Notes:

I was in a hotel pool after quali for the Austrian GP on Saturday and I thought to myself, what would Oscar and Lando be doing right now?
There is no set time for this, this fic could occur whenever you want it to 😊

Work Text:

Oscar lay on his back in the pool. The only thing he saw was the ceiling, all his other senses were numb. His ears were underwater and the chlorine had reduced his sense of smell. He could barely tell if he was wet or dry anymore. He lay there, nothing in his mind. The only thing that registered in his brain was the silence of the water and the bright lights on the ceiling. He didn't have to work to keep his body afloat, it just did that. Growing up in Australia, you learned to swim at a pretty young age. Oscar liked to float in hotel swimming pools if they were empty and away from prying eyes, either a rooftop or indoor pool. The water wrapping around his body made him feel calm and a little less homesick. Thankfully, the pool wasn't too cold, so his body could focus on the dulling nature of his mind. He could feel his brain turning off as he lay there. His eyes started to droop, he knew he should get out and head to bed soon before his skin became wrinkly but he felt heavy and heady from the weightlessness of the water.

He reluctantly closed his eyes for a few seconds. He knew he wouldn't drown, and he had never fallen asleep in the water but still. He felt himself be carried across the empty pool. It wasn't the biggest pool in the world, so he wasn't surprised when his toes touched a wall. He simply stretched his foot out a little to gently kick himself back to the middle. Except he didn't move, instead, something or someone grabbed his ankle. He kicked frantically and lifted his head from the water to see his attacker as his eyes flew open. Thankfully, they released him as he moved to stand in the pool. It was only 1.6 metres, so he could comfortably stand even at the deepest point. In his panic, he managed to get water in his eyes. He had to blink a few times to see who was standing in front of him.

"Lando?"

"Hi Oscar!" Lando said innocently, like he hadn't just almost caused Oscar to have a panic attack.

"I said your name over and over again, but I don't think you heard me."

Oscar's panting had calmed down a bit, and his breathing was returning to normal.

"Yeah, I don't think I did."

Oscar looked at Lando and saw that he had his shirt off, he could see the tan skin of his pecs and the way his abs were so solid. Not defined like a six-pack or anything, but he knew that if he put his hand to Lando's stomach, he would find it hard.

Oscar swallowed, refusing to let those thoughts distract him on a race weekend.

"What are you doing here? You don't like swimming."

"Well, I was on my way to the gym when I saw Arty leaving. I casually asked if you were in the gym, and he said that he didn't know exactly where you were, but you were probably in your room or the pool."

"Uhuh"

"Yeah, and then I snuck in here earlier to see you doing laps. I didn't pack swim shorts, so I had to buy some from the hotel and get a towel and sneak back down without anyone noticing. Here I am."

"Uhuh"

"I didn't know you liked swimming, Oscah"

"Well, it's not proper swimming, more just lazy movements from one end to the other. Also, you don't know everything about me, Lando."

"You were good, I saw you. How come you know I don't like water or swimming?"

"Because you tell everyone everything and I am a bit of a fanboy."

"That we all know. You need to teach me how to be more nonchalant." Lando said, making small splashes in the water with his hands.

"Never. I like you like this."

"You can't say that stuff here, or I'll have no control of myself, and we'll break your precious rule," Lando whined, refusing to look up from the water he was playing with.

"Well, you can't show up half naked and expect me to have control either. Also, we both agreed, so stop blaming me."

"But it's so much easier for you to be a composed rule follower and for me to be the bad boy trying to break you. You, sir, are also half naked."

Oscar rolled his eyes and looked away from Lando. His fingers flexed with the itch to touch him. To grab Lando's waist and feel the way it curved delicately. He yearned to see the way his pale hand fit on his tan waist. Lando, completely unaware of the turmoil in Oscar's head, looked up and moved closer towards him.

"Would you do something for me? I know we can't have sex on a race weekend or even touch each other, but there is no one here, and I asked Arty to stand guard."

Oscar groaned at the thought of his trainer thinking they were fucking in a public pool.

"His name is Artturi or Arthur Lando, what did you even tell him?"

"You don't know Arty like I do. I told him I was going to swim, and he asked if you were still here, and I said 'probably'. Then he asked if I couldn't wait for you to get out, and I said 'not really', and then he offered to sit outside until one of us left. See, there was no strongarming involved if that's what you were worried about."

Oscar was baffled by the way Lando's brain worked. Sometimes he was so shy that he started squirming when Oscar kissed him, and other times he had no shame whatsoever. Oscar also knew Lando had the subtlety of the fucking Titanic.

"That's not really what I was worried about," Oscar mumbled under his breath.

"Oh, ok" Lando went quiet, Oscar could feel the way his confidence was wavering before he even asked Oscar what he wanted.

"Ask me Lando, there's little I can deny you." Oscar encouraged.

Lando looked back into Oscar's eyes then, and he could see the way Lando's pupils dilated, the black swallowing a bit of the browny green.

"Can- can you dance with me?"

Oscar's heart broke at how little his voice was. Oscar silently held his hand out.

"But you don't dance"

"I do for you"

Lando took his hand and put the other one on his shoulder. Oscar finally got to put his hand on Lando's waist, sliding his hand around to hold Lando on the small of his back. Lando pressed himself into Oscar, their bare chests touching. Now that his ears weren't underwater, Oscar could hear the soft piano music playing from the speakers around the pool. He looked down at Lando, who had buried his head into the crook of Oscar's neck.

Oscar could feel Lando's curls brushing his ear, so soft, always. He could smell Lando's shampoo and deodorant as his body crowded his. Oscar tentatively placed a kiss on the side of Lando's neck. Oscar could feel the shiver that ran through Lando at the contact. He didn't think he would ever get bored of the way Lando's body reacted to him. They swayed together in the water, barely moving. Oscar couldn't think of a moment in his life when he had felt more peaceful.

"Thank you", Lando whispered into his shoulder.

"Lando, you have no idea how much it hurts to have you and not have you at the same time."

"I think I might."

Lando lifted his head to look at Oscar.

"Sometimes I feel like you think this is easy for me. I love you too."

Oscar didn't hesitate before moving to kiss him on the lips. He looked so soft and vulnerable. His eyes were going to make Oscar cry if he kept looking into them.

The kiss was chaste, and he didn't linger as much as he wanted to.

"I'm sorry baby."

Lando whimpered when he heard him say "baby". It was mean of him to use that word when he knew the effect it had on Lando but Oscar liked to remind himself that he could do that and elicit that reaction from him.

Oscar tucked Lando back into his neck.

"I know you hurt as well."

Oscar let go of the hand that was holding Lando's and used it to brush the curls of Lando's hair. Lando moved his free hand to Oscar's waist. They were just hugging at this point.

"Last week was fun, but sometimes these quiet moments are my favourite," Lando said.

Oscar groaned as the vision of Lando on his knees in front of him flashed through his head.

"Lando, please, I'm going to get hard."

Oscar could feel the smile on Lando's lips.

"I mean I would get on my knees again if we weren't in the water."

He was going to kill Oscar one day just from his words.

"Lando, if you offer, I might ask you to stay there for the rest of time. Your mouth is so addictive."

"I love that you would ask." Lando murmured.
Oscar was confused.

"I would always ask."

"I know, but you know I would say yes, so why ask? Some people would say 'I might make you stay there for the rest of time ', but you would ask."

Had someone made Lando do things?

"Well, first of all, consent is always good to have even if it was previously implied, and secondly it makes it so much hotter for me when you say 'yes I want to' that way, I know you are also having fun."

"Mmmh"

Oscar could feel the vibrations through his body.

"What if I wanted to make you do something?"

Oscar was confused again, they hadn't had this conversation before. It wasn't as if Lando had never led in the bedroom before. He thought it was quite hot when Lando took charge.

"As long as it's in a safe environment, I would say you can make me do anything you want. You just have to trust me to say no when I don't want to."

Oscar could feel Lando nod.

"I don't know how much making there would be, though. I will follow you blindly, I think you're unbelievably hot when you tell me what you want."

Oscar could feel the shudder that ran through Lando's body at his words.

They were quiet for a while, just swaying to the music.

"You're making one of my dreams come true," Lando whispered into his neck.

"You're always making my dreams come true. You being in my arms is so far beyond my wildest imagination."

"You sap." Lando giggled, pressing a kiss to his neck before lifting his head up to look him in the eyes.

"Can I put my feet on top of yours and then you can like move us around to water?"

Oscar nodded, and Lando did just that. Lando weighed nothing in the water, and it helped Oscar lead as he took tiny steps along with their swaying.

"I was at the bar at a hotel in Thailand a few years ago. The bar was next to the pool outside, and it was nighttime. There weren't floodlights or anything, just soft yellow lighting. As I sat there sipping my drink, there was a couple in the pool, probably on their honeymoon, just on the shallow end, swaying back and forth, dancing. They looked so incredibly content. I wanted to do that with someone I loved one day. She had her hand on his chest."

Lando moved his hand from Oscar's waist to the top of his chest.

"And he held her hand."

Oscar moved the hand that had been in Lando's hair to hold the one on his chest. Oscar was always mesmerised when Lando got this way, telling things he'd never told anyone before.

"They just stayed there, unbothered by the children splashing around them. Perfectly happy in their own world under the stars."

Oscar leaned forward and placed a kiss on Lando's forehead, unable to stop himself.

Lando had such beautiful and simple dreams, it made his heart ache.

"Your dreams are my dreams, and I will work to make every one of them come true."

"I want to make your dreams come true as well."
God, he was the luckiest person alive.

"Obviously professional goals are different." Oscar clarified.

Lando rolled his eyes. "Way to ruin the moment, Osc. I know you didn't mean you would let me pass and win."

Oscar smiled at how dramatic Lando could be sometimes.

"Should we get out?"

Oscar didn't want to let him go just yet.

"Soon."

Oscar continued to move, little steps back and forth.

"How come you got in the water if you don't like swimming?"

"Well, I had a dream to make true, and I knew you would never let me drown"

Lando's trust in him never failed to befuddle him, he didn't know what he had done to prove himself so trustworthy.

"I willingly drown in your eyes every time I look at them"

Lando released his hand and hit him across the chest, light but still it stung on bare skin.

"Why are you so fucking cheesy sometimes?"

"Because I love you."

Oscar leaned forward and rubbed his nose against Lando's, knowing Lando pretended to hate it.
