Work Text:
The soft sound of pitter-patter can be heard growing steadily louder as multiple raindrops bounced repeatedly onto the window. It was a seemingly gloomy day, but not to the students, especially for Merlin who was admittedly too keen on skipping classes.
Fortunately, it seems like luck was on their side today, as the class they were supposed to be attending was cancelled as the trip to Skyrealm Forest was deemed too risky to take on during such weather. This leaves Merlin free to spend their time as they please, which they chose to spend with Cyran, with the both of them deciding to spend time together indoors—specifically in Cyran’s dorm—to study.
The pair sat on the cold wooden floor. Scrolls scattered messily around them, scribbles written and drawn all over the notes, and soft murmurs can be heard over chanted spells. It’s clear that Cyran was too deep in his thinking as he hadn't noticed Merlin’s growing discomfort. His thoughts were halted when Merlin laid their head on his shoulder and held his arm—shivering.
“Bored?” Cyran asked.
“No. Just cold.”
Cyran sighed. He raised his right arm uncommittedly while keeping his eyes on his book on his left hand. Merlin perked up, moving closer to lean on Cyran more, but carefully so as to not annoy him any further (Or he’ll change his mind, which Merlin wouldn’t want him to.)
"You're so warm."
"It's not even that cold, Phee."
"Are you embarrassed?" Merlin asked. Cyran's body tensed.
Merlin's right hand trails to Cyran's elbow, pulling his arm that’s not holding a book—closer to their waist. Cyran swallowed his nervousness as Merlin's scent started to fill his senses. The more he started to try and not think about this situation any further, the more he started to feel their body. Seriously, this has been a daily occurrence with the two of them behind closed doors—out of his willingness. Why can't he get used to it?
"I am not."
Merlin knew that was a lie. They can feel his heart beating faster. Merlin moved a bit, deliberately putting their ear in front of his heart. The sound of his heartbeat deafened the sound of the heavy rain. Cyran scoffed. He let go of the book he was holding and let both of his arms sit comfortably on Merlin's waist.
"Let me stay here," Merlin tightened their hold. "Please?"
Merlin knew Cyran would not reject them outright. They had full confidence inside them, despite Cyran’s odd way of showing his affection. Regardless, Merlin’s confidence was reinforced by Cyran, who was already putting his lips on Merlin’s head.
"You should be thanking me for not despising you."
A small smile formed from Merlin's lips. "I love you more, Cyran.”
