Work Text:

Shouyo considered himself a mostly peaceful person. Getting into fights really wasn't his thing. He had a talent for not letting negative emotions linger too long before facing them with that blinding cheerfulness of his.

Even though guys as big as Ushijima used to terrify him, he’d grown used to it. As a professional volleyball player, there was no way not to get used to people with intimidating auras. Yachi had even told him that he’d acquired one himself over time (though Tobio insisted that wasn't true).

However, even assuming he had an intimidating aura, his enthusiastic personality usually blinded people to it. So, yes, he didn't get angry easily; he got along with everyone, and his relationships were always pleasant and friendly. His negative emotions weren't usually volatile. Until it came to his boyfriend, Tobio.

Shouyo adored Tobio. It was no secret to anyone, and their relationship was never hidden (Shouyo loved kissing Tobio’s hands and making him blush furiously every chance he got), but that didn't seem to stop any of those "leeches" from flirting with his Tobio.

Shouyo wasn't proud of being a jealous person. But it wasn't like you could blame him, either. His boyfriend was Kageyama Tobio. Shouyo was lucky. Despite everything, those blue eyes always returned to him.

Tobio was adorable. And Shouyo could swear on his life that he was the most beautiful person to ever walk the earth. You can’t convince him otherwise. Plus, their relationship had transitioned from best friends to boyfriends, and everyone knows that’s the best combination for an incredible relationship. And he loved it. Shouyo didn't care how many years he had left to live; he knew he’d spend the rest of them adoring Tobio.

The only problem with his dream boy was that Shouyo wasn't the only one who saw how precious and cute he was. To put it another way: Shouyo couldn't stand people coming from all over to fight for Tobio’s attention.

Shouyo loved volleyball, but it was on those courts where he frowned the most.

Kuroo organized a game. A bunch of volleyball players gathered in one place and were split into two teams. Instinctively, Shouyo got excited. Tobio was no different. When Tobio called him to let him know he’d be in Japan for it, Shouyo’s heart fluttered.

And when he met him at the airport, Shouyo lost his breath. Tobio somehow managed to be even prettier every time they saw each other again. When he called his name with that new Italian accent, Shouyo lifted him in his arms and spun him in the air (Tobio wondered if, perhaps, this current Shouyo had eaten the "little idiot" from middle school, as they hardly seemed like the same person) Tobio’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment. Shouyo’s unmeasured love always had him blushing; often, it was more than his poor soul could take.

"I missed you," Shouyo blurted out once Tobio’s feet were back on the ground, though Shouyo’s hands didn't leave his waist.

Tobio’s eyes widened. He avoided Shouyo’s affectionate gaze to mutter, "Yeah, me too."

Shouyo’s smile widened, if that was even possible. He left a chaste kiss on Tobio’s pouting lips before letting him go. Shouyo’s utopia continued until the day of the match.

It happened in an instant.

Hoshiumi and Nicolas practically flooded Tobio with hugs and words so sweet they almost made Shouyo tremble. His mind reminded him that this was the most "normal" thing he’d see today.

He knew the Adlers adored the ground Tobio walked on, and despite their obvious romantic interest in his setter, they respected their relationship, and Shouyo found himself unable to stay mad at them. Even with that horrible "telepathy" between Ushijima and Tobio—their ability to look at each other and know what the other was thinking—how incredible was that? The Adlers (and ex-Adlers) were all great, and being angry with them had proven to be a waste of energy because none of them were going to stop showering Tobio with affection anyway.

Shouyo sighed; worse things awaited him.

Like the voice, just as boisterous as his own, belonging to Bokuto. He arrived with enthusiasm, wrapping his arms around Tobio’s waist in a hug. Tobio’s arms didn't move; he wasn't used to that kind of surprise unless it came from Hinata.

It’s Bokuto-san, Shouyo thought to calm his mind. He’s affectionate with everyone. And then Bokuto began to brag about being in Tobio’s team, forgetting all about personal space and shouting a barrage of compliments until Tobio’s cheeks colored.

And, as if that weren't enough, Kuroo joined in with that playful tone in his voice that Shouyo was sure Tobio didn't understand.

"Shall I help you stretch, Kageyama?" Sakusa interrupted the scene that Shouyo was currently ruining in his own head.

Tobio, desperately wanting an escape from the situation, said yes. Shouyo breathed loudly.

He heard Atsumu and Oikawa arguing over who was Tobio’s role model before they stopped abruptly, and Shouyo had an intrusive thought about wanting to gouge their eyes out.

Sakusa hated touching people, but he had that obvious exception for Tobio. Shouyo would have been annoyed if the sight of Tobio stretching and being so flexible wasn't actually... hot.

He didn't blame the sighs or Sakusa for wanting to touch; on the contrary, a smile appeared on his face. Tobio was his boyfriend, after all. He was the only one who would be doing anything more with that flexibility.

"The thighs, damn it," he heard a murmur behind him. Atsumu, probably.

"The best part is the waist," Oikawa pointed out, completely convinced. "How is it so narrow?"

"He does Pilates, that’s why his waist is so easy to grab," Shouyo replied with a smile. Oikawa’s face, by contrast, looked terrified. "Tobio is cute, isn't he?"

"Don't answer, it's a trap," Oikawa said, silencing Atsumu and Suna.

"Tobio is precious," Nicolas sang behind them without a shred of shame. "Shouyo is so lucky."

"I need a kiss, just one and I’ll be happy," Atsumu wailed. "It’ll be like true love’s kiss."

"Huh? What are you saying now?"

Hoshiumi suddenly appeared behind Shouyo. "I want to kiss Tobio!"

"Are we being given permission to kiss Kageyama?" Kuroo inquired.

"In any case, Tobio is the one who gives permission," Shouyo reminded them. "And no! None of you are going to ask Tobio if you can kiss him!"

"Someday, Shouyo, you’re going to make a mistake and I’ll be there to tell him to leave you and fall in love with me—you know, like those movies Oikawa watches," Suna crossed his arms over his chest. "Anyway, how long have you been together? 5 years?"

"10 years," Shouyo answered, swapping his frown for a massive grin.

"That’s a long time," Atsumu commented. "You guys should break up. See other people and... Shouyo, sharing is caring!"

Oikawa blinked at the bravery of his apparently new enemy and then nodded. "You’re having a very long turn, and I was in line first."

"In line? Is this a supermarket queue now?" Iwaizumi mocked. "And you weren't 'in line' first; if anything, you skipped the line and came back once you saw there were more people."

"Are you saying you were in line first?" Suna asked with a mocking laugh.

"I was clearly in line first!" Shouyo growled before Iwaizumi could get a word in.

"Why are you guys shouting about lines?" Tobio peeked over. The chatter stopped instantly, and he tilted his head. "What are you lining up for, anyway?"

Shouyo pulled Tobio’s arm toward him. "I don't get it either," he chirped. "Ready to play, Yama?"

Tobio smiled at him, tugged on his shirt, and gave him a chaste kiss on the lips. "I'm going to destroy you, idiot."

Shouyo smiled foolishly. His eyes sparkled as he watched Kageyama’s back walk away.

"I hate you," Sakusa told him when he returned to his team. Shouyo cackled.

"There must be something wrong with you, maybe some slip-up in Brazil that would make Tobio hate you," Suna mused.

Nicolas laughed when he heard the accusation. Ushijima, from the other side of the net, snorted. "It would not be convenient for Shouyo’s physical well-being to hurt Tobio."

Hoshiumi, standing beside him, nodded. "I would literally burn your house down if Tobio said you cheated on him. On the other hand, I wouldn't be so upset if you just happened to break up."

"Jealousy makes you all look stupid, no offense," Shouyo teased.

"This is truly ridiculous," Iwaizumi sighed.

Oikawa patted his shoulder. "Relax, Iwa-chan, be patient. Someday."

Iwaizumi smacked his friend's head before turning toward the court. "Concentrate. Let's play."

And Shouyo probably didn't mind losing today. If his wide smile didn't say enough, his cheeks, red from every smile Tobio sent his way, certainly did. And besides, he got a consolation prize at home afterward, so Shouyo couldn't really say he had lost at all.
