Chapter 1: First try and first glimpse

Chapter Text

It was an early day in the Camp Half-blood pavilion with scampering campers all around eating and chattering. Connor had entered, yapping and messing around with Travis when he sat down and spotted a new camper. He had paused his talking when he had caught that glimpse of light passing and reflecting through the camper's blonde hair.

His mouth was slightly agape, eyes also slightly widened as he sat there with his elbow on the table, head lifted up from laying it on his hand.

The young blonde boy raked a hand through his light goldenish curls that were ridiculed with the morning sun’s grasp. Connor stared in awe at the pretty boy, staring at him as the awkward boy fixed his glasses and scooted closer to Annabeth. Ah… Annabeth. That means he’s in the Athena cabin.

Bummer….

Connor squinted, still staring at the boy. What would happen if he tried to befriend him? He doesn't have thattttt many friends and really what is better than befriending a smart kid.

Travis poked his arm and Connor turned his head, gaze lingering on that boy for a second longer. “Hm?” Travis eyes were squinting in a questioning, suspicion filled look. “Watcha lookin at? Is it a girl” Connor groaned in disgust “Ew! No I could never girls are yucky” Travis huffed out a giggle. “Okay bro whatever you say”

“What were you looking at then?” Travis questioned as he tilted his head, eyebrows scrunching in question. “There's a new Athena kid” Connor answered. Travis’ gaze flickered over to the Athena table, searching, his eyes landed on the certain blonde boy. “He’s been here for like a week dude you just noticed him?” Travis said, looking back at Connor with a weird look of dismay.

“Yeah? So? Still never noticed him… gods…” Connor huffed and rolled his eyes before they landed back on the blonde. “Think I could befriend him?” the younger brunette asked, turning back to Travis slowly in a curious, stupid manner. “Nah, he's an Athena kid!… I mean well maybe…. But probably not.” Travis answered his younger brother.

“You don't believe in me? Wow I am absolutely heart broken Travis!” Connor exclaimed in an extravagant, extra and dramatic manner, slamming a hand on his own chest and clutching his shirt in false dismay. Travis huffed, smirking and rolling his eyes. “Well go on then! We must see the infamous Connor Stoll shoot his shot.”

Connor smirked in almost a known, cocky triumph.

The brunette stood, walking over to the Athena table, an overly cocky and excited feeling shot through his veins as he made his way through the maze of tables to the blonde boy he had been admiring minutes ago.

The mysterious boy looked up slowly, a slight fear and confused look gracing his face. His eyes dipped inwards slightly, eyes squinting and looking up to the brunette that was foreign to him… almost (he knew he was trouble from Annabeth's analysis)

Connor almost got lost in his bright sky and cyan eyes, they glared with white highlights that were similar to the night stars he and Travis had watched at night all those times. He composed himself, shaking his head slightly. “Hello! I'm Connor, I uh, just wanted to introduce myself, ya know since you're new and all I just wanted to talk to you cause you seem kinda sticky outy? Ya know you’re kinda awkward and cool.” Connor stopped talking before he could pull out more dumb rambling. Smiling awkwardly down at the blonde.

The mysterious boy looked more annoyed than interested. Annabeth gave a look of disgust as she put a hand on the blonde's shoulder. “This is the part where you respond and tell me your name ya know…?” Connor squeaked out, scratching his head and looking around dramatically.

Malcolm looked up at the boy. This was the troublemaker Annabeth had spoken about so rudely? He was not all that he had been made out to be. Annabeth gripped his shoulder so hard it almost hurt. “Don’t waste your time on him.” Annabeth gestured.

Malcolm glanced at Annabeth, he didn't seem that bad… He decided to listen to Annabeth. He trusts her in everything, really.

Connor's smile faded as she heard Annabeth's remark, replacing it with a look of disdain as he looked at the girl. “I didn't even do anything to you? I wasn't talking to you Annabeth. I was talking to him, wasn't I?” The brunette snapped. The mysterious blonde boy looked between them and turned around. “Hey I was still talking to you!” Connor's voice had softened but his voice was firm. He huffed after a few seconds of no response. He tilted his head down and walked away in failure, back to the Hermes table.

He just wanted to make a friend.

Travis patted him on the back when he sat down. “Pat pat, bro. It ain’t that serious. I believe in you, you can ask him next time.” Travis spoke, attempting to cheer his brother up.

“Whatever” Connor sighed, looking back up slightly to look at the mysterious blonde boy, who was looking at him. The blonde's eyes immediately snapped back to his plate. The brunette's gaze softened as he stared at the boy's hair glinting in the sun.
