'til I run dry

Summary:

Asa and Reze have their first kiss, but everything goes wrong.
-
Replacing Denji with Asa for the kiss during the Bomb Devil Arc.

Notes:

That one scene from The Summer Hikaru Died where yoshikiri was talking about how it was so awful then how it was so good but with Asareze. I was going to post this during pride month, but I got distracted.

Work Text:

Reze interlaced her fingers with Asa's. She led them further away from everyone else that had come out for the festival. Every so often she would turn back to say something to Asa. But Asa couldn't focus on what Reze was saying. Her mind kept circling back to one thought: was this a date?

When Reze had invited her out to the festival, she didn't have much say in the matter. She could barely talk at the time and just shook her head around a bunch, blushing heavily as Reze laughed at her. The whole night Reze had remained close to her and kept holding her hand. There was even a time that someone tried to Reze out, but she pulled Asa closer to her and said that they were there together.

Was this a date? Or were they just hanging out as friends? Potentially the making of them being close friends?

"Asa," Reze said.

Asa finally started paying attention. They were standing at the top of a hill, overlooking the festival ground. It was the perfect spot to watch the fireworks without anyone else bothering them.

"Tonight's been fun, right?" she asked.

Asa nodded. "I've never been to a festival before."

Reze's eyes widened slightly. "Really? I would've assumed that you've been to one since you lived around here."

"No, I was much too worried about being alone," Asa confessed. "I don't go to these kinds of things since they're meant for people to be together."

"Well, tonight we're together," Reze said. She leaned in closer to Asa bringing their interlaced hands up to her chest. "Asa, I think you're amazing. I've never met anyone else quite like you."

Asa was too flustered to even respond.

"We should run away together," she suggested. "Neither of us will be alone ever again. It will be just me and you. What do you think?"

"I-I can't," Asa choked out.

"Why not?"

"I have to go to school," Asa said.

It was a lame reason, but it was the truth. Too many strange things had been going on in her life that she was clinging to the simpler things. School, the occasional times she spoke to people outside of Fami, and, strangely enough, devil hunting. She did wish to run away some days, but she was too cowardly to even attempt it. She couldn't run away with Yuko, and she can't run away with Reze.

"I like you, Asa. I want us to be together," Reze said.

Fireworks shot up into the air as Reze closed the distance between them.

Asa eyes remained wide open as Reze kissed her. The feeling of Reze's tongue in her mouth should disgust her. Girls weren't supposed to kiss each other. Boys were the ones that could kiss each other and girls. But girls kissing other girls was something that shouldn't happen. She shouldn't be doing this. This was so wrong, but she couldn't push her away.

"This is so gross."

"This is gross."

"Good."

"This is good."

"This feels so good."

There was a metallic that flooded Asa's mouth before the pain struck her. Reze pulled away from Asa with half of a tongue sticking out from between her teeth. It was Asa's tongue. Reze had bit off her tongue during their kiss.

Asa stumbled backwards, tripping over her own feet. She attempted to wrap her head around what was happening but all she could think about was the betrayal of Reze biting off her tongue. This was her first kiss, and it ended like this. She had pictured kissing a handsome boy that caught her attention while she was at school or maybe some guy that she met at a cafe. But Reze had stolen that from her. The fact that she'd taken her tongue just made things worse.

For some reason, she didn't blame her.
