Green slowly blinked their eyes open. Something sweet filled the air- air? Weren’t they just on a ship in space? Air flow wasn’t really a thing unless you stood in front of the vents. Vents. Soon the past came flooding back to them and they gasped and sat up straight.
Huh. They were… in a flower field. Under a big cherry tree. It was pretty. Peaceful. Quiet. They’d died. Like the ones they killed.
They killed people. Holy shit. White, Blue, Cyan, Lime, Black… And technically Yellow too. Green had been the last to vote them off. All dead. Because of them. Green. The once humble worm farmer. He remembered the moment the parasite got into his body and shivered. He hated parasites. This particular one made him murderous. It was uncontrollable. They’d been… hungry for it. Starving.
Green felt tears fall from their eyes. They’re a murderer. A serial killer.
“Oh I don’t deserve to be here. If this is the afterlife, I should be in the other place. The others should be here, not me.” Green muttered through the tears.
“We don’t think so.”
“Gah!”
Green startled and looked to see… the others. Everyone that had died. They were here too.
“Guys? Wait, what do you mean?” Green asked hesitantly.
Blue stepped forward. Blue looked handsome even in death.
“We mean… that parasite is the one to blame. Not you or any one of us.” Blue said calmly.
“Except my death.” Yellow chimed in. Brown put a hand on their shoulder.
“Yellow.” Blue said.
Green sighed.
“No. Yellow’s right. It was my final decision that killed them and I framed them. Yellow I am so sorry. If I could go back and change it, I would.” Green said. They looked down at the ground, unable to look anyone in the eye.
Yellow softened and sighed.
“No. Green it was no one’s fault but the parasite taking over you. Still, if it’ll help make you feel better, I forgive you. Friends?” Yellow said, holding up a fist.
Green looked up in surprise, eyes still flowing with tears. They nodded and fist bumped Yellow.
“Friends.”
There was a comfortable silence for a few moments. Then White stepped forward.
“Um. E- Everyone? I uh… I’d like to apologize too. Dying kind of put things into perspective for me. I’ve been an ass to everyone the whole time. But especially to you Green. I should have let you fly the ship. It was your dream, not mine. I just took that away from you so easily. I- I’m sorry Green. And I’m sorry to everyone. I wish it hadn’t taken death for me to see that I was wrong.” White said.
The group fell silent in surprise. Green finally stood up and took a step towards White.
“It’s okay White. I shouldn’t have killed you like that. You were an ass, yeah. But you didn’t deserve such a death.” Green said.
White’s eyes began to water which was strange to see from them. White sniffled and Green pulled them in for a hug.
“Awe!” the others said in unison.
“Let’s give them some space.” Blue said quietly.
The group faded away into the background, and it was just White and Green. Green hugged White for a while until they calmed down. Seems like Green wasn’t the only one to hold things in until it exploded. If there was one lesson Green learned from all of this, is that you should talk to someone if you’re having problems. Don’t hold it in and let it become a grudge. You might kill someone. Or, you know, burst into tears.
After a while White pulled away from the hug.
“How’re ya feeling?” Green asked gently.
“Better. Ugh. Man. I guess my dad teaching me that crying is weak wasn’t the best thing in the world, huh?” White said.
“Yeah probably not. Looks like we both need to learn how to let things go properly. But maybe we can do that together?”
White looked up, their eyes still watery but they smiled.
“Yeah. I’d like that. Trust ball?” they said, pulling out one of Orange’s trust balls from… somewhere…
“Wha- where’d you get that?” Green asked.
“I’ve got my secrets. Okay I have no idea. It was just there. Anyways. Something about myself is that… I- I’ve always really admired you Green.”
“Huh? Me?”
“Yeah. You’re so hard working and humble. You’ve worked from the bottom to the top- or I guess you would have. Um, but anyway. I… I don’t know how to do that. I’ve just gotten things handed to me. Which is nice but it didn’t teach me anything. If anything it made me selfish.”
“Hey, we talked about that.” Green said putting a hand on White’s shoulder.
“I know, I know. I still feel badly about that though. I might for a while. Basically, I’ve always admired you. I wish I could have learned how to be humble from the start. You’re really amazing, you know?”
“I am? I never thought of myself like that. Honestly, I kind of admired you too. You were so confident in a way that I never was. We both have faults. But White,” Green grabbed White’s hand and White blushed, suddenly feeling dizzy, “we can help each other. We can help each other become better people so we can help other people become better.”
White sighed and felt their knees go weak. Since when was Green so handsome? They’d always been cute of course. Since White had first seen them.
“Swoon…” White whispered.
“Huh?” Green said, their cheeks turning pink.
People were usually swooning at Blue, not Green! Green didn’t know what to do with this information.
White snapped back to reality and realized what they’d just done. Their face became redder and to Green that simply looked adorable.
“Oh! Uh, I mean… Uuuh… Ugh, screw it. I meant that. Interesting fact number two- I uh, I kind of have always thought you were really cute Green. Like, like since I first saw you.”
Green’s face turned redder too.
“Wow. Me? I never thought… Nobody’s ever… Wow.” Green floundered for a bit. Then they smiled.
“You know White,” Green said, stepping closer to White who grew more and more flustered, “you are pretty cute yourself.”
White felt like they were on fire. Which was weird since they were dead. They suddenly felt shy which had never happened to them before. Like Green said, they were usually confident. But not so much now.
“Y- Yeah? Green, would you, I mean like- do you… um… Oh why is this so hard?”
Green smiled and kissed White on the cheek. White’s face heated up all over again as his heartbeat sped up like crazy.
“If you’re asking what I think you’re asking- yes. I’d like that. I’d like that a lot.” Green said.
White smiled and their knees grew weak.
“Swoon!”
Green caught them before they fell and pulled them in for a sweet kiss.
