Work Text:
Behind the metal door, Falke awaited. Kolibri held her clipboard close to her chest. She had papers to be stamped. Yet, lately, every time she stood by the Commander she found herself holding her breath. Like right now as she let it out.
She couldn’t let that hold her back. Work was to be done and Falke likely sensed her outside the door. So she opened the door and walked through. Inside, Falke stood with her arms behind her back. She was looking at one of the paintings that adorned her office.
Falke turned when she heard the door open. “Ah, Kolibri. What brings my Hummingbird here today?” She smiled.
Kolibri couldn’t help but smile back. There was something warm about the Commander’s smile today. “I have papers for you to stamp.” Before she could walk over and hand the clipboard over, she found it pulled as if taken by an invisible magnet. The clipboard floated in front of Falke.
Falke didn’t bother to hold it with her hands. She tapped her chin. “Hmm, I see.”
Kolibri wasn’t particularly possessive of her clipboard, but the Commander didn’t have to swipe it. She could’ve handed it off just fine! There was no need for bioresonance and it was an excuse for her to walk over.
“Your thoughts are not as quiet as you think, Kolibri.” Falke peered from behind the clipboard with a smirk aimed down at her.
A faint heat appeared on her faceplates. How could she be so careless. “I... sorry.”
“No need to be sorry, Kolibri.” Falke continued to read through the papers. Pages flipped upwards by themselves as if guided by a pair of invisible hands, only to be tucked behind the clipboard. She walked over to her desk to look for something, only to find it missing. “I’ll be right back my lovely Hummingbird. I left my stamp in my study.”
The Commander exited. More importantly the clipboard was left levitating in the air. It was closer now to the ground, but not too close as if it to taunt her. It was very tempting for her to walk over and take it. It was her clipboard, but Falke could come back at any moment.
No she had to. Without it, she was exposed as if the clipboard was a shield that she had lost. If she could just jump onto it, surely she could drag it back down into her hands? There was only one way to find out. So she walked over and jumped! She managed to grip onto the edges. Except… she now dangled in the air and held onto the clipboard as if it was a cliff edge. She kicked her legs in the air in an attempt to drag it down. It refused to budge, it was practically frozen in the air. Why wouldn’t it move!
“My... my. What are you doing my Hummingbird?” Falke had walked back in with her signature stamp. Only to set it aside on her desk to address the Kolibri in the room.
Kolibri had no words to the Commander seeing her like this. “Uhm... uh...” Kolibri continued to hang onto the clipboard. Why was she still hanging on? She should’ve let go. Instead the clipboard levitated upwards and she found herself face to face with the Commander. Kolibri had to look away, unable to meet the gaze of Falke. “Commander..” She gave a nervous smile.
“You could let go right now my Hummingbird. What’s stopping you?”
She could’ve... as her head looked down towards the floor before back to the clipboard. A smart individual would’ve done so. Her hands refused to let go. “I…” She hadn’t realized just how close she was to Falke now.
“Hmm? I think I know why my little bird.” Falke leaned her head closer that their noses touched. Then her lips gently pressed against hers.
Her heart fluttered in that moment, and sparks ignited a wildfire inside her body. The bluest of eyes looked back at her. The world came to a halt in that moment. At least until she found herself suddenly falling onto the floor. She landed with a thump.
The Commander smirked at her from above. “Mwah!” Falke took the clipboard back and move to sit at her desk. “I’ll get these stamped for you my lovely bird.”
Kolibri was left dazed on the floor.
