Work Text:

Langdon comes to find her and she almost jumps in her seat. “Mel you got a second? Just trying to tie up some stuff with our patient.”

Mel is confused but she follows him. Last she heard, they were pretty much done with the patient. But it doesn’t matter to her if she can spend more time with Langdon, she’ll take it.

It’s strange. She has a hard time connecting with people. But with Langdon... She's shocked that even after 10 months they could easily fall back into something easy and familiar.

They enter the room and the patient is very much not there. She looks around and Langdon shuts the door and pulls the curtain over for privacy.  Suddenly she fears the worst. “What happened to the patient?”

“He’s fine, he’s in another room.” He starts and there’s a big smile creeping up his face. “Mel… I just had the biggest safe.” He chuckles softly and shakes his head. “I-I… it was incredible.”

She listens to his retelling and by the end of it she can see tears in his eyes. She can also feel tears of her own.

“Dr. Langdon, I'm so happy for you! See you really are ready to be back!” She almost wants to hug him but she does the next best thing she can do. Her hands land on his elbow and she tugs slighting smiling gleefully, looking up at him.

He looks so different now, it’s funny what an hour here can do to you. It can make or break you.

He holds her gaze and she blushes slightly. She’s still holding onto his elbow and she clears her throat, “So you’re staying?”

“Wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.” He replies and his gaze deepens, blue eyes almost hypnotizing her.

She can barely form a thought because the next second his lips are on hers. Hot and urgent and all she can do is melt into the kiss.

Mel doesn’t know where it comes from, but she starts kissing back. She pushes herself into him and he leans down even closer. Her hands run up his back and tug at his hair, while his hands cup her face.

She can’t believe this is happening. Mel knew she had a crush on him hours after meeting, but he was gone and he was also married. But she has thought about him everyday since he left. And still, this was never in a realm of possibilities only her deep fantasies.

Part of her reasons that this might just be the adrenaline speaking. She has heard rumors of the other hospital staff dating or hooking up. This kind of stuff happens right? If this was only going to be a one time thing, she'll make the most of it.

She hears Langdon gasp when she pulls on his lip with her teeth and she smirks. “Jesus, Mel!” He groans and presses himself completely against her.

Mel moans softly as she feels his erection. She does the only sensible thing; she grinds against him.

That seems to have the opposite effect on Langdon because next thing she knows he’s detached from her and standing a few feet away.

Eyes wild and hair pointing in every direction, he’s staring at her breathlessly. She starts to fidget and look away.

What the fuck did they just do?

“Mel… I…” Langdon starts but cuts himself off and he pinches the bridge of his nose. “Shit.”

Mel swallows, “I mean…” She racks her brain for anything and thinks for once her word vomiting is about to save this. “Adrenaline rush! You know? This. It’s common. That’s all there is. So many doctors do this. This can be easily explained! You would have kissed anyone after that big save you know? It’s just normal!”

Langdon’s jaw clenches and he narrows his eyes at her. “Mel this is not what that was.”

Mel pursues her lips and shrugs not knowing what to say. His gaze can be so intense sometimes. And she’s not sure what he’s trying to say.

“Mel… I came to find you.” He looks away for a moment, looking down at his hands. “After the procedure I felt so alive. I felt like the part of me I thought I lost was finally back. I felt almost whole again. And then… I came to find you because all I wanted after that was to share this with you because despite us barely knowing each other you believe in me more than anyone else does….” He shakes his head, “I wasn’t even planning on kissing you, but seeing your reaction to it… I just couldn’t help myself.”

“A kiss could be platonic.” She tries even though she knows that it was not. But she can see the underlying wave of guilt that’s hitting him.

His head snaps back up and his intense gazing is back, “There’s nothing platonic about the way I feel about you.”

Mel feels her knees shake and the air leaves her lungs. “Dr. Langdon…”

“I’m sorry, I know you don’t want this to be anything but platonic but I can’t lie Mel.” He swallows, “I’m sorry. I’ll resolve this on my own, please don’t feel obligated-“

“I have a crush on you!” She interrupts him, grimacing, and she feels heat travel up to her face. “It’s totally okay if it wasn’t platonic, I was just trying to give you an out. But I’d like very much to kiss you again and do some other stuff with you, obviously.”

Langdon’s mouth drops slightly and Mel can feel herself flush harder. She nods at him and looks away.

“Well Dr. King… you’re full of surprises.” He says and his voice sounds so fond it takes everything in Mel not to reach over and pull him in for another kiss.

She looks up at him again and he has a slight mischievous glint in his eyes that makes her head spin. “I need to get back to uh helping with the charts…” She whispers and Langdon nods a smirk still on his handsome face.

“Yeah of course,” He steps forward, hands reaches out, and touches her braid. Mel’s breath falters and her eyes are glued to him. “Come find me after your shift. I’ll give you a ride home.”

He stares at her lips and his eyes darken. She’s half expecting another kiss but he backs away. He runs his hands through his hair, gives her a wink, and exits the room.

Mel lets out several deep breaths and almost wonders if she should throw some water on her face. Does Langdon realize what he's doing? Does she even know what she’s getting herself into? Does she care?

But she touches her lips and they’re still tingling, so she decides that she doesn’t care.

She’ll be taking a ride with Langdon tonight.
