The Superman Effect.

Summary:

Herman finally gave into his grandmother's pleas about him finding a partner. Setting up an account with hope for a long term relationship, he soon found his new boyfriend. He was handsome and incredibly sweet to him, if not a little cocky. Who knew he’d fall for a hunk named Chad?

Chad was fed up with Alice insisting he settle down and get into an actual relationship with their new status as celebrity heroes. Setting up an account with the hope for a long term relationship, he soon found his new boyfriend. He was adorable and incredibly kind, if not a bit awkward. Who knew he’d fall for a twink named Herman?

Somehow, after the Shroud incident and everyone getting closer, Flambae still hated Waterboy and Waterboy still feared Flambae. Z-Team can’t help but feel rage baited as Chad stares through rectangle glasses and Herman beyond locks of flowing brown hair and they still don’t know who the other is. They both can’t be so stubborn and stupid, can they?

Chapter Text

The Z-Team lounged in a new bar. Prism and Flambae had found it and said it served great drinks. So far, that was true. The drinks were strong and everyone was having a good time. Well, except for Waterboy and Flambae. Waterboy was shrinking in on himself, trying to take up as little space as possible next to the pissy Flambae.

“You’re getting me all wet, Bitchboy! I have a date to go on after this!” Flambae huffed as the side jeans and his black leather jacket got increasingly more wet the closer he was.

“S-sorry! I-I’m just n-ner-nervous…” Waterboy fiddled with a large, black purse that was sitting in his lap.

“Ugh! Whatever!” Flambae scoffed and stood up. “I’m going outside for some fresh air. I’ll be back in a sec.”

Robert sighed. No matter what he did, he couldn’t get them to be civil. It was starting to impact the team in ways he didn’t quite think of before. It was starting to give him a headache. He thought he should probably console Waterboy before he takes it to heart.

Prism was more than pissed at Flambae. Sometimes she believed that Flambae’s skull was as thick as his ass. She likes Waterboy. Hell, everyone likes Waterboy except for his stupid ass. Prism was ready to stand up and chase after him to beat some sense into his tiny brain.

Before anything could happen, Waterboy's phone rang with one of the default sounds within the device. He pulled it out of his purse and lit up brighter than anything Prism could conjure up.

“Ch-Chad!” He was extremely giddy and giggling lightly as he answered the phone.

Prism snapped her eyes over to Waterboy as he put the phone up to his ear and began to shimmy his way out of the seat to talk privately with the man on the phone. After Robert revealed himself as Mechaman to the team, Flambae had fucked off before anyone had the chance to know his name, so only Prism really knew it. Of course, there were many Chads, just like how there were many Herman’s and one just so happened to be dating her bestie. She’s always had her suspicions though.

She could hear him as he slunk into the men’s bathroom. “W-when do you p-plan on p-picking me up for our d-date?… —O-oh! W-what a coin-coincidence! I’m a-at the same p-pl—b-bar!—“

Prism didn’t hear much else. After a minute, she went back to scrolling on her phone before it buzzed.

Looking up from her phone, Prism saw Chad making his way back over to the table, his hair let out from its usual, low pony tail. Holding his hand was Herman, and, yeah, that was one hundred percent Waterboy. His hair was long and brighter against the black wetsuit, metal shirt, and baggy jeans that he had changed into at some point. Chad had shown her some photos earlier and she’d chalked up his wetness to the fact that all of the photos were beach or pool photos. Her suspicions were completely confirmed with how he looked now.

Chad sat Herman down and kissed his temple. “I’ll go get us some drinks. You just sit here and look pretty.”

Herman smiled wide and looked at him with nothing but adoration in his half lidded eyes. “Th-Thank you!”

“Herman.” Robert put a hand on Herm’s shoulder. “If you’re being forced into anything, you can always tell me and I can help you get out of it.”

Herm looked back with a very confused look on his face. “R-Robert sir… what a-are you talk-talking about?”

Robert paused for a second. “Your… your relationship with Flambae…. That-that’s what I’m talking about.”

“W-with Fla… Robert! N-not every guy f-from Afghanistan i-is Flam-Flambae!”

“K-Kid, no, no th-that’s not…”

“That bitch is stupid…” Prism muttered to herself as she got up. “I’ll go talk to Flambae, see what’s going through his head…”

Prism leaned against the bar counter while Chad tapped his fingers idly. “So, Waterboy, huh?”

He looked over at her. “What the fuck are you talking about?”

“Bitch! You’re dating Waterboy! What else would I mean?” Prism threw her hands up and let them slap down on her thighs.

“Waterboy? I wouldn’t date that fucker if he was the last man on planet fucking Earth! Herman is one hundred times hotter than Wetwipeboy and I’m insulted that you think I’d stoop to such abysmal levels.” Chad looked back over at Herman who was talking to a confused looking Robert and Z-Team.

“Bitch! He sweats water! Who else does that?”

“What, so all water elementals are the same? As much as I hate to admit it, a good amount of supers have elemental powers, they just vary slightly. Hell, Hermie's grandma has ice powers or so he’s told me.”

“Stop being so fucking dense!”

“I’m not! You just can’t tell the difference between two ginger twinks!”

“That is not—! Ugh! You’re impossible!” Prism promptly gives up, stomping back to the table.

“—is nothing like Flambae! H-he’s so sweet a-and handsome and he-he always talk—l-listens to me when I vent a-and he’s just… a-amaz—I-incredible.” Is all Prism heard as she looks over at Robert who has thoroughly given up.

Some of the Z-Team is still questioning Herman as Chad comes back with two drinks and sets the very colorful looking cocktail in front of him. “You know, you look prettier in person, Hermie.”

Herman lightly giggles into his cocktail as the very blatant comment that was given to him. “I-I could say th-the same about you!”

“You know, I can take you out on our date a little early. Just you, and me, and that beautiful, pearl-like shine in your eyes. Or I can take you back to my place and see where the night takes us. Maybe both?” Chad smiles and licks his teeth.

Herman’s face shines a deep, rhubarb red as he hides behind his cocktail glass. A few times, it tinks against his rectangular glasses as he does so.

“Oh, come on, Baby. Don’t hide from me.” Chad's voice has a sharp, lustful edge to it.

“Okay, I think that’s enough.” Robert sips his whiskey in single.

“What he means is, get a god damn room. I think you’re both more than ready for that date that Chad's been squealing about all week.” Prism lightly swirls her own drink.

“Oh, come on, Alice, you’re making me sound soft! Save it until we’ve been together for at least a year! I still need to be at my best for my boyfriend!” Chad chuckles and rubs Herm's side, making steam fill up the booth.

“Leave before you and your new bae start sucking face!”

“Fine! Fine! We’re leaving! I’ll see you all at work!”

A few voices wished them farewell before it was back to how it was before. Prism and Robert were now sitting next to each other and became the ones moping. Confusion rippled through them as they thought. How could they be so fucking stupid?

Notes:

Sorry that the part where their texting looks weird, I copy and pasted it directly from what I originally wrote it as so I don’t know why it looks like that or how to fix it. If you have any tips, I’d appreciate it! Thank you!
