check razor smirk in check

Summary:

"Shane met Ilya's infuriating smirk with one of his own, and somewhere between the razor-sharp banter, bruising checks, and the roar of the crowd, they both realized that the line between rivalry and something far more dangerous had already disappeared."

Shame meant ill, yeah? Sin fury—ate tongue—smack! Worth wine of reason in summer, but when the rays were ashore, painter-brazen sex ends theory ever. Crown thy bath, real ice, thought thy lion. Be to one revelry in sum: think fair, nor stranger, us. Head all red, he did appear.

This text was procedurally generated as follows:

  1. I asked ChatGPT to write one sentence of Ilya/Shane Heated Rivalry fanfic — this sentence appears in the summary. All other procedural text was created with a word processor, analogue algorithms, and my hands, eyes, and brain. Thus I did not tag AI-generated text.
  2. I created a corpus based on the words within the original sentence. All letters had to remain in order, though of course I chopped and added spaces at will.
  3. PAR HASARD: I alphabetized the corpus in a spreadsheet, then used a random number generator to pick 25 words, 5 words in 5 lines each. I did not fully embrace the goofiness of OuLiPo procedural generation and re-generated a couple of words, which is probably not something I would do if this were original poetry. I am shackled to narrative!
  4. N+7: I replaced each noun in ChatGPT's sentence with the word appearing seven words later in the sentence. Then I did that irregularly, with a couple of other non-noun words, until I liked the result.
  5. ECHELLE: I replaced one letter at a time.
  6. HOMOISMS: I translated the first sentence homosyntactically (moving backwards through the original sentence to find the next available replacement part of speech); I translated the second sentence homophonically. Since there are many tools freely available do this kind of thing perfectly, I did not overly concern myself about fixing the inevitable human imperfections in each process (which, I'll admit, is something I once would have focused very intensely on, at times to the detriment of the piece, though some would argue my focus on narrative and sense-making is also to the detriment of the piece).
  7. PAR HASARD PAR HASARD: This one was totally random.

If you would like to procedurally generate any text based on any of these word games and share your poem or sentence in a comment, it would honestly really thrill me. Of course, there's no pressure! Just – it would be fun. :)
