Chapter Text
The market for bioweapons started with Umbrella. What began as viruses and weapons for war slowly started to become more and more mainstream. When the first vaccine was made for a virus that umbrella had created, people started to see what else this technology could do. One company started the market for humans infused with mutated animal DNA.
These living walking bioweapons were not undead. Infused with a living unique minor virus- they were usually purely for show. A perverted businessman that wanted a meek girl with cat eyes maybe. Or a freak show purchasing a human with scales.
But the money gets thicker when the experiments are usable. Slowly they got more animal-like. A man with bear arms. A woman who could see in the dark and had fangs like a snake. The unsightly accidents usually get put down.
You were kidnapped a while ago. How long, you weren’t sure. You’d seen them- the influx of missing fliers as well as the suspicious job openings. You knew better than to get into it. But they still got you. Taking you because you didn’t have enough to be remembered- missed by anyone other than a couple friends.
It started small. They tested you, saw what your body could take- how strong it was. They said your back was the best part of you. Then they started injecting you with things.
Tied down in a bright room- gagged but awake. Slowly, painfully, wings grew from your back. It felt like someone was ripping your bones or with their bare hands. You didn’t know how long it was until you were back in a cell, bloody and disoriented. You didn’t get a chance to process the new appendages before they started poking you again. Slowly your body changed, feeling wrong. They needed you to be able to hold the wings so they gave you steroids. They wanted you to see in the air so they tweaked your eyes. All done with viruses made by the infamous Umbrella Corporation.
But today they were late. The punctual scientists that came every day were not in your cell. Maybe it was Christmas?
The power goes out. The emergency lights turned on- basking the sterile room in an uncomfortable red light.
“Attention all staff. Please stay where you are and await further instruction.” The calming robot voice over the intercom must have not been convincing because there was immediate chaos outside the lab doors. You heard screams, running- and something or somethings silencing the screams one by one. Luckily, the lockdown locked you in- and whatever it was out.
The building went quiet quickly. Now you could only hear breathing and the occasional crunch. It was hours before the breathing turned to gurgling.
Then there was nothing. No gurgling, no breathing- no life. The lights flickered back on. You stood up, your wings dragging against the floor. Coming to the glass of your cell you finally look at the big doors that kept everything out of the lab room. There was blood coming in under them. Looking around you came to the conclusion that there was nothing for you to do. You didn’t even have a toilet in your cell. So you decided to wait. Hopefully you could die out fast like all the failed experiments.
A click. You heard it, somewhere outside your lab something clicked. Metal? No, a boot. Kicking something. You heard it roll. Someone was in the building and based on the smooth steps that someone was normal. Probably.
“Hunnigan everything here is already dead. A short shelf life I guess.” A man’s voice passed through the door as he walked through what you assumed was a hallway of corpses now. “Can you open this door? It’s still sealed…” There was a tap on the door to your lab. Getting up from your little corner you lean on the glass once more, trying to see if it’s a scientist- or one of the company's guards.
The door slid open and there stood a man. He was too casual for a guard- but also too geared up to be a scientist. He had dark brown hair and the bluest eyes you’ve ever seen. On another note- he was too hot to work at this lab.
Being one of the only things in the lab his eyes landed on your cell instantly. You hear his breath quicken and the twitch of his hand to his gun makes you step back.
“I’m alive- I can talk.” Your voice cracked, rough from not talking for a long time. You almost said ‘I’m human,’ but it felt like you couldn’t say that anymore. Not like you were now.
“Oh what the fuck…” The man breathed, running a hand down his face. “Hunnigan- there’s someone in here. Alive.” He walked up to your cell slowly. “No, not civilian or an employee.” He suddenly stopped when your wings came into view. You saw his face pale and his breath caught.
“That…” He didn’t speak, clearly going through a checklist on your appearance and threat. “That complicates this…” He said quietly.
“Can you help me?” You put a hand on the glass. “Please, I can’t stay here they’ll-” The mad turned away before you could plead anymore (thank god because that was embarrassing.)
“Hunnigan, he's mutated.” He started speaking- his finger on some sort of earpiece. “Yeah. Significantly. They’re… wings. No, they're big. Fully developed” You’d never actually looked at the things that had grown out of you. You had a feeling that you’d throw up if you actually looked at them. You saw them in reflections sometimes. Big black wings that towered behind you. It all felt like a dream sometimes… “Okay. copy.” There was a small beep and the handsome man turned back to you.
“So…” You looked at him, suddenly remembering you were naked. Not a good first impression…
“What’s your name?” He asked, coming back to the cell. You tell him and his lips tighten- guess that was a name he was looking for. “Listen… There’s a crew coming in soon to clean this up. I was just a scout- finding anything sensitive before they ruined it. They’ll take you into custody and evacuate you when they get here.” He went quiet.
“And?”
“You’ll get more done to you. You’ll never be normal again. If you want- You don’t have to get evacuated. I could end it before that happens.” You knew what he meant. He was offering you an easy out. He could just shoot you in the head and you’d never need to get injected with stuff again. Or you could wait and go with whoever this guy was with. Who was this guy?
“Okay, who are you and who is coming?” You finally asked.
“I’m Leon. The BSAA is coming in thirty minutes to clear this out. They will take you into custody.” He replied. It sounded like he’d said it before.
“Do you trust them…?” He thought for a minute.
“This team is led by someone I know very well. I trust him.” Leon finally replied. His eyes definitely softened when he said that.
“Okay. I’ll wait for them… Thank you for the option though.” He nodded.
“I’ll wait with you.” Leon walked to the door, closing it before you could actually look out at the mess in the hall.
“Thank you Leon.” You felt butterflies in your stomach. Not the cute ones- the kind before you threw up. Luckily you didn’t actually throw up. You were already embarrassed enough as it was… You watched Leon sit in a chair at a desk, turning on the computer.
You sat back down in the corner of your cell, letting your wings close around you as you waited.
