Nakamura has liked Hirose for a while now-no-he loved Hirose for a while now. What isn’t there to love about him? He’s adorable, charming, kind, intelligent, and just perfect. Nakamura went to school excited, only to see him.
Nakamura has two personalities: one chill, calm, and a cool tone, and one when he’s with Hirose. Whenever he sees him, Nakamura just melts. A man so stunning, so amazing, Nakamura would die to just to hang out with him, he does that whenever Hirose looks his way, anyway. But Nakamura barely has the courage to have a full conversation with Hirose, how could he ever confess his feelings towards him? His only option would to just wait, build up the courage over time, and when the time was perfect, let it out. So that’s what he did.
It was a beautiful evening in May. It was almost 6:45 P.M., the sunset was yellow, orange, and slightly pink, it was warm - but not too warm outside, and there was love and romance all in the air, and in Nakamura’s heart.
Nakamura patiently waited at the park, leaning on a railing. The scene was a beautiful view of a balcony with a river trailing to the sunset. When Hirose wasn’t looking during cleaning time, Nakamura had slipped a note in a place where Nakamura knew Hirose would look, anonymously stating to be “at the park’s balcony with a perfect view of the sunset at 6:45 P.M. for an important discussion,” so all Nakamura and his hidden bouquet of flowers had to do was wait.
In the distance, Nakamura could hear the rapidly approaching footsteps and a voice that couldn’t be mistaken for anyone other than Aiki Hirose. Nakamura glanced over at Hirose’s direction, his face completely pink. The closer he got, the more Nakamura worried. “What if he rejects me? What if he hates me? What if he’s mad? What if he moves schools,” he anxiously thought to himself.
Hirose arrived, the scene was exactly how Nakamura had always pictured it. Hirose walked up to him with a grin. “Nakamura,” he said playfully, “are you the one who had left me this note? You could’ve just told me at school, silly.”
Nakamura’s face blushed brighter. “I… w-well… uhmm…” he muttered out. Hirose leaned closer to him, still keeping a distance, but indicating that he wants him to go on.
Nakamura finally did what he’d never done with Hirose: take a breath, breathe, and be calm. Nakamura planted his eyes on the ground, scratching the back of his neck, nervously. “Well, this whole year we’ve been friends, i’ve gotten to know you a lot, and I sure do hope that you’ve gotten to know me as well.” Nakamura glanced back up at Hirose, he still had that happy and kind expression on his face. God, he was the most perfect and beautiful man in the world. “And uhm… is there anything else you want to add to that..?” Nakamura stuttered, eagerly.
“You know,” Hirose replied, “there really is. You’ve always looked out for me, you’ve been there for me too. You helped me on tests, gotten me through rough times, driven me when I needed a ride, and overall, were just an amazingly awesome person to be around.” Hirose turned his head slightly, trying to hide the faint pink on his face.
Nakamura’s first reply was shock, surprised by how much Hirose had noticed him, let alone think of him greatly.
“Why do you ask?” Hirose nervous but curiously asked. He looked back up at him, still keeping his face slightly hidden.
“Here’s goes nothing-well, everything,” Nakamura thought to himself.
“Well, uhm… For a long time now,” Nakamura finally let out, “i’ve always admired you, Hirose. I always liked your charm, character, and basically your whole personality.” Nakamura was nervous, but he still kept eye contact with Hirose. “You’re handsome, too. You always have that happy face that’ll brighten anyone in sight’s day, you have gorgeous, chestnut hair, and just-“ Nakamura gulped, “perfect.” He slowly started to pull out the most beautiful tulips from behind him, he knee they were Hirose’s favorite. Hirose’s eyes widened and his face looked completely shocked when he started to realized why he was given that note.
“Hirose Aiki,” Nakamura said, “I love you. I’ve loved you since the day I laid my eyes on you for the first time.” By now, he had both of his hand out, each clutching the bouquet of tulips by the bottom of the stems. “Will you be my boyfriend?” Nakamure finally realized what he had done. He finally did it. He finally had confessed his true feelings to his true love, but at what cost? He knew Hirose would never love him back, he was probably homophobic anyway.
Hirose was beyond surprised. He stood straight with his hands cupped over his mouth, facing directly at Nakamura. Was this really happening? He took the words in and processed them, and he lowered his hands, and gently spoke to the man in front of him. “Nakamura, everything since that day in Chinatown, and we spent the day together, I went home, and I thought about you, and what we did together.”
Nakamura glanced up, tears started forming in his eyes, all he could this about was how he believed Hirose hated him.
“But… that moment in my bed… it was the moment I realized, you were different than my other friends.” Hirose’s tone was soft, affectionate. Like he wanted to keep that moment and savor it. “Over time, and-I don’t know how it took me so long to realize this,” Hirose started to giggle while he spoke, “I loved you too.”
Nakamura instantly gasped softly, did he hear him right? His face was red, not from blush, but from crying softly, his eyes were puffy and all teared up. He softly sniffled and replied, “W…What did you say?”
“I said,” Hirose happily but still gently started, “I love you too. I want to be your boyfriend.”
Nakamura was stunned. Fireworks went off inside and around his head, hell, all over the place in his world. He was frozen, barely breathing, a smile formed, he let out a short chuckle. He was now smiling wider than he ever had before.
Hirose looked at the sunset awkwardly, “I… uh… may I kiss you, Nakamura?”
Nakamura let out a small gasp again, and finally spoke, “Yes, yes, yes, a hundred times YES!”
Hirose looked back at Nakamura, still grinning, and they both leaned in, and gave each other the kiss that might as well have lasted a decade, their arms stretched out as far as they could just to give each other a hug, too. The sky was pink now, matching the color of both of their faces. They pulled apart from each other, still cuddled in a hug, and they both grinned. They smashed their faces together once again and kissed once more, they twirled around and silently promised to never let go of that moment.
Nakamura lay in bed at night, still smiling like no one ever had before. He was the happiest man in the world and he knew it, Hirose did the same thing that night. They both still had fireworks going off in their heart and head, they both had a boyfriend, and they both got into a relationship that would last forever.
