Work Text:

“What’s that idiot doing in the living room? It’s fucking midnight,” Hiyuki asks.

She doesn’t bother specifying that Hiruhiko is clinging on to their backs cyclically, one night each – Chihiro’s, then Hakuri’s, then hers – and he’d usually be here by now. She doesn’t want them to think she keeps track of the rotation and it’s her night to have his stupidly cold limbs glued to her ass. They’d be wrong anyway.

“He doesn’t want to come to bed,” Chihiro says, laying down on his side of the bed again. “He thinks you’re mad at him.”

“So what? I’m always mad at him,” Hiyuki shrugs.

“Exactly.”

What.” Hiyuki asks, annoyed. “Speak.”

“You shouldn’t be so hard on him. One can only be told he’s not wanted so many times before he starts to believe it,” Chihiro says, leaving her more confused than before.

“What the fuck are you talking about? He doesn’t think I don’t want him,” Hiyuki is sure of that. That’s just a game they like to play, there’s no way Hiruhiko hasn’t realized that. It’s just what they do.

“You asked me to speak, and I did. Do what you want with that,” Chihiro turns his back to her. “Goodnight.”

She stares at the ceiling in the dark, trying to connect her thoughts. He can’t possibly think she doesn’t want him. She’s mean to him sometimes, she perfectly knows that, but it’s how they’ve been from the start. He always bites back because that’s just what they do. Right?

Well, to be fair it’s kinda become boring lately, because Hiruhiko doesn’t bite back as much anymore. She thought he just lost his touch…

She wishes she could ask Hakuri, but he’s been asleep for an hour now, also giving her his back.

She sighs and sits up. This needs to be fixed.

She slips in the living room barefoot. Hiruhiko is laying on the couch upside-down, playing that stupid puppies videogame. Half of his hair is splayed on the floor.

“What are you doing?” she says stupidly, sitting on the couch next to him. Just an excuse to start the conversation quietly.

“Playing Nintendogs.” He doesn’t even move the console from his face.

Hiyuki places her hand on his chest, flat, petting it slowly just to feel his heartbeat under her fingers, and maybe to soothe him with the massage-like motion of her hand.

“You’ve been playing for hours. You should come to bed. Hakuri’s sleeping like a log, but Chihiro will wake up if you get to bed too late,” she says. He probably won’t listen to her, but maybe if she makes it about his favorite, he will.

Or not, she thinks as she sees him shrug.

“I’m sleeping here tonight.”

“No you’re not-” she bites her tongue, before the irritation gets the best of her.

This is pissing her off. He won’t even move that supid videogame out of his face and spare her a look.

She shuts her eyes for a second, exhaling deeply to collect all the patience she owns, which is not a lot, but she tries.

She gets upside-down next to him, and it’s stupid how the room immediately feels completely different, like they’re in another place, just the two of them, when she knows it’s still their living room. (Well, Chihiro’s.)

She moves his DS out of the way to get a better look at him, and have his attention so that they can talk it out better.

“Come to bed,” she says, staring into his eyes. Decisive.

He turns to look at the ceiling, probably because he’s too scared to find out that what he’s going to say it’s true.

“I thought you didn’t want me there,” he says, extending his arm toward the ceiling.

“That’s bullshit,” she says. “I never said that.”

“You said that you didn’t want to see my ugly face,” he mimics her, retreating his harm to his chest like he’s trying to protect himself, which stings a bit.

“That was hours ago! You pissed me off and I was just tired of bickering with you!” she explains.

Hiruhiko stares at her like he doesn’t believe her.

“We always do that, it’s just how we are with each other. That doesn’t mean I don’t want you sleeping in our bed, you idiot,” she gives up on talking sweetly to him. It’s just not how she is.

She grabs his chin, though, and makes sure he’s looking at her this time.

“Listen. I know I’m a bitch sometimes,” she starts, but he makes a face, so she backtracks. “Okay, fine, most of the time. Whatever. But, Hiko… I never mean it. Not once. No matter how stupid and mean I get, I’m always gonna want you in that bedroom with us. And no one can kick you out, anyway.”

Hiruhiko gives her the smallest nods, but he keeps looking at her with the face of a kicked puppy, and it makes her feel like shit.

“Why that face? Stop,” she says. “Give me a kiss.”

“Shouldn’t you be the one to kiss me?” He sniffs, scrunching his nose like a little kid with a snotty nose.

“You’re doing this on purpose, oh my god,” she says, not dealing well with the forlorn look and all that. “Come here.”

She rolls over and kisses his mouth once, but with no intention of stopping. This is going to look so cringe and pathetic and she doesn’t care one bit if it’s what brings Hiruhiko back to her bed. She kisses his lips, and his cheeks, and his eyes, his eyebrows, temples, forehead, then the tip of his nose, his chin, his lips again, feeling the sadness slipping away kiss after kiss under her lips.

She kisses his mouth once again.

“Give me one,” she says, just to win once.

He hums in consideration.

“What? I gave you like thirty. You can give me one, you spoiled little shit,” she squints at him, holding him closer with a hand at his nape. Nose to nose. “Hurry. Kiss me. I want to go to bed.”

He gives in and tilts his head to the side, sliding their lips together. Hiruhiko slips his tongue in her mouth, and it’s everything she wanted. She sucks on it briefly, touching it with her own, slowly, savoring, craving.

They part with a little wet smacking sound.

“You’re mine. I might tell you a lot of mean shit, but I want you in my bed always,” she says once again. “Got it?”

He nods, this time more firmly, but it’s not enough.

“Words, Hiruhiko.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“That’s what I thought. Get this cute little butt in my bed, then.” She physically pulls him up with her, finally leaving the couch. “It’s late. I want to sleep, and I want to be spooned.”

He smiles to himself at the admission, then he gasps at the realization.

“Don’t even bother trying telling them, you have no proof and they won’t believe you,” she says.

“But you said it!” he says, already glued to her back as they approach the bedroom.

“Hush now, they’re sleeping,” she whispers.

They climb on the bed, getting in the middle where there’s enough space for both of them. They try being as quiet and unperceivable as possible as they fall into their favorite position, so as not to disturb Chihiro and Hakuri’s sleep.

“I heard that,” Hakuri says.

“Me too,” Chihiro follows.

She feels exposed, and if this happened a few months ago she might have freaked out at the idea of letting them all see her softer side. But now, she barely gives a damn.

“I don’t know what you two are talking about,” she brushes it off. “I thought you were sleeping, Hakuri.”

“Nope. I was just giving you the cold shoulder. But I see there’s no reason to, anymore,” he says, content. Little thing can be an asshole too when he wants, huh? Fine.

“Love you, Kuri,” Hiruhiko says.

“Love you, Hiko.”

“You guys are sickening.”

“Okay, time to sleep,” Chihiro decides, probably to avoid another argument.

“Goodnight, Chihiro.”

God, not this again.

“Goodnight, Hiruhiko.”

They do this every night.

“Goodnight, Hakuri.”

“Goodnight, Hiruhiko.”

Whatever, she’ll only endure this today, because she’s an exceptional girlfriend and she has something to apologize for.

“Goodnight, Hiyuki.”

“Goodnight, princess.”

Hiruhiko squeezes her to his chest, close, tight, and Hiyuki can finally rest.
