"Goodbye Grandpa Garp"
Chapter one
Of
"The gargoyle, the selkie,and the fire nymph."
This story , like many before it, came to fruition from an observation or a meer whisper. This story came to be due to a boy who was daring enough to speak out against injustice. That boy's name was Luffy. His story started out like many of his race. Mystics they were called. Living aside other,more human, races Luffy was taught quickly about how the world worked. His mother passed quickly after his birth not by complications but of the fear of others. For luffy's father he quickly disappeared after leaving luffy's at the hands of his grandfather named garp. He couldn't really complain he had someone that protected him despite the constant clashing between them both. Luffy was fed ,sheltered , yet was growthing restless.
The ,now, seven year old was told about the world he was brought into by his grandfather. How his grandfather promised his father that he'll protect his only son , how his mother was killed at the hands of this group called the trappers,and that the trappers were groups of humans that only made judgment based on hate and/or misguided fear. Garp told him time and time again that fear and hatred can lead many to do unspeakable things and that people like him and Luffy need to find ways to live despite the actions of others . Questions always filled the boy no matter how many of these talks he had to sit threw . Most being "why?". Why does he have to be punished by all this by hiding while the human children play? Why does he have to be feared by people he hasn't even met before? Why is it that he can't live without other's fearing for him? Threw out his seven years of life he was growing restless and garp knew this.
When the sun was still under the horizon garp had taken a still slumbering Luffy outside in the hasty attempt to relocate his grandson. Once luffy's little stone body felt that cool morning air he woke up. His round eyes adjusted to the dimmly lit woods before looking up to see his grandpa's face that had a worried expression. Luffy had never saw his gramps with this look at it kind of confused him.
"Hey old man where are we going? You told me I'm not allowed to be out." Luffy asked rather lost.
"I'm taking you to live with someone else for now on me" Garp said camlyas he kept his eyes ahead of them.
"What?! That's not fair!" Luffy yelled as he started to struggle in Garp's grip.
" Keep your voice down boy! I can't risky people hearing you!" Garp yelled back overwhelmed by the thoughts he had while the mystic was still asleep.
" Do I have a choice in this!?" Luffy asked.
"Absolutely not!" Garp said already fed up by this argument. As he looked down he saw his grandson pouting under his right arm.
" This still isn't fair!" Luffy exclaimed further.
" Yes this all isn't fair but Luffy it's for your own good! I'll be damned if I let a grandson of mine die due to all this so your going weather you like it or not!" Garp said very sternly . He was watching the road in front of him but he did hear that lizard like huff his grandson made when ever he didn't get his way.
There was about twenty minutes before Luffy spoke up again.
" Who are you giving me to?" He asked in a defeated tone. Garp looked down at him with only his eyes before answering.
" I'm taking you to see dandan in foosha village." Garp said bluntly before adding on that she was an friend of sorts before he stopped. He soon went off in the woods at the side of the woods.
" Hey where are we going?" Luffy asked confused before being put on a large rock.
" We haven't ate breakfast yet." Garp answered and only received a rumbling from Luffy's stomach as a response. Only then did Luffy realized garp packed a bag . He pulled out some crackers and split the package with Luffy. Luffy smiled as he started eating . Garp watched him as he at as if all that anger disappeared as his grandson ate. Luffy took in the taste as the herbs and salt despite him seemingly taking not time at all to swallow.
Once both where finished he got Luffy off the rock and now was holding his hand as the walked back to the dirt road.
" How long until we get to foosha village?" Luffy asked as he looked up at his old man.
" About four days." Garp said as he looked ahead of himself.
Those four days came and they went and in the afternoon of the fourth day Luffy saw the entrance to foosha village. Garp picked him up and headed inside.
"Alright let's get you to your new home." Garp said as he walked passed the village folk who are going about their day.luffy was shocked to see other mystics going about their lives as if nothing bad was happening outside the village boarders . He saw manticores, satyr in various forms, and many others living along side humans . Luffy seemed a bit excited but started to notice something.
" He gramps why isn't there any kids here?" Luffy asked confused .
" Because your the first." Garp said bluntly. This news disappointed Luffy a bit but all of sudden that feeling faded as the two where stopped in front of someone.
" Ah Makino just the girl I wanted to see. " Garp said with a big smile.
" Hello garp. I wasn't expecting to see you this afternoon." Makino said in a soft tone with a smile to match. Her big ground eyes looked down at Luffy and took interest.
" And who might this be?" She asked to curious.
" This is my grandson Luffy." Garp introduced the little living stone mystic .
" Yo." Luffy said lefting his arm upon an awkward attempt at a wave.
" Do you have any food ?" Luffy added .
" Luffy I'm hanging you off to dandan not to-" garp was soon stopped by Makino.
" Oh if your going to leave your grandson in dandan's care I'm more than sure I can help feed him garp." She offered rather sweetly.
" Are you sure? If one thing this boy inherited from me is a strong appetite." Garp warned
" I'm sure it's no trouble at all." The green haired lady said before turning back to Luffy and continued .
" Say when you get all settled in with dandan the both of you can head over to the tavern and I'll make you something special. Does that sound good?" She offered which made Luffy's stone tail wag with excitement.
" Yeah I'm starving!" Luffy exclaimed rather loudly . Makino chuckled before walking once more. " Ok I'll see you there Luffy!" She said turning her back to them . With that Garp headed to dandan's home.
" Ok this will be one hell of an ear full." Garp thought as he walked up to the door of the house and knocked. Luffy blinked as he looked up at the old wooden door. Both grandson and grandfather could hear rustling from inside .
" Who is it ?" A harsh voice spoke from the other side of the door.
" It's me dandan. Open the door I have a favor to ask you " garp answered
There were heavy footsteps heading to the door . Soon enough it opened and their stood a rather big older lady that seemed a little younger than garp which Luffy would assume to be like five hundred years old just by looking at her.
" What do you want this ti-" dandan had started to say before catching sight of the child under Garp's right arm ." Who is that?" She asked.
" This is my grandson. Say hi Luffy." Garp said as he looked down at Luffy . Luffy once again lefted his small arm and gave dandan a yo as a greeting.
" Your grandson!?" Dandan said a bit shocked. Just the meer thought of garp having a grandson confused her but then a thought took over.
" Let me guess. You want me to watch other your kid here is that right?" Dandan asked about to shut down the whole thing before garp got a bit serious .
" Listen dandan. The trappers were getting to close to comfort with my town. I'm leaving him with you because your my best bet." Garp said which ,with the topic at hand, got dandan's immediate attention.
" Look garp I hate everything that's going on as much as you do but who's to say that the trappers won't come up here next?" Dandan asked as Luffy started to zone out to a butterfly flying passed.
" Foosha village has the reputation of a safe haven for so long dandan I doubt that will happen anytime soon." Garp said which dandan raised an eyebrow to.
" Doubt or hope garp." She asked and to her shock she saw a bit of uncertainty in his eyes.
" look this will be the last favor I ask of you. Please, just look after Luffy for me " garp added with a tone that dandan wasn't used to with this boisterous man. She understood quickly that this was truly the only thing garp could have thought to do for this young earth elemental. Dandan signs before nodding slightly.
" Alright I'll keep your precious boy safe." She said in a tone that shown even her uncertainty with this situation.
" Thank you dandan."garp said a bit relieved. Luffy soon snapped out of his daydreaming and looked up at dandan as garp put him down to say his last goodbyes.
