The first time is just after they start dating but before the sleep together. They are in the apartment and Tim is stretched out on the couch and Lucy has her head on his chest. They are watching some movie that Tim lost track of and instead he’s looking down at Lucy. He is running his fingers through her hair absentmindedly.
“Is this a good movie?” She asks and she sounds sleepy like she hasn’t been paying attention to it at all.
“No idea.” Tim replies. “It could be.” Lucy lets out a laugh, and he looks down at her. He is still in awe that she is his now. They are dating and together. He’s not sure he will ever get used to it.
He knows this is a forever kind of thing and they haven’t even slept together yet. Hell, they haven’t been together that long and he just knows. He just knows that they will be together for a long time.
“I’m tired.” She says. “I’m sorry, this is probably a lousy date night.” But Tim shakes his head, any time with Lucy is good enough for him.
“You are fine Luce.” He says gently and he bends down to give her a kiss. “Just go to sleep.” Lucy doesn’t close her eyes right away, but then she is slowly drifting off to sleep. Tim gives her another kiss and turns the tv on mute.
This is exactly where he needs to be.
Right here with Lucy in his lap.
It’s perfect.

Lucy wakes up a little bit later, and sees Tim has fallen asleep as well. She studies him for a moment and she realizes she wants this. She wants him and them together falling asleep on the couch for the rest of her life.
It might be too soon into their relationship to even think that but she doesn’t care. She is sure they will end up together.
(Maybe it was time to take their relationship a little farther).
She shakes Tim awake and he slowly wakes up. “Hey,” he mumbles. “It’s late huh?” She nods and leans in to kiss him. They might not be sleeping together, but he was an excellent kisser and she loved to feel his lips on hers.
“We fell asleep.” She whispers. Tim sighs and pushes himself up.
“I better go.” He says. She nods and stands up to and walks him to the door. Soon they wouldn’t have to say bye to each other.
“Goodnight.” She says when they reach the door. He leans in to kiss her, and doesn’t let go for some time.
“Goodnight Luce.” He whispers. He opens the door and she watches him disappear. She yawns and shuts the door behind her.
She might not have her cuddly boyfriend but she would sleep good knowing he was out there asleep too.
Hopefully dreaming of her.
(She would definitely be dreaming of him).

The next time it happens is when she is up all night studying for the detective’s exam. She is sitting on the couch with her legs tucked underneath her. She has a small frown on her face but Tim knows she’s just concentrating. He walks over and lifts her legs back before he’s sitting down.
“What are you doing?” She asks looking up at him, her eyes are tired and red. She looks exhausted. She needs to sleep but he knows it will be hard to convince her.
“Helping you study.” He says. The truth is he’s hoping that if he sits here long enough she will fall asleep.
(That’s his hope.)
“Why?” She asks and she yawns before she is flipping herself around so she can cuddle into him. “Do you love me or something like that?”
“Something like that.” He says. “You need to rest Lucy. You can’t overwork yourself.”
“I’ll be fine.” She insists. “I promise. I’ll be fine.”
“You are exhausted.” He says and presses a kiss to her forehead. “You need sleep.”
“I need to study.” She mutters and then Tim watches as her eyes slowly close. She’s stubborn, but this was for her own good. He gives her another kiss and then carefully pries the notecards from her hands.
She’s asleep.
She’s getting rest and that’s all that matters.

Lucy wakes up later a little disoriented but cuddled into Tim. She sees the tv is off and her boyfriend is fast asleep with his arms around her. She sighs softly, she quite honestly can’t sleep without him next to her.
She thinks of the night where they were fighting and she came home alone. She still studied but it wasn’t the same without him. She definitely prefers him next to her.
Always.
She gently shakes Tim awake, it takes a minute but he finally wakes up.
“What?” He asks sounding groggy. “Everything okay?”
“Yes.” She says smiling at him softly. It always amazes her that she gets to see Tim like this: soft and sleepy. No one else gets to or probably would ever believe her. “Let’s go to bed.”
“Thank god.” He mutters and stands up pulling her with him. “Finally.” Lucy laughs a little and he pulls her to the bedroom.
She would worry about studying later, Tim was right she did need sleep and she had a feeling she was about to be very well rested.

The next time it happens is after he helps her study for the sergeant’s exam. They had just gotten through all the questions and she had answered most of them right when Lucy yawns and then lays her head on his shoulder.
He’s surprised but he doesn’t push her away.
(He would never do that.)
“Tired?” He asks. It’s not really weird having Lucy this close considering they have slept together twice. She had been a lot closer recently, and even though this wasn’t as intimate as that, this felt just as nice.
This felt like another puzzle piece was being put into place. Their relationship was slowly coming together again.
“A little.” She mutters. “I forgot how tiring studying can be.”
“It is,” he says. “But it will be worth it in the end.” He knows Lucy is going to pass the exam. He believes in her more than anyone. More than himself really. He loves her, and he knows this will just be another step forward for them.
(Well he certainly hopes it will be.)
“You know I’m doing this for me.” Lucy says and Tim’s heart falls a little. He knows that deep down but he hoped that it was something else.
“Of course you are,” Tim says gently. “I don’t expect anything out of this Luce.”
“Good.” Lucy says and Tim smiles to himself. He really loves this woman.
“You know you are going to pass right?” Tim asks but Lucy is silent. “Lucy?” He looks down and sees Lucy is fast asleep. He sighs softly, and presses a kiss to the top of her head. He might not get this for long but for right now it’s.. perfect.

Lucy wakes up suddenly and jostles Tim a little. She jumps up before he can say anything, and avoids looking at him.
She fell asleep.
She cannot believe she fell asleep. On Tim. She fell asleep on her ex boyfriend.
“What’s wrong?” Tim asks looking confused. “What—”
“I fell asleep on you.” She says. “I’m sorry.” Tim shakes his head, looking at her like she has nothing to be sorry about.
“It’s okay Luce.” He says gently. “Don’t worry about it.”
“But—”
“We were just studying.” He says and he pulls her back down. It feels too intimate for where they are at in their relationship but yet Lucy can’t move away from him.
He’s intoxicating and she wants him. She has always wanted him, even when she was mad at him.
But it isn’t the right time… not yet anyway. She wants to pass this exam and then maybe she would think about this.
“I know.” She says softly. “You know—”
“I know.” He says and he looks like he means it. “I don’t expect anything more Lucy.”
“Thank you.” She says. “I do appreciate you Tim.” She stands up and leans over to give him a kiss on the cheek.
“Anytime Lucy.” He says softly. “Anytime.” Lucy makes her way to the door, and it might not be perfect but they were definitely getting there.
And that’s all that matters for right now.

The next time it happens is after she gets home from Baja. They are talking, and laughing and just catching up.
He had missed her so much. He can’t quite believe that she is in bed next to him again. She has her head on his chest and at first he thinks she is just thinking about everything because she is so quiet.
At first he is just content with her on his chest and then he looks down and sees she has fallen asleep.
He sighs softly, this hasn’t happened for awhile and it’s such a wonderful sight especially since the last time they weren’t even together.
He runs his fingers through her hair but she doesn’t wake. He kisses her gently on the top of the head and he loves her so much.
He was so worried while she was away, even though he knew she knew what she was doing and she was good at the job.
He always will worry.
He takes a deep breath and just watches her sleep. She seems comfortable and to be honest this is exactly where he wants to be.
Always.

Lucy wakes up and looks over to see Tim reading something. He seems like he has been up for awhile but he doesn’t seem restless or tired. He seems content.
“Hi.” She says. Tim looks over at her, and puts his book down before scooting closer to her.
“Hi.” He says pressing a kiss to her lips. “Did you have a good rest?”
“Yes,” she says but she is tired. She wants to fully go to sleep because she really hadn’t slept while undercover. Not without Tim next to her.
“Good.”
“But I want to go to sleep.” She says. Tim nods and puts the book on the bedside table and then rolls back over so Lucy can put her head back on his chest again.
“I’m glad you are home Luce.” He whispers. Lucy nods as her eyes slowly close. She is glad she is home too. Tim is her home.
“Me too.” She mutters.
“Goodnight Lucy.”
“Goodnight Tim.”

The next time it happens is after they are rescued and they don’t want to be separated from each other.
Tim is clingy, and he will be the first to admit that he is clingy. He really doesn’t want her out of his sight. He is always touching her or has her close when they sleep. And the thing is, she doesn’t mind either. In fact, she seems to want it. She seems to actually look for it any chance she gets.
They are on the couch, after a long day at work. The days seem to drag on and go fast at the same time. He’s not sure how that’s possible but—
Lucy is curled up into his side, he is of course touching her gently and the tv is on low. It’s all they need right now. Lucy adjusts a little and her ring is visible. His heart drops a little when he remembers how it was tossed at him and he begged them to tell him she was okay but it was silent.
They didn’t say anything and he thinks that was the worst part of it all.
Not knowing if his fiancée was okay or not.
Not knowing if he was actually going to get to marry Lucy or it was all a pipe dream at this point.
Somehow they both came out of it alive and he couldn’t be more thankful for that. The ring was just a reminder that they were going to get married.
“Hey,” Tim whispers. “We need—” But then he looks down and sees Lucy is fast asleep. Tim smiles a little and gives her a kiss on top of her head. They had all the time in the world to plan their wedding.
Right now she needs to sleep.
***
Lucy wakes up to a dark room, and Tim not next to her and she panics. She remembers falling asleep tucked into him.
(It’s not like he would let her go anywhere else).
She sits up straight and notices the tv is off, she frowns a little. It’s not like Tim would just go to bed without her.
She sits up some more and is about to get up when Tim walks back into the room. “Sorry,” he says when he sees she’s awake. “Bathroom.”
Lucy lets out a breath she didn’t even know she was holding. Thank god.
“Were you worried?”
“A little.”
“I’m sorry baby. I didn’t mean to just leave—” Tim starts but Lucy shakes her head. She feels silly for always wanting Tim.
“It’s fine.”
“Come on,” Tim says pulling her up. He offers his hand and she takes it. “Let’s go to bed.”
That sounds good to her.
Perfectly good.

The next time it happens is just after they get married. It’s when they are on their way to their honeymoon.
They are seated in first class (Tim refused to get any less) and Tim is in the aisle. She looks over at him and he looks like he’s nodding off.
(They did get in late from their wedding reception and they didn’t go to sleep until 2am).
“Hey,” she says nudging him. “You are missing the view.” Tim mutters something under his breath.
“You kept me up late.” He says. “I’m tired.”
“Excuse me I kept you up?” She asks in disbelief. “Who woke me—”
“Shhhh.” Tim grumbles. “I couldn’t help myself. I had to share you all day yesterday.”
“Now you get me to yourself.” She says. Tim mumbles something again under his breath. His head is on her shoulder. “For two weeks.” It’s silent and she looks down to see her husband fast asleep.
Of course.
“That’s alright.” She mumbles pressing a kiss to the top of his head. “Just sleep.”
***
Tim wakes up and lifts his head up to see Lucy looking out the window. He looks her up and down and sees she has hand on her lap and he can see her wedding ring.
The one he gave her yesterday.
They were married.
Finally.
“Hey,” He nudges her and she looks over with a big grin on her face.
“Hi sleepyhead.” She says leaning over to kiss him. “How was your nap?”
“Good.”
“Mmm.” Lucy says and this time she lays her head on his shoulder. “I have a feeling we aren’t going to get a lot of sleep the next few days.
Not if he had anything to do with it.
He was about to show his wife how much he loves her. If he could move, he would take her to the bathroom. They did it once—well sort of.
They almost did it.
“You know if this wasn’t a crowded plane we would be joining the mile hike club.” He whispers. Lucy’s cheeks flush and she hits his leg.
“Tim.”
Tim just grins at her, and gives her a kiss before he’s reaching for her hand lacing his fingers with hers.
“Just saying.”
“You didn’t get enough last night?” She ask. Tim scoffs, he would never get enough of her. Ever.
“I will never get enough of you baby.” He says. “Believe me.”
“Good to know.” She says. “I love you.” Tim studies her for a minute, he has never been so in love.
“I love you too.”
