Chapter 1
She’s Coming
Many years have passed since the resetting of the timeline. The elemental dragon warriors were victorious that day, banishing the threat of one thousand years of darkness. All of them can still remember how it felt to watch the sun rise over the mountains, and grateful to see another day come.
But like any grand event, time moves on.
The elemental dragons grew within the temple halls.
Omi hit a growth spurt; he was now taller than Kimiko. But sadly, once Raimoundo hit his own growth spurt – Omi was no longer as tall as him. Years of training and discipline had made his form lean but strong, muscles were now defined on his body. Eyes that held youth and energy seem to become sharper and more defined, but those who truly knew Omi would still say they can still see the young man’s determination sparkle in his eyes.
Raimoundo who once shared the same height as Omi, is now much taller. Just like Omi, training had made his muscles more defined, but unlike Omi – his muscles were more noticeable. There was a time when Raimoundo wore his hair long and out, but as he got older, he chose to cut it short. But he is a man who is proud of the beard he has grown, he keeps it trimmed and close cut.
“Can’t let the ladies, loose such rugged good looks.” He would often say when Omi nags him about cutting off his facial hair.
Kimiko grew into a fine young woman, ever the fashionista— her looks would often change to whatever is trending or whatever she felt looked good on her. Thanks to her training, she grew into a shapely form, that most woman would envy. But what grew the most through her years was her mind. She seemed to have taken after her father and gained a tinkerer’s intellect. If she wasn’t teaching her students, shopping for the latest fashion or training, she would more likely be tinkering with the different gadgets that are hidden throughout the temple.
Clay grew into the tallest and biggest of the Dragon Warriors. Like the boys, years of training did gift him with a muscular body, but as his muscles grew so did his appetite and as his appetite grew so did his gut. Many would assume from just a glance at him he was fat but to the train eye, it was clear to see he was muscular with a thick mid-section. Appearance-wise, Clay looked the same as he did when he first joined the motley crew, but just like his father, he grew a mustache that he kept trimmed and groomed.
Teenagers became adults and it wasn’t long before the elemental dragon warriors became the masters of their elements. They all chose to stay at the temple, training and teaching the new generation of monks. Preparing themselves and others for whenever darkness should grow full of itself.
Time continues to march forward and sadly; there was a great loss. Master Fung, the monk and teacher of the elemental dragon warriors had finally passed away. It was a grim day for all as everyone within the temple mourned in their own way.
Clay was silent.
Kimoko wept.
Raimoundo trained.
And Omi… well, he took Master Fung’s death the hardest. Though Master Fung was a teacher to many, he was like a father to Omi, and you only get one of those during a lifetime. Omi stayed in his room for nearly a month before he allowed himself to be vulnerable in front of his fellow warriors. All the dragons comforted the warrior of water showing that he still had his found family.
Gloomy clouds hung over the monastery for a while, but as always, time heals all wounds and sun soon shined through those gray clouds.
Omi is at the age of 28, no longer the round headed child that raced around the temple grounds bragging about his status. Omi is now a master monk of great wisdom and patience, but he still has an ego.
It’s twilight and the temple is calm. The last of the sun's rays paint the sky many hues of warmth. Omi sits within the library of the temple, the candle nearby flickers as his eyes dance over the that lays before him on a table.
He’s re-reading the story of Grand Master Dashi and his defeat of Wuya. It’s a story he always enjoyed. He is almost at the climax when an all-too-familiar voice pulls him from his story.
“There ya are,”
Omi's lifts his gaze and was met with the sight of green scales that shine like emeralds. It’s Dojo in all his serpentine glory.
“I found him!” The dragon calls over his shoulder before slithering his way into the room.
“You have been searching for me?” asks Omi as he rolls up the scroll before him.
“Yeah, I have news for the elemental dragon warriors,” said Dojo with a smile.
Omi watches as the others enter the room. Kimiko walks in first, Raimoundo follows her — hands in his pockets. They both give Omi a smile and a greeting before sitting on the opposite side of the table. Raimoundo crosses his legs and leans back on the palms of his hands, Kimiko takes this as an invitation to lay her head on his lap. The two have always been so relaxed in each other’s company. Omi watches as the two lightly banter, Kimiko giggles and Raimoundo smiles looking down at her.
Omi’s attention is finally pulled away as he feels a shift near him, looking to his right, Clay takes a seat next to Omi. Sitting criss cross like Raimoundo, Clay looks over at Omi and tips his hat.
“Omi, enjoying y’alls scrolls I see.”
Said monk smiles,
“Yes, very much so, you know how much I enjoy my evening readings.”
Clay chuckles,
“Do I ever, so, re-reading or found somethin’ new?”
“A re-reading of one of my favorites.”
“Ah, Grand Master Dashi?”
“Haha, yes.”
Omi always finds it so easy to talk with Clay. Well, it’s more so that Clay is a great listener. It’s not long before Omi finds himself leaning on Clay as the two discuss the many stories of Grand Master Dashi.
The shutting of the library door is enough to stop the chatter among the dragon warriors. All four of the warriors watch as Dojo make his way up and onto the table,
“So, what’s up, Dojo?” Ask Raimundo, “Why’d you wanna talk to all four of us at the same time?”
That’s right, Omi sits up straight, Dojo did mentioned some kind of news. Omi worrys that maybe the peace of the time resetting might be short lived, and a new danger is coming.
But, what could it be?
More Shen Gong Wus, perhaps?
Is Wuya up to something?
Maybe something worse?
“My sister is coming.” Bluntly informs Dojo.
Oh.
“You have a sister?!” Said Raimoundo.
“A little sister, if I could add.” Said Dojo with a chip on his shoulder.
“She's a dragon like you, right?” asks Clay
He might be picturing what Omi is, another small green dragon just like Dojo but feminine. Omi’s brow wrinkles as his imagination gets the best of him. Ugh.
“Yup, but she might be a bit different than me.” Said Dojo.
The tone that dragon said that in, something is going on, should the warriors be wary of it or is this just Dojo making a mountain out of a mole hill. The dragon warriors’ exchange looks and glances amongst themselves, it’s Kimiko who asks the question everyone is thinking.
“Uh. Different how?”
Dojo’s clawed hand tugs at the red whiskers on his chin, his eyes looking down and then up in full contemplation on his answer.
“Well, my sister, she’s the Dragon of the Stars.”
“WHAT?!” Said Omi, his exclamation causes everyone to jump.
All eyes are now on Omi as he holds eye contact with Dojo. Omi eyes were wide and bright; this might have been the same look he held when he was told he was the Dragon Warrior of Water.
“Your sister is THE Dragon of Heavens!?” Asks Omi as beams.
“Well, yeah, that’s one of her titles.” Said Dojo with a shrug.
“The dragon that aided Grand Master Dashi in his creation of the Shen Gong Wus?!”
“Hey, I helped too!”
“Dojo, she’s almost revered as a deity, she has done so much for this world as she travels the starry sky!”
“Okay, here we go, if she heard that, her head is gonna get even bigger than what it is” said Dojo as he rolls his eyes and crosses his arms.
Omi is beside himself with excitement and awe, the other elemental dragon warriors seem to not hold as much of an enthusiasm as Omi. They look more puzzled and confused than anything else.
“Well, pardon us for not sharing in Omi’s excitement,” Said Clay, “Didn’t know you were some kin to some grand dragon like that, Dojo.”
“Ugh, please, at the end of the day, she’s just like yours truly,” Dojo gestures to himself, “Either way, she is looking forward to meeting all of you.”
“That’s very nice and comforting to hear,” Kimiko spoke up, “but, why the sudden visit?”
“Yeah,” Raimoundo adds, “Why would a big shot like her suddenly come down to see us, I mean, the threat of the 1,000 years of darkness has been delt with.”
Dojo, again, grew silent as he contemplated his words. Clawed hand tugging on his whiskers again. He finally speaks when he notices all eyes are on him,
“Look, I think it would be better to explain things when she gets here.”
“Dojo,” Worries Kimiko.
“Now, now, it’s nothing bad, I promise, it’s just,” he pauses as he rubs the back of his neck, “It would be better to have her here too, because if I try to explain it now, it’ll just be confusing.”
“Or y’alls lazy and want yer sister to do all the talkin’.” Clay adds.
Chuckles echo from each warrior as Dojo waves them off and says,
“Look, her visit is important, I just want to give you guys a heads up, okay?”
“We understand.” Said Omi, “Thank you for informing us, tomorrow we will prepare for her.”
“Yeah, hey Dojo, when is your sister gonna get her?” Asks Raimundo.
“Oh, by the next full moon.”
Kimiko quickly sits up from her position. Perhaps too quickly, Raimoundo isn’t fast enough and his shin meets her forehead. Raimoundo lets out a painful groan as he holds his chin — why is she so hardheaded, is all Raimoundo yells in his mind,
“Ah, sorry Rai,” Kimiko rubs her forehead as she looks over Raimoundo, she then brings her eyes to the green dragon, “Dojo, the next full moon is in TWO DAYS!”
“Oh, no wonder she sounded surprise when I agree to her coming on that date.”
“Dojo!” Kimiko scolds the dragon.
Evening soon melts into night, and all the dragon warriors retired to their chambers. Excitement, anxiety and wonder all fill the Warriors’ minds that night. Who would have thought a Dragon from the Heavens would visit their temple. Whatever it is, it seems important. It must be, it’s not every day a heavenly envoy makes their way to earth.
