy only huffs in mock exasperation as she takes a step back. Tim shakes his head and goes about getting ready.

It never registered to him as he was leaving that Lucy never once took out the ingredients for the cookies.

When he gets home almost an hour later the house is uncharacteristically quiet. There is no music playing on the speakers. No Lucy in the kitchen.

The house does not smell of freshly baked cookies.

In fact the kitchen is spotless, the only sign that Lucy was even in the kitchen is the single mug that turned upside down on the otherwise empty dish rack.

“Lucy?” Tim calls out with uncertainty the silence in the house unnerving him.

She should be getting ready by now. He glances down the hallway and sees the bathroom door closed and shakes his head not thinking anything of her  lack of response

He makes his way to their bedroom but stops short immediately on entering.

Sitting on the bed is a pair of small baby boots.

Unlike the black pairs that are stored in a box of their things, these are a warm yellow knitted pair and they are resting on top of a small baby onesie in the same warm yellow colour.

Tim hears a small sniffle and looks up to see Lucy standing in the corner of the room, eyes red rimmed as she looks at him. Kojo is circling her feet gently rubbing her leg with his head, clearly aware something has her distressed. “Luce…”

“Read it,” Lucy whispers with a watery grin.

The pieces are finally falling into place. Tim’s heart is in his chest, his mind whirling.

He stretches his arm out to her, beckoning her closer to him. Once she's in grasp he tugs her to his side and finally looks down at the onesie and he has to remind himself to breathe.

Go easy on my Daddy. He’s a rookie.

There is a pair of boots similar to the one on the bed above the writing.

“Oh my god,” Tim laughs wholeheartedly and pulls her in for a kiss, Lucy giggling against his lips

“I got another one. But I liked that one more,” Lucy says with an eager smile as she bounces on her feet in excitment.

She pulls another onesie from her back pocket and shows him a pink onesie.

Baby Boot arriving in April 2027.

Tim is still speechless but pulls her in for another kiss and hugging her tightly, words seem to have eluded him.

“I know this wasn’t part of our plan,” Lucy says quickly. Her eyes are wide and eager and he knows by just looking at her that this is something they both want. Timeline be damned. “We both wanted to be more settled in our new roles. Getting back together and moving in together and I…”

Tim cups her face and kisses her yet again, before he pulls back and grins, unable to contain his own excitement, “when have we ever followed traditional plans?”

“True,” Lucy bites her lips and smiles up at him eagerly, “you’re happy right?"

Ecstatic,” Tim promises and kisses her again. “Euphoric. Elated. Thrilled.”

He punctuates each word with a kiss until Lucy gently pushes him away with a soft giggle. “Okay I get it. But speaking of plans. I know we joked about never doing things traditionally. But I’m going to need my birth plan to be followed to a tee.”

Of course she does. Of course she has already done research on this.

“How long have you known that you already have a birth plan in place?” Tim asks with an amused laugh.

“43 hours.” Lucy bites her lip and looks at him sheepishly, the exact hour count not surprising him either. But he suspects she feels guilty for not telling him sooner, which he personally thinks is crazy—not that he would voice that to her. “It was the damn print place. I ordered the baby boot one and they took so long. I went looking for another one. Then I found the rookie one which was even better.  Then today I got the call that the other one was done. I spent the entire day trying to decide which one to go with.”

“I love them both.” Tim declares with a laugh as he pulls her in for yet another kiss. “I love your constant indecision. I love you and I love this baby.”

“Oh.” Lucy gasps as she breaks out into tears, and she huffs, wiping her eyes in exasperation. He suspects this has been something she’s been battling with all day. “I’ve been a little bit overly emotional lately and I’ve had a good handle on it, but then you had to go say the sweetest thing ever.”

Tim chuckles and presses a soft kiss to her forehead, “if it makes you feel better I did not notice anything different. You normally get a little emotional right before your period. So I didn’t think anything of it. Today was the first time I started to notice something seemed off. But I chalked it up to Ridley being back.”

“I may have wanted to yell at him for his sheer audacity a few times today,” Lucy says with a sheepish smile. “I was so irrationally angry and then I realized. It’s those damn Bradford genes! It was entirely your fault!”

She pokes his chest for emphasis and smirks up at him. Tim grabs her finger with a laugh, “so is that how it’s going to go, uh? Anything that’s not like you and you immediately blame me?”

“Yes!” Lucy says with a giggle. She then slaps Tim’s chest excitedly, “oh! And yesterday I couldn’t eat my portobello burger! That’s on you!”

“That’s not even a burger! It’s fungus between a bun,” Tim quips laughing when she slaps him again.

He thinks he is incapable of not smiling right now. He looks at Lucy and her bright smile, and he knows she’s not fairing any better. If they are looking to keep this secret for a bit, there is no way they are going to pull this off.

He glances at the second onesie.

April 2027. He mentally does the math and estimates she may be about 6 to 8 weeks or so.

“Was there anything else? What made you even take a test? Have you been to the doctor yet?” The questions come out in rapid fire and he knows he needs to know everything.

Lucy grins and tugs him out of the bedroom, “c’mon I’ll tell you as you get ready. We’re gonna be late otherwise.”

Tim nods in agreement as they make their way to the bathroom. “Start from the beginning, first time you even considered it.”

“Oh! I wrote everything down on my phone. I wanted to tell you, but I’ve had this plan on how to tell you for years and I couldn’t let that plan go.” Lucy says eagerly as she takes a seat on the closed toilet seat and grins up at him with excitement. “There were so many times I almost told you!”

Tim smiles, tossing his hoodie and t-shirt into the laundry basket before turning around to face her, “I was hoping you would say that.”

“Are you upset I didn’t tell you right away?” Lucy asks with uncertainty.

“What? No,” Tim insists. He then pauses and realizes they promised they wouldn’t lie to each other. He walks over to her and smiles warmly, “I may have been a little sad I didn’t get to sit and wait for the timer with you, but I loved the way you told me. It’s one of the top 3 ways I imagine you telling me.”

“You thought about that?”

“Yea, of course,” Tim shrugs with an embarrassed smile. “Granted I imagined more the baby boots and not you calling me a rookie.”

“But it’s true!”

“You’ll be one too!” Tim fires back playfully.

“I know!” Lucy says in delight, she grabs his hand and smiles. “I’m excited.”

“Me too,” Tim whispers before he bends over to kiss her.

Lucy hums tugging him closer to her. He vaguely hears the sound of her phone clattering onto the soft bathroom mat. But Lucy's fingers move along his bare torso, distracting him. She deepens the kiss rising to her feet as her fingers move to the waistband of his running shorts.

Tim pulls her closer, his fingers already sliding under her red button up top. He slides his hands from her back to front, pausing when he lands on her stomach.

Lucy pulls back and smiles as she places her hands over his, “kinda crazy right?”

“Yea,” Tim whispers. “Weird moods and fungus aversion aside, you've been feeling okay right?”

“Yes. I have a doctor's appointment for Friday when we’re both off.”  Lucy then smirks and rises on her tiptoes and wraps her arms around his neck, “now I seem to remember us in the middle of celebrating…”

Buzz.

Buzz.

Buzz.

They both look to the floor to see Lucy’s phone has vibrated off the bath mat and loudly vibrates onto the tile floor. Angela’s name flashing across the screen as the phone continues to to buzz and message after message pops up

Where are you?

Tim is not answering his phone.

Are the two of you coming?

Actually don’t answer that.

Wait.

Did you lose track of time having sex again?

One of you needs to answer or I’m going to send a few officers to do a wellness check.

“Oh for fucks sake,”  Tim growls as he bends down to grab the phone.

We will be there in twenty

Finally, where is Tim?

Just got back from his walk with Kojo. In the shower

Okay. Don’t join him in the shower! The results are out at 8!

Oh fuck off Angela!

I knew it was you! Lucy doesn’t text like that. Clearly you’re not in the shower. Unless you’re both in the shower now? Why are you texting me?

You threaten to send patrol on us! Last time you did that fucking Smitty found us.

You scarred him for life

Angela go away! We will be there in 20! I’m not responding again. Bye!

“You always let her get under your skin,” Lucy says with a shake of her head as Tim places the phone on the bathroom counter. When he turns around she is staring at him mischievously as she reaches for him again, her fingers already going to the waistband of his pants. “Now where were we?”

Tim takes her out stretched hand and prevents her from reaching out to him, at her pout he shakes his head. “As annoying as she is. She is right though. We do not have time for a quickie.”

“But we should be celebrating!” Lucy says with a pout.

“And we definitely will. But if we don’t show our face at this thing. Angela is going to be upset and she will start to get suspicious,” Tim points out rationally. “It’s important to her and I gotta show up. We can sneak off once we show our face. I can fake a headache or something.”

Lucy bites her lip in thought but then shakes her head, “no it’s a big deal to Wesley and while we all know he’s going to lose it’s even more that we be there for him.”

“That’s my girl,” Tim praises as he leans down and kisses her with a soft smile. “But we will definitely celebrate when we get home. Now, tell me when you first suspected.”

Lucy moves back to sit on the closed toilet seat and grins as she watches him undress, clearly still distracted.

Lucy,” Tim warns before he grabs the waistband of his shorts. “You cannot join me in the shower. You already have on your make up. Speaking of, you should probably touch up your lipstick.”

“What? No this is the 24 hour one. It’s smudge proof!” Lucy protests as she runs up to the mirror to check on her lipstick. By the time she realizes there is nothing to touch up Tim is already in the shower. “That’s evil!”

Tim only laughs as he grabs the bar of soap, he waits a beat to see if she will continue with her story and like clock work her voice travels across the small room as she continues her excited tone making him smile.

“I was supervising a crime scene and speaking with one of the victims. The koi case!”

A few days ago Lucy had a case where a bunch of teenage activists stole some koi fish and released over four dozen koi fish into one of the lakes in the park. Almost quarter a million dollars worth of Japanese imported koi.

It was an absolute mess, Lucy had spent the entire day at the park with animal control as they tried to collect the fish. Unsurprisingly many of the kois died from the stress, Lucy had been sick that night, she had claimed the dead fish smell had gotten to her, but Tim is now realizing it was so much more than that.

“I think we’re the last ones to arrive,” Lucy observes with a frown as she jumps out of the truck.

“It’s fine. They know both our hours are unpredictable,” Tim says with a shrug. He wraps his arm around her waist, his palm lying flat against her stomach.

Lucy smiles as she gently pries his hand away. “If you don’t stop touching my stomach everyone is going to know.”

“Oh sorry,” Tim says with a small laugh as he moves his hand to rest on her waist. “So, we’re not telling anyone just yet, right?”

“Not yet. I want to see the doctor first. Then we can tell Genny and your Mom, and Angela. Oh Celina and Tamara,” Lucy laughs and sends him a sheepish smile as she places her own hand on her stomach.

“We can tell everyone once we get the okay from the doctor,” Tim agrees. He presses a kiss to her forehead just as he opens the outside door to Nolan’s house. The sound of live music is the first thing to greet them. “They got a band? For this? A pity party?”

Tim!” Lucy admonishes with a giggle, she elbows him in the gut at the both pause at the familiar voice registers.

Ugh,” Tim groans in displeasure. “You see, this is why I am glad you moved in with me. I don't think I would have been able to handle a serenade a la Rodge every time I stayed at your apartment.”

“Behave,” Lucy warns with a shake of her head he pushes open the front door.

“The Bradfords are here!” Angela calls out obnoxiously her brown eyes twinkling with mischief as Lucy and Tim enter the house.

“Where is the loser?” Tim volleys back, with a smirk, neither he nor Lucy batting an eye at her words.

Angela only huffs and points a finger at him. “Only I can call him that.”

Lucy rolls her eyes all too familiar with their antics and squeezes Tim’s waist gently, “I’m going to get something to drink.”

Tim watches her go for a beat then turns back to Angela, “How’s Wesley doing?”

Angela sighs, sobering at his word. "He's disappointed of course, but I think he naively thought this race would have been run fairly.”

“Well that’s stupid,” Tim remarks deadpan.

“Yea well I appreciate the optimism from time to time,” Angela says with a shrug, “dont tell me you don’t as well.”

They both glance across at the food table where Lucy is chatting with Nyla as she dishes out food for both of them and Tim nods a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. Angela only laughs, “I’ll leave you to gaze at your girl while I go check on my loser.”

Tim goes to protest, but knows it will fall on deaf ears. He shakes his head but quickly makes his way over to Lucy pointedly ignoring Angela’s laughter, as he approaches the table he hears the tail end of Nyla and Lucy’s conversation.

“Bradford finally brought you over to the dark side?” Nyla's teasing voice asks. “That bacon cheeseburger looks nothing like that rubber crap you tried to feed me in Baja.”

Tim can see the way Lucy tenses, and he glances at the two plates in front of her of identical burgers, cheese, bacon and a large beef patty, the only difference is one has pickles. Right next to the bowl of burger patties are a handful of veggie patties.

“She knows how to appreciate the finer things in life,” Tim chimes in smoothly with a suggestive smirk.

Nyla glances back and forth from Tim to Lucy and grimaces in disgust, “Angela is right you two are gross.”

She walks off and Lucy can’t help but giggle as she slaps Tim’s arm. “You’re the worst.”

“Bacon cheeseburger?” Tim counters as he watches in amusement as she dives into the burger with gusto.

“This is so good,” Lucy practically moans as she takes another bite. “Why is this so good?”

“I don’t know but you need to keep it down or someone is gonna hear you over Rodge’s dumb song,” Tim mutters. He looks at her curiously, “there is no way Nolan’s store bought burger is that good. I’m betting he doesn’t even season the patty.”

He takes a bite of his own burger and frowns, “Lucy. No. If the baby is making you eat cheese burgers I’m gonna make you a damn good burger when we get home. It’s bad enough we know this isn’t even real cheese because it's the one kind you can eat.

“Are you jealous of a cheeseburger?” Lucy asks with a laugh as she makes a show to bite into her burger again.

“By the sounds you’re making? Yes, this burger is almost bad as your veggie patties,” Tim protests. “Give my kid a real burger at least.”

“Oh so it’s your kid now uh?” Lucy teases with a soft whisper both of them mindful of their nosey friends who thankfully can’t hear them now over Rodge’s singing.

“Well you certainly didn’t want a bacon cheeseburger,” Tim points out with a laugh. “Wow. You demolished that thing in three bites. Damn.”

“Shut up!” Lucy huffs her cheeks pinking up in embarrassment. She slaps his chest as he laughs wholeheartedly.“I’m hungry and thirsty.”

Tim only laughs and presses a kiss to her head. “I’ll get us some drinks. Here you can have my burger and I’ll make one after.”

He only gets a muffled thanks in return when she dives into the second burger. Tim can’t help but laugh in response. He can’t wait to see what other cravings she’s hit with for the remaining 30 something weeks.

He’s so busy picturing Lucy with a large belly balancing a large jar of her favourite cookie butter on said belly as she eats it with a spoon. He does not hear Angela come up to him until he’s tossing two sliced lemons into Lucy’s water.

“Since when does Lucy drink gin and tonic?” Angela asks, eying the drink curiously.

Tim pauses for a brief second at her words and pops another sliced lemon into Lucy’s water. “Why are you and Harper so concerned about Lucy’s eating habits?”

“We’re detectives. We’re just observing.”

“Well Lucy isn’t evidence so stop observing her so loudly,” Tim remarks hotly and Angela raises her hands in defense. “Alright, I should get back to Wesley, Celina mentioned the next song was for him.”

“Ugh, game face on?” Tim asks in amusement at the grimace on Angela’s face.

“I’ve been told I need to be nicer,” Angela mutters.

“Good luck with that,” Tim only laughs in response when Angela flips him off before she walks away

“What’s that about?” Lucy asks curiously as she appears next to him with a plate in her hand and a burger sans pickle but with one bite taken out of it.

“Did you take a bite of my burger? I told you could have it,” Tim says in amusement as he offers her her drink.

“No, I had that, but then I made this one and it looked good too,” Lucy says with a sheepish guilty smile.

Tim looks at the burger then back at her, “you want this one too?”

“Yes—No!” Lucy groans, “it would be my third burger. That’s just gluttony.”

“I think that’s just you being pregnant,” Tim whispers gently, more amused than anything. “You can have that one. I’ll just make myself one.”

“This is your fault!” Lucy hisses as she glances around the room before she takes another bite of the burger. She sighs in pleasure and then takes a sip of her water.

“Yes, we’ve established that I was there,” Tim remarks deadpan, holding back his laughter as she glares at him.

“I don’t think having your stupid genes meant I was going to be eating like a linebacker and so soon!” Lucy hisses again in mild distress as she takes another bite of the burger.

“Technically, I was a quarterback…” Tim raises his hand at her glare and takes a sip of his drink knowing when he’s pushed her too far.

She polishes off her burger and sighs in pleasure, Tim rubs her back gently, “you good now?”

No. What the fuck Tim? Are you a bottomless pit too?” Lucy grumbles. “I am tiny. I can’t sustain your appetite for nine months.”

Tim falters not knowing how to respond to that without her getting her even more upset. Lucy has never been one to complain about her size or food. He is in brand new territory and it doesn’t help that he has had zero time to do any kind of research on this.

He thankfully is saved from saying anything further when Rodge starts singing his song for Wesley and Lucy is momentarily distracted.

As he suspected it’s absolutely awful, “this is so bad.”

Lucy giggles and hides behind her glass, “it really is.”

They both stifle their laughs as the song continues and once it’s complete they clap with the rest of the friends.

Tim thinks the whole thing is ridiculous. Wesley doesn’t need a damn band, much less a song about his loss.

Nolan then does a whole speech, which that Tim thinks is much more appropriate and warranted. As everyone mingles and real music begins to play Tim feels a hand on his waist and looks down to see Lucy smiling up at him sheepishly.

“I’m gonna raid the dessert table, you want anything?”

“Anything you think I might like. I’ll top up your drink,” Tim says warmly as she smiles at him grateful before she slips through the tiny crowd of their friends which consist of James, Celina and Bailey talking about something or the other.

“Was it that obvious?” Lucy asks sheepishly with a mouth full of brownie.

Tim chuckles as he makes his way over to and wraps around her shoulder their eyes meet briefly before he turns to their friends. “Lucy and I are having a baby!”

Everyone breaks out into cheers as they all gather around them to congratulate them.

When Lucy and Wesley hug, she grins at him sheepishly, “I told Tim I didn’t want to tell anyone today cause I didn’t want to steal your thunder.”

“Oh Babe you even got outdone at your own pity party,” Angela teases patting Wesley on the back with mock comfort.

“Yea only cause you have a big mouth,” Tim chimes in. “Did you really figure it out simply from her drink?”

“We noticed a week or two ago,” Nyla chimes in with a knowing smile. “Maybe last week or so? Smitty complained you ate out his sour patch candy which I thought was strange cause I know you said sour candy is…”

“Cruel and unusual punishment.” Celina and Tim chime in with amused laughs.

“They are!” Lucy protests, “but I did enjoy them recently.”

“Every single time we saw you, you had a snack. Things you don’t even like.” Angela says with a laugh, she then points to Tim, “this one wasn’t walking around with a dumbass grin so we figured he at least didn’t know. So we were waiting it out, and needed to gather more evidence.”

Then tonight Bradford walked in with the dumbass grin and we were sold.” Nyla chimes in and she and Angela fist bump, “the burgers and drink were just the final evidence we need to come to our conclusion.”

“Case closed.”
