I think my coworkers are from an alternate universe where ABO is a thing???????

Yes, I mean the fanfiction trope.

I (25M) begin working for a company that specializes in producing horror visual novels around 1.5 years ago. I work in one of the teams in the Field Operations department, where our job is to essentially go through a simulation of the horror story to see if it really is that scary. The pay and benefits, while they could be better, aren’t abysmal, and my coworkers are okay for the most part, except for one thing.

They keep going on about scents for some reason? I remember seeing someone I met during training and she asked me if I used blockers? I asked for clarification because what does she mean by blockers, right, and then she kept wondering why I smelled like nothing? Isn’t it better to smell like nothing than to stink? But I thought she meant that maybe cologne was mandatory around the office, so I asked if there were any scents she liked because I was never really interested in perfumes or colognes and don’t know where to start, but she got really flustered and ran away from me. My other teammate, too, have commented that I smell like nothing, which is a really weird comment, right? Smelling like nothing is the norm, right?

So I bought a cologne set that came with various bottles, just in case one of them turned out to smell bad. But they all smell okay, so I rotate between them everyday. I noticed that on the first day I was wearing cologne, all my coworkers seemed happier? One of the team leaders in my department even commented that I must feel safe now. But when I started rotating between my colognes, I kept getting side-eyed? I’d hear my coworkers whisper behind my back too about the changing scents? My team leader even came up to me and asked me about my love life and if I was being ‘safe’? Like what? Our jobs keep us too busy to have a love life? And how does me using a different cologne everyday result in rumours that I sleep around? I was even approached by a junior I’ve never talked to for advice on dating? If I don’t know you and you don’t know me, why are you asking me for dating advice?

There’s also the talk about gender? I remember a coworker once asked me what gender I was, and I just said male? I thought it was clear. But she just shook her head and laughed, and talked about stereotypes which made me wonder if I don’t look male? But I keep getting asked about my gender, even by my team leaders! It’s so weird! Maybe they just know a lot of people whose looks go against the norm? But at one point I just gave one of my coworkers my ID so he could confirm it for himself but he asked why my card didn’t have a gender designation? I had to point at the ‘Sex: M’ label above my height? Do people not know how to read? I once got called a late bloomer, too, when I said I was a man. Late bloomer. Like, what?

Pheromones, too. I thought those were just animal things because humans don’t have functional vomeronasal organs to detect them. But all of my coworkers, even my boss, seem to believe in them. Once my team leader and I were having a really awkward silent moment, and then my other leader yelled at him that he could smell his pheromones from down the hall? I didn’t smell anything and I was in front of him? This team leader might just be weird though. Once, he wondered why I hadn’t applied for any leave yet despite working for a year. I don’t get sick often, so I never needed to, but he seemed almost scared for me? Instead of praising my hard work and nonexistent devotion to the company…and he then asked how many ‘cycles’ I had skipped. I’m not a woman and I don't get periods? And there was talk about suppressing hormones? First of all, I’m a man and so is he, so he knows we have a hormone cycle every 24-hours, and that they don’t give us any pain or discomfort. Second, I don’t even know how I’d get access to those kinds of drugs if they even exist. I think they’re called ‘blockers’, but I’ve never heard of them until I started working at this weird company.

To be honest, I would’ve just let it go but getting looked at weirdly for using different colognes is kind of annoying. So I did some deep reflection, and thought of this: omegaverse. When I looked further into it, it all seemed to add up? The scent stuff would make sense, as well as constantly asking my about my gender — maybe they meant my secondary gender, which of course is null, because I am a human. The cycles, I suppose they meant rut or heats? Ew. Though I haven’t been able to deduce whether my coworkers are from an alternate omegaverse universe where betas have cycles or are cycleless. But, from the look of my supervisor when he asked how many cycles I had skipped, I suppose even betas have cycles where they’re from? And ‘blockers’ would block the hormones that cause these cycles, which probably also are the reason why scent is produced? But I still don’t know why I’d get side-eyed for rotating my colognes. Do they think I sleep around or something? I thought scent wasn’t supposed to stick to anyone that easily? Also, isn’t that kind of rude? So what if someone sleeps around?

There’s also the matter of, if they are from an alternate omegaverse universe, whether my coworkers are part-wolf or are humans with functioning vomeronasal organs. To be honest, I don’t really want to know.

But I need advice. What do I do? Can I even do anything about this? Has anyone else ever had weird omegaverse coworkers or anything related to it? Is there anything I should know in case I accidentally offend my supervisors?

How to get my junior coworker to trust/feel safe around me? I would like to ask him on a date.

Excuse the blunt wording. I (28Mα) work for a video game production company and supervise one of the teams in the Storymaking department. There’s this junior on another team whom I often run into and attempt to make small talk with. However, not once in any of our encounters have I ever smelled a scent coming from him.

When we met those first few times, he was completely scentless! For a good few months! I even asked if he felt safe with the team and he agreed, yet he still never released a scent? And I found out he doesn’t even take time off for cycles? I’m awfully worried for his health with the amount of blockers he must be on, yet he doesn’t even seem aware of their effect on the body. His sense of smell has already been blocked out! He can’t sense any of my pheromones at all.

I’ve been trying to do things right. I’ve looked out for him when we’re out in the field working, rubbed our wrists together to scent mark him, yet he’s never let me smell his scent? Our company is quite accepting of all subgenders and grants paid leave for cycles or secondary gender related issues. Hormone and pheromone medicines come with the health insurance our company grants us.

I would like some advice regarding how to get him to trust me. I’ve never been able to pick up on his designation and he has always been very secretive of his subgender to everyone in the company. I do not care what his designation is. He currently has a smell, as he comes to work smelling different everyday. At first I thought he was taken, but I’ve come to realize that these scents have a rotation, and when I asked, he said he was wearing cologne, in an attempt to mask his scent I suppose. He is truly a very secretive person.

Should I do anything else? I don’t believe he’s the kind of person to appreciate small trinkets as gifts, but should I start ordering him food? Our lunch breaks are unfortunately at different times so I cannot eat with him but I can take care of him in this way.

I (22M) have been at my current company for 1.5 years now. I have had the same work-mandated roommate for the majority of this time. We don’t get along, at all, he’s really a crazy psycho freak and I don’t know how he hasn’t been fired yet.

But recently I’ve been thinking. What if he’s a psycho because he’s not human? He, like, literally doesn’t have a scent. At all. I’ve never been able to detect anything from him and we live together! I’ve also never been able to get a read on his subgender. Like, nothing. No signs of alpha, no signs of omega, no signs of beta. But he’s probably a beta if he had to be anything. But like, literally nothing. Void. It’s like he’s a completely different species of human? Is there technology advanced enough to distinguish Homo lupusiens from other human species?

But what do I do? I can’t stop living with him. But seriously, the lack of anything from him really creeps me out. He’s never even taken time off for a cycle? Like, what if he’s actually a real psycho monster?
