Chapter Text

Blossom

Can somebody help…?

That afternoon.

She was just singing and everything went pink.

Her typical chorus class of the day. It was Thursday, and they were preparing for the Townsville Winter parade which comes up in a month and she and the ‘Townsville High Sweethearts’ are supposed to perform with the high school band on the school float. The ‘Sweethearts’ are the lead vocals of the chorus-a pet name given from the school directly to the small group of 5 girls.

Clad in their school uniforms of light brown and white plaid skirts, thigh high white stockings, and a white button up top (school dress code for ladies) were the Townsville High Sweethearts: Robin, Jewel, Pearl, Ruby, and of course-Blossom.

Blossom kept her red hair tied up with a red ribbon, her ponytail was a little shorter (it became a hassle during crime fighting,) but still reached her waist. She wasn’t as tall as her group, a little shorter than normal humans being designed for stealth-around 5’2” same as her sister’s.

Robin looked basically the same with big blue eyes and long brown hair pulled back in a light brown headband.

Pearl and Ruby were twins, beautiful dark skinned girls with Ruby’s hair pulled back in braids and Pearl’s hair pulled back in two poofy buns-it was the only way Blossom could tell them apart.

Jewel was a gorgeous girl of Asian heritage with long black hair that flowed down her back and a light brown bow above her left ear.

Blossom, now a senior, has been singing since Freshmen year and she was very good at it-in fact, the sweethearts were formed due to her unique 4-octave vocal range/mezzo soprano or “sweetheart” voice as they so called it.

She liked that name or…didn’t mind it at least. It reminded her of someone else who also called her that

She shook her head at that thought. Blushing a little. She did not want that person in her head at the moment.

Ugh…stop it Blossom…

She felt free when she sang, like a bird in the wind or a mermaid at sea, which is why she devoted so much time to her little clique. She was hoping to use this talent to her benefit and earn a scholarship at Townsville University, where she would perform on the side and major in Science. Her goal was to earn a PhD in Medical Science.

She always entranced her audience of the music class during practice, but this day-something was off.

In the middle of her song, the air around her felt hazy and pink with sparkles of dust seeming to shimmer throughout the haze. The Sweetheart’s were still dancing and singing back up, but a little more into it than usual.

The audience started slowly walking forward-glowing pink pupils present in their eyes. Blossom ended her song and the audience of classmates stopped walking forward and all with a dreamy expression on their faces including her teachers and fellow sweethearts.

”Uhh…thank you?” She muttered into the microphone, confused as the pink haze slowly dissipates.

”Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you…” the entire audience was chanting in a dreamy expression. Despite the haze fading, they were obviously under some kind of hypnotic spell.

“Okay, you can stop now…” They immediately stopped chanting. Blossom started to panic. She noticed the room turning pink mid song, but didn’t stop because she was loving the attention a lot more than usual-something new as well. Even though she loved being the center of attention, this time it was very awkward.

She slowly looked around the room and at the sweethearts with the rest of the chorus group-all having glowing rose-gold pink pupils still. The same color as Blossom’s eyes.

Oh God…what did I do?

She started gently shaking Pearl.

“Girls? Girls?” Are you with me? GIRLS?”

The Sweethearts just stared at her almost like awaiting a command. Just entranced all dreamy expressions present.

It’s like they’re sleep walking or something…

”Sleep?” She thought out loud and without warning, the entire class including the Sweethearts collapsed to the ground-many classmates snoring.

”OH GOD!” She screamed. She immediately hit her watch which was also a tele-communicator for her sister’s, the Professor, and City Hall HOTLINE emergencies.

Her sister’s popped up on screen that projected their person onto a hologram.

”What’s wrong?” Bubbles asked, obviously outside in her cheerleading outfit of white and glittery tan that shimmered in the sunlight. She must be at practice. Bubbles’ long shoulder length blonde pigtails twirled a little at the end as she cocked her head to the side in a worried state.

Can somebody help?

“I need help, something’s happened at Music Hall!” Blossom said in a panic.

Buttercup chimed in, tossing back her shoulder length black hair away from her face. She looked slightly annoyed to be interrupted.

“Be there in a flash.” She scoffed. She was in her gym uniform from what Blossom could see.

In a literal flash, her sisters came through the door to find the class sprawled out on the floor, obviously asleep.

”What on earth happened?” Buttercup asked, Picking up a snoring Mitch Mitchelson’s hand and dropping it. He was a guitar major and one of her friends.

Blossom explained the situation frantically while shaking Robin; trying to wake her up. She even thought to say “wake up,” but that also failed.

Bubbles was assessing the teachers and listening to Miss. Melody (Blossom’s chorus instructor) snore slightly.

“They’re obviously asleep and they have a pulse. They don’t appear harmed.” Bubbles said with confusion on her face.

Blossom grew desperate and frantic, so she clapped twice in Robin’s face.

That worked.

The entire audience woke up from the double clap. They all seemed to have a mild headache and memory loss of Blossom’s song.

“What happened? Why are we all on the floor?” The audience, her friends, and the teachers slowly rose rubbing their heads. All asking similar questions.

Blossom looked at her sister’s and the audience of confused classmates. She had a quick idea to get them all out of the situation before more unanswerable questions could be asked.

She didn’t really know if it would make sense or not, but she just blurted out:

”DOES ANYONE SMELL GAS?”

She slapped her head, but it seemed to have worked. Everyone wore alert expressions around the room as soon as she shouted that.

Her sister’s looked at her in awe that she’d lie like that.

Blossom hated lying.

The teachers looked horrified. The cafeteria wasn’t far away and the school wasn’t exactly new so who knows where all the pipes went to.

Blossom felt like a total ass, but it was paying off.

“Evacuate the school, we need to call 911 and the gas company. We need to have the school checked for gas leaks.” Miss. Melody said frantically as she called the Principle.

The entire school was dismissed with sirens surrounding the building and the entrances blocked off. Kids were being picked up from the sidewalk outside.

The Sweethearts and Powerpuff girls were standing off school grounds looking at the school awkwardly.

Blossom and her sisters knew the story was complete bullshit.

A gas leak? That’s really concerning.” Jewel stated while rubbing her neck, which was still sore from the collapse.

”At least we are done for the day. Do y'all want to go to the mall or something?” Ruby asked the group. She and her sister loved the mall.

Blossom looked at her sister’s knowingly. They looked back with cocked eyebrows.

Buttercup was still clearly annoyed and in her white and tan gym tank top and long shorts. She hated being interrupted during ROTC, Basketball Practice, or anything gym related really.

“Sorry ladies. We need to get home, we need to go ahead and…prepare for patrols.” She kinda lied.

Ugh…

They didn’t patrol until 8pm and they did it individually during weekday evenings. Tonight was Buttercup’s turn if no calls came through.

It was near the end of the school day anyway when the incident occurred. Blossom looked at her watch.

Yep, already 3pm.

School usually got out at 3:15pm.

Robin glanced at the girls. “Okay, well can you keep us updated? I’m sure you will hear about the school’s update before we do.”

Blossom sighed with slight annoyance.

Or you can just check social media…

Bubbles nodded. “I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re closed tomorrow just to be safe.

Buttercup scoffed, “Well there goes my basketball game.” She said obviously frustrated.

Buttercup loved sports and even though she wasn’t allowed to use her powers she found it a fun way to compete with normal humans.

She was also a member of ROTC. She had a dream of working for The TPD and becoming Sheriff someday.

Blossom looked down and pulled out her cell phone from her little red backpack.

“Just check the school’s social media. It’s already been updated about the gas leak and stated that school is likely to reopen Monday.” She said simply, and turned her phone to the group to show the school’s alert.

All girls nodded in silence.

Shortly after, the twins were picked up; followed by Robin, and then Jewel. Robin was still their neighbor, but she didn’t walk with the girls- thankfully today especially. The Powerpuff girls started slowly floating home.

Bubbles peered at an uneasy Blossom who looked down at her feet while they hovered.

“Blossom? What do you think happened?”

Blossom’s face saddened a bit. “I think…my singing voice has changed…it started sounding different and…something happened in the middle of the song and…well you know the rest.

Buttercup acknowledged how upset Blossom was and softened her expression.

“I’m sure the professor will have answers, let’s get home so he can run some tests. He texted already. He already knows the school closed early and the basic the jist of your situation.” Buttercup said simply.

”You already told him?” Blossom asked a little annoyed. She would have rather been the one to tell The Professor.

”Yeah through text. I said you may have a new power and he’s setting up the simulation chamber to run some tests.” Buttercup shrugged. “I had to tell him something.”

Bubbles turned to Blossom with a supportive face.

”Blossom it’ll be okay, I’m sure it’s no different than our usual tests.” Bubbles assured.

Bubbles was wrong.

When they got home Blossom immediately changed out of her uniform. She threw on a simple red pencil skirt and red and pink top. She left her thigh highs on since she wasn’t planning to fight crime at the moment…she just wanted out of that stiff uniform. This was also her “go to” look.

Immediately after she was in a simulation chamber.

The Professor hasn’t changed much.

He had gotten older and had a few bags under his eyes and some grey in his hair, but he still dressed the exact same and smoked his trusty pipe.

The Professor had Blossom hooked up with wires and sound and audio devices on the opposite side of the thick soundproof glass; facing the Professor and all of his computer’s and gadgets.

He also had a one way speaker where he could safely push a button to speak to Blossom and give her instructions. If she needed him, she’d give a hand signal and he’d come speak to her.

He couldn’t hear her and that was the point.

Since Blossom had caused her class to completely collapse during her song, he had to ensure his and her sister’s safety.

However, he could watch the vocals react on the monitor.

She was asked to sing. Simulated Monsters surrounded her. No one could hear her voice, but they were able to see her through the soundproof glass.

They noticed the pinkness of her eyes glowing brightly, then the monster’s eyes changed to pink, matching hers immediately after. As soon as their eyes glowed, they all stopped in their tracks.

She muttered the word “sleep” like she did with her class, and all immediately fell to the floor. Sound asleep.

“Go ahead and clap” the Professor’s voice rang out from the speaker.

Since it worked before, Blossom clapped twice. As soon as she did, they instantly woke up; groggily and shaking their heads, but free of their sleep spell.

“Sing again and put them back to sleep.” The Professor said through the speaker in a serious tone.

Blossom obeyed and again muttered “sleep.”

Instantly the monster’s fell.

“Now leave them. I want to see if they wake up on their own. This could be a while.” The Professor said in a studious manner.

That evening.

Three hours passed.

Blossom just sat there in the simulation room bored and lost in thought as The Professor appeared to be typing on his computer and running through his research.

It was a very long and boring wait.

She noticed she was getting hungry, but was too concerned with her new power to think much about eating. The Professor didn’t leave or eat either. Her sisters probably already ate, but she to the situation it was probably sandwhich night anyway.

She decided to digest her thoughts instead.

There was so much to be concerned with.

If this was a permanent issue, how will she be able to return to normal? How is she supposed to sing again without affecting others?

She couldn’t help but obsess over the thought that she may not be able to continue on as the ‘Lead Sweetheart’ if she couldn’t find a way to control this.

It terrified her.

If this was her new normal. Her goals were threatened.

Her passion for singing with the group of girls she’s grown to love over these years as a second sister group, her scholarship possibility, letting the school down for the ‘Winter Parade’ that would be approaching soon…so many concerning thoughts passed through her head at once.

Then she noticed a monster stirring. Following a second, third, and then the rest.

They were finally waking up on their own without her interference.

The room went white signaling the test was over, and The Professor turned the simulator off with a hum; giving Blossom permission to exit the room.

FINALLY…

Blossom came out and met her sisters who have also both changed by now.

Bubbles was in a light blue top with lace sleeves and dark blue pencil skirt and Buttercup in a lime green tank top and black tight jeans and sneakers.

These were also their “go to” looks.

Bubbles offered Blossom a sandwhich, which she took-but didn’t bite into right away.

She wanted, no, needed to hear the results.

The Professor smiled warmly.

“Relax Blossom. It isn’t the end of the world. You have a new power that has awakened.” He said calmly, trying to assure her to relax and failing at it.

Blossom didn’t look amused.

Although, she was a little proud that she once again surpassed her sisters with a new power they didn’t possess, she was still concerned.

This was her future they were talking about, this was different than her Ice breath ability.

The Professor continued.

“Have you ever heard of a Siren?”

Bubbles and Buttercup looked at Blossom, her eyes wide in shock.

Yes. Yes she has.

Sedusa came out as one.

Oh…God.

”You’re kidding right?” Blossom asked. A look of disgust on her face.

The professor only shook his head with a serious face.

“Are you talking about the Greek mythological dangerous, singing and seductive woman meant to lead her victims to doom? Like Sedusa?? Are you saying that’s what this power is? Bubble’s asked, not making Blossom feel any better after that definition.

Thanks Bubbles…I feel SOO much better now…

Blossom was in denial and annoyed. She couldn’t possibly be a Siren. Sedusa was evil, they must all be evil.

“That’s ridiculous! That sounds like a power a villain would possess!” She choked out. Worry and anger evident in her voice.

Buttercup snickered and Blossom glared at her.

”So miss everything nice is becoming the next Sedusa?” Buttercup joked. “Sounds naughty to me.”

She laughed.

Blossom didn’t.

The Professor shot Buttercup a stern look and continued,

“I can understand your concern due to Sedusa also holding Siren abilities, but I can assure you this power is not malevolent. It’s a special gift. It depends on how you use it. She chose evil actions and in your case you choose good. However, there is a difference in your power compared to hers…”

Blossom looked up at him with concern.

”Your power is still developing, there is something hidden that I cannot quite process yet. It’s in your vocal data. Looks like a few things are in there I still need to study. It appears more power resides, but it still has to be unlocked…I’ll have to study it further.”

Okay, what the hell does that mean…? Blossom thought.

“Your voice has also changed in octaves. It’s more “breathy.” Your vocal octaves have changed during this power. They are now 2-2.5 range with airy whisper qualities. Don’t worry, this isn’t permanent. Once you control your song you will have 2 different voices when you sing. Siren Activated and Normal. I’d suggest not singing until I can go into my research further to find out what the hidden quality is in your data. Sedusa was able to mind control, as are you-but I haven’t been able to study her abilities either.” He stated in facts.

Okay, and HOW do I control it?

”How do I control this Professor?” She asked eagerly.

That still needs to be studied. As soon as I have the answer I promise you will be the first to know.”

Thanks dad. Super helpful…

Blossom thought about what the professor said.

Comparing her to Sedusa sickened her, even though the temptress gave up her ways (for the most part) and opened a Burlesque down in the darker parts of Townsville, she’s stayed quiet mostly, although she was far from considered ‘reformed’. They haven’t fought her in years.

Her Burlesque seemed suspicious, although The Police could never find anything.

Blossom still didn’t trust her.

Before Blossom could agree or disagree with The Professor’s suggestion to not use her singing voice until he studied her vocal data further; the three girl’s watches suddenly beeped red.

This was their HOTLINE Emergency alert from the Mayor.

Blossom answered.

”Mayor Bellum, what seems to be the trouble?”

The original Mayor was in a nursing home at this point, still alive and still obsessed with pickles. He had developed dementia and Miss Bellum took over his position after quickly being elected in.

“Girls, there is a disturbance at Townsville High School. There was an explosion. The responding officers of TPD have been injured and the gas inspector was sent to the hospital. We had to evacuate the team due to safety concerns especially if there is still a gas leak. We don’t want to further expose the staff. Girls, this looks like the work of The Rowdyruff Boys.” Mayor Bellum said with a voice full of concern.

Sigh…

Oh, boy. Those guys.

The Rowdyruff Boys.

Annoying and still MEAN as hell.

The girls haven’t seen them in a few months after they stopped them robbing a Pawn Shop.

Staying quiet these days was becoming more common for them, however the girls would still find themselves responding to petty crimes especially with graffiti, stealing, loitering, and breaking and entering.

The boy’s no longer blew stuff up or caused harm to the citizens in that manner (or so Blossom thought) but they were still a nuisance and still had no problem fighting the girls.

They still found that entertaining.
Or incredibly annoying.

They didn’t go to school with the girls or else they’d be seniors like them, which is to bad cause they had potential if they’d stop being jackasses.

Blossom wouldn’t admit it, but even though they were a pain in the ass to deal with, she still enjoyed a good brawl with them.

She liked a good challenge.

Especially with Brick the Rowdyruff leader.

Oh God…Brick…sigh…

Brick could turn a fight into a debate and loved taking jabs at her ego, to be fair his was way bigger than hers and she had no problem jabbing at his right back.

It was entertaining to see him get fired up at her insults.

He would mainly attack her looks and she would his, making comments on how stupid each other dressed with the occasional dirty joke etc…

Still felt a little elementary, but it was their thing. She enjoyed the looks he gave when he was fired up, angry, insulted or flustered, she found all his facial expressions really attractive…

Okay…where the hell did that come from? Seriously Blossom?? I really need to stop thinking of him like that…it’s getting out of hand…

“Blossom?”

”Blossom?”

Blossom? Hello???”

She snapped out of it. Miss Bellum, Bubbles, and Buttercup were calling her name.

“Huh? Oh my gosh, I’m sorry I spaced out for a second…yes Mayor, we are on it.” She hung up.

”Blossom you should eat that sandwhich already...” Bubbles said as she gestured to the sandwhich still in Blossom’s hand.

Oh right, sorry.” She took a bite. “Let’s go girls.”

Get out of your head Blossom…

Buttercup chimed in.

”Shouldn’t we suit up?”

Blossom shook her head.

”Sounded urgent, we don’t have time for that. What we have on should be fine. We used to fight them in dresses.”

“Yeah before puberty…” Buttercup retorted making Bubbles laugh and Blossom roll her eyes.

“Let’s go. We shouldn’t stall any longer.” Blossom said simply.

One last “be careful” came from the professor before the girls headed out the door and into the sky ready to face their counterpart chaos.

Blossom needed the distraction anyway. The Siren Song had her mind swimming. A good fight and debate with Brick actually sounded shockingly pleasant right now.

Even though he is just as distracting…

Notes:

“Help” Isabel LaRosa
“Mean” Taylor Swift

I wrote this story from hearing the song ‘Help’ from Isabel LaRosa. The song is the struggle Blossom and Brick will face through this journey. Look it up, it’s very Blossick if you listen closely.

Blossom sounds like a mixture of Christina Aguilera and Sia when she sings normally, and Taylor Swift and Madonna when she is Siren activated.

Her regular voice is more Christina and her Siren voice is more like Melanie Martinez.

Music is a huge inspiration for my fanfictions. The female singers I have chose for Blossom, are in my opinion, some of the best female singers out there. These are just my opinions. So I wanted Blossom to have a similar voice to theirs when she is singing.
