Tookas and the Living Force

Summary:

"Master," Obi-Wan sighed.

"Fine. But let her stay here while I find her a suitable home."

Over the next couple of days, the tooka—Lunn'a, as Obi-Wan named her—followed his padawan around their quarters. She'd nap on him when he meditated, she'd rub against him and meow at him as he cooked, and she even slept on his bed.

Or:
Obi-Wan and the pathetic life form he didn't want.

Notes:

Prompt: Compassion

Work Text:

"Master," Obi-Wan sounded more like an exasperated master than the padawan he was. Qui-Gon would've normally made a joke about Obi-Wan sounding like a single parent of three despite barely being sixteen, but he knew better than to poke the metaphorical bear.

"Yes, my dear Padawan? How may this poor, old master help you?" Qui-Gon tried to make his best innocent face, but it didn't work on Obi-Wan most of the time. Obi-Wan's, however, did work on him. Had his padawan not been so sure of his future being in the Order, he'd have made a good actor.

"I'd love an explanation, Master."

"Ah, you wish to hear about how the Living Force flows through us all?"

"No. I want to know why you snuck a stray tooka into our quarters." Obi-Wan motioned to the animal. "And do not say that you communed with the Living Force and it told you to bring it home."

"But it did!"

"Do not make me call my grandmaster."

"He is biased! You could destroy the temple, and he'd defend you!"

"Padawan, what is that?"

"A bag, Master. I told you I would be going shopping with Bant and Garen today."

Qui-Gon wasn't sure where the boy got his sass from. He knew he most likely learned his stubbornness from him. It was a trait passed down their lineage, and Obi-Wan's future padawan would most likely also be stubborn, but sass was not a lineage trait.

"You know what I meant."

"I bought some toys for Lunn'a," Obi-Wan replied, trying to sound casual, but Qui-Gon knew there was nothing casual about his padawan. He either put his all to something or didn't do it. He seemed to be unable to half-ass anything.

"You seem to be spending quite a few credits on a tooka that you are making me rehome, young one."

"And how is the search for a new home for Lunn'a, Master?"

Just at that moment, Lunn'a came out of Obi-Wan's room, where she seemed to spend most of her time, and purred, rubbing against his padawan.

"Ah, it seems you caught onto my plan." Qui-Gon smiled at him. "However, it seems you also stole my pet."

"I think you mean my pet master."

"Behave before I tell Master Yoda you want to join him for dinner. That it has been too long since you last ate his famous stew."

Obi-Wan blanched and grabbed Lunn'a.

"C'mon, Lunn'a, Master Jinn is being mean today. I can see why you don't like him as much."

Then he walked into his room.
