Summary:

You're suppose to deaft your villians, to save hyrule... not marry them! Goddammit Four! Bad Four Bad!

Notes:

Notice I never played the minish cap nor played four sword but I have the gist of what minish cap is about and I read the four sword Manga. Granpa Smith is what I have seen in fanon btw so that's just how I kinda imagine him I guess.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The wind was loud as it ran by red's ears, Shadow had just sacrificed himself and Vaati was losing his power quick, Zelda was still missing, the black cloud was getting closer, and he could tell his brothers were barely holding on themselves.

Maybe because Red was the sensitive one, but he didn't want Vaati to die truely or to be sealed away. He remembered the events two years prior with the minish. He also remembered when the four regrouped how Vio mentioned how Vaati didn't seem to remember the events with the wishing cap... was it because of the sealing or...

"VAATI!"

The bat looked down at him, it's- his claws gripping at the tower, his massive eyes staring down at him. Green looked at him confused, Blue looked like he was about to scream, and Vio was signaling for him to stop

It's now or never. This is such a stupid idea...

"VAATI WILL YOU MARRY ME- US?"

Time had seemed to froze for a minute. The horrified looks around Red brought him back to the moment as Vaati looked down, his eyes seeming to return to a more brighter red then what it was before. He seemed to consider it for a moment before speaking his voice sounding more like himself than it had before.

"I- YES-"

A thick cloud of smoke appeared, destroying Vaati. Almost, a certain light purple haired mage began to fall from the sky, seemingly unconscious. Green was quicker than the rest, quickly catching him and setting him onto the ground down.

"Is he alright?!"

Vio ran over, then the rest of them. Vaati was alive but unconscious laid against green's chest. For a moment it was calm, just the four of them checking on their fiancée(?)... Their father ran over more horrified then all of them combined and a little pissed...

"Marry? Marry him?!"

Vio was too busy assisting Green with Vaati to reply. Blue was still in shock so that left Red to explain the mess he caused.

"Please Father- I know, he has done some bad things but that Vaati you just saw wasn't him!"

"Oh and how do you possibly want to explain that Link?!"

"It's red- but um, I believe that wasn't Vaati, I believe he was possessed possibly?"

"Huh? How-"

"MUST I SQUASH THESE PUNEY INSECTS MYSELF?"

Ganon's booming voice from the dark cloud stopped all conversation.

"Father please stay with Vaati"

The rest of the colors were already running up to give the finial blow on Zelda's order, but red remained for a second giving his dad this one wish. Link's dad nodded picking Vaati up bridal style. Red quickly lined up with the rest striking the final blow onto Ganon.

...

"E-Ezlo?"

Vaati was barely awake. It was dark out, so he couldn't see. Was he sealed away again? What did he do? What happened? His head felt funny. He quickly gained his senses back, his eyes adjusted to the dark and he felt a single arm, wrapped around his waist losesly. He definitely wasn't sealed away anymore. Who?

Sitting up Vaati felt a bit nauseous, but he managed to pull through and although it was still dark he could make out the figure next to him. Whose light blonde messy bed headed hair could still be maded out even in the dark.

"Link?"

Confusion struck Vaati first of course. He was in the hero's bed! Wasn't he just sealed away? Didn't- oh. The memories hit Vaati quick, well it was just the one memory, after gaining recontrol of his body again and agreeing to marry link... but wasn't there four of them? And wasn't the one who asked wearing a red tunic?

"Mhm?"

A sleepy little mumble brought Vaati back from his worries. He quickly realized he had been gripping Link's arm. He quickly let go as Link sat up and rubbed his eyes.

It took the other boy a second to get used to the dark, but once he was used to it he looked at Vaati. It was hard for Vaati to make out his expression but Link seemed excited?

"Oh! You actually awake now! Are you hungry? There is some left overs I can get you, I'm sure grandpa wouldn't mind since you were passed out and missed dinner."

Vaati blinked, he didn't expect the question. He agreed anyway, it might be for the best if he atleast knew what was happening and what did happen. Why was he unsealed?

The kitchen was nice and cozy, even in the dead of night. Link quickly got Vaati a bowl of soup and sat down next to him, maybe a little to close, but honestly Vaati didn't care much. As he began to eat he could help but notice how Link watched him, his eyes weren't blue like before, they were a mix of red, blue, green, and purple. It was odd.

"What do you remember exactly?"

Vaati nearly choked on the soup, he wasn't expecting the question but he quickly swallowed what he had almost choked on and set his spoon down.

"I remember waking up, it erm felt like waking up. There was four of you I believe? The red one of you had asked for my hand in marriage and I- erm."

Vaati could feel his face go red, being pale he knew Link could see it. No, he knew Link could see his blush because he was smirking at him! Cheeky little-

"I don't really have a ring right now, but I do plan on either forging one or finding one for you."

"You're a blacksmith?"

"I'm just an apprentice right now, my last name is Smith after all."

"I suppose I'll be taking your last name soon, so it's good that I now know it."

"Oh?"

The two sat in silence after that. Then Vaati went back to eating. The room now dropped in and uncomfortable silence. Link own face slightly red.

...

The weeks after the battle were calm. Link and Vaati would often go to the creek that was near the edge of the village, just speaking to eachother over what had happened that day.

One day, Link was with his grandpa in his workshop, working on some nails when his grandfather spoke up.

"Link, my boy, you need to give that boy a proper proposal and a proper ring"

"Listen I know grandpa, but Im trying to-"

"No more excuses"

Link was turned around by his grandfather, and something was dropped down into his hand. On further inspection it was a gold ring with beautiful engraving on it, with a medium-ish sized moonstone in the middle. It looked perfect.

"Now this here was your grandmother's see, been in the family for almost 3 generations. So now I expect you go give the boy a proper proposal."

Link nodded, taking an extra long moment to look at the ring, admiring it before being barked at to get back to work.

...

Later that night him and Vaati were down by the creek sitting in the grass. It was early fall and it was getting a little cold out. Vaati was leaning against Link, his hand dipped in the cool water feeling as it rushed by. The sun setting in the background the sky turning shades of orange and yellow.

"It's getting late out, and I suppose we should be going home now"

Link just nodded as Vaati took his hand out of the water and stood up. Link quickly followed before swallowing hard and and standing up too, but he quickly grabbed Vaati's sleeve.

"Before we go I have a question that I have asked you before."

Link reached into his pocket and pulled out the ring, getting down on one knee as Vaati's eyes widen in pure shock, his face getting cherry red.

"Vaati, will you marry me?"

...

"He turned your Zelda into stone?"

Wars looked at Four with a bewildered look, the fire cracked softly in the background. The rest of the chain also had mixed reactions, ranging from horrified, to crying from the love story.

"Yeah.. isn't he wonderful?"

Four looked love struck as Vaati leaned against him, admiring his ring.
