Light up my world

Chapter Text

It’s five days later when Jungkook decides to contact Taehyung. Namjoon gave him an earful about missing work and Seokjin giggled a shit lot the night of the fight but Jungkook just huffed and ignored it.

His mind is far too preoccupied by Taehyung.

And it stayed like that for quite a while.

True to his word, the man really did give him some space and time to reflect. Reconsider if he really wanted him, with all his scars and flaws, with all the pain that came with it. Jungkook took that time.

He remembers when he saw Taehyung laying on the warehouse floor, whimpering in pain. He remembers when he saw Taehyung holding up the gun in the park. He remembers the lack of light in his eyes when he looked up at Jungkook, eyes so dull all of a sudden, the one thing he never wanted to witness. He doesn’t know if he could deal with knowing Taehyung will always be in that danger, never truly escaping it.

But then he remembers all of Taehyung's silly jokes and antics, his little giggle when Jungkook was evidently frustrated and annoyed. He remembers Taehyung’s insistence on making Jungkook go new places, try new things, the way he constantly talked and pushed Jungkook out of his comfort zone, and listened like he hung onto every word. He remembers Taehyung’s pretty smile and pretty hair and pretty orgasm face.

And he realizes he’s far too gone to let Taehyung go for good.

“Hey, I haven’t seen that blue haired man in a while,” Seokjin mumbles as they perform surgery on an old man together. Perhaps not the best time to have a conversation like this but Jungkook’s been desensitized a long time ago.

Jungkook shrugs, not bothering to open his mouth with a response.

But Seokjin is similar to Taehyung, the way he doesn’t give up. “How come?”

“None of your business, is it?” Jungkook snaps, furrowing his brows. Seokjin giggles, putting his equipment down to raise his hands in defense.

“Damn, you’re so much more irritable without Taehyung. I was enjoying you being less grumpy the past few weeks,”

And he just rolls his eyes and continues with the surgery. But the words don’t leave his head, especially the realization that it was true. He looked forward to working so much more knowing that Taehyung would be there for at least 5 minutes every day, giggling and relieving him from his stress.

That’s what leads him to picking up his phone, staring at Taehyung’s contact and swallowing his pride.

𝘑𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘬𝘰𝘰𝘬: 𝘞𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘬?

The reply is almost immediate, so fast that if he didn’t know better he’d think Taehyung was waiting by his phone just for Jungkook to text him. Knowing him, it probably wasn’t far from the truth.

𝘝: 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘯𝘦𝘸𝘴 𝘰𝘳 𝘣𝘢𝘥 𝘯𝘦𝘸𝘴...

𝘑𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘬𝘰𝘰𝘬: 𝘑𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵.

𝘝: 𝘰𝘬😓
𝘝: 𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘯 10 ⏰

He tries not to smile at the emoji usage, very characteristically Taehyung. But if Taehyung were to come to his workplace again… He’d rather not get screamed at by Namjoon again. He’d never admit it but the man could definitely be intimidating at times.

𝘑𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘬𝘰𝘰𝘬: 𝘕𝘰.
𝘑𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘬𝘰𝘰𝘬: [𝘈𝘥𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴] @ 8

He sends the address of a nearby cafe, one with loads of sweets and desserts he had a feeling Taehyung would like. It was also his way of letting Taehyung know there was nothing to stress about.

𝘝: 𝘰𝘰𝘰 𝘵𝘳𝘺𝘯𝘢 𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘮𝘦 𝘫𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘬𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘦?
𝘝: 𝘑𝘒𝘑𝘒
𝘝: 𝘐'𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 😉😘
𝘝: 𝘰𝘩 𝘨𝘰𝘥
𝘝: 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘨𝘯𝘯𝘢 𝘣𝘦 𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘬 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘢 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯...
𝘝: 𝘴𝘳𝘳𝘺 𝘪𝘮 𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨
𝘝: 𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘱 𝘵𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨
𝘝: 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘓𝘖𝘓𝘓𝘓 😂
𝘝: o𝘬𝘢𝘺, 𝘐'𝘭𝘭 𝘴𝘩𝘶𝘵 𝘶𝘱 𝘯𝘰𝘸, 𝘣𝘺𝘦.

Jungkook snorts at the word vomit coming from Taehyung, so fucking endearing. He didn’t realize how much he missed it- Taehyung’s relentless enthusiasm and his personality that always felt larger than life. And he never wants the mob boss to apologize for being himself.

𝘑𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘬𝘰𝘰𝘬: 𝘐𝘵'𝘴 𝘰𝘬𝘢𝘺.
𝘑𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘬𝘰𝘰𝘬: 𝘐𝘵'𝘴 𝘤𝘶𝘵𝘦.

He locks his phone and puts it away, ignoring the burst of notifications and buzzes he got immediately after sending the texts, chuckling with a little smirk.

~

Jungkook feels nervous. Palms clammy, heart jittering in his chest kind of nervous. Like going out on a first date. Which he thinks is fucking ridiculous because he’s seen this man through ups and lows, and it was anything but a date.

In fact, it could easily turn into a final goodbye.

He knows that this conversation wouldn’t just be about them making up and Jungkook letting Taehyung back into his life but more about whether he could handle everything that came with Taehyung’s world. Or whether 𝘛𝘢𝘦𝘩𝘺𝘶𝘯𝘨 could either.

If you asked him about a month ago, he’d say that the answer is obvious; No. Don’t get into a stupid mess all because of feelings. A month ago, it would have been much easier to just leave Taehyung and his complicated life alone.

But he supposes that his self control was just as bad as Taehyung’s because here he is, unable to stay away.

He invited Taehyung to a cafe, a dog cafe specifically, Jungkook remembering that Taehyung loved dogs. And maybe the discussion they were about to have wasn’t the most appropriate conversation in the middle of a place like this but he believes that it’d really take the stress away as well.

He walks into the cafe looking around for that blue mop of hair. He doesn’t find it. Instead a different colour catches his eye: fiery bright red. Taehyung is already seated in a corner booth, giggling and petting a little pomeranian that hopped onto his lap. He looked beautiful with red hair, just as Jungkook predicted.

When his brown eyes flick up, they widen. “Woah! You look like you did the day I met you. Hot.”

Jungkook snorts, unable to hold it in. After the tense environment in which they met last time and the lack of conversation for over five days, this was the first thing he said? It was so on brand of him, Jungkook’s heart swells up.

“How are you?” Jungkook asks as he settles in the chair and looks across to the mob boss. Watching Taehyung’s warmth and energy seep into the room, affecting everything around him would never not be magical.

“Mmm, I’ve been better. Hurts to lift my shoulder but it’s okay. On the plus side, Taehwan’s definitely left me the fuck alone!”

Maybe Taehyung doesn’t notice it himself but Jungkook does, he notices the way Taehyung’s shoulder’s slump slightly and his smile dims a little.

“What about you? Have you been eating well without me the past few days?”

Jungkook shrugs, ignoring Taehyung’s frown and obvious disapproval. “I’ve been eating better than before at least! I’m managing.”

“Hmm, I would’ve dropped off a box for you but we’ve been dealing with a lot of things right now. I had to hold a funeral for every person that died.” Taehyung looked heartbroken at the memory and it destroyed Jungkook even more.

He doesn’t understand why the man would stay in such a position when he clearly didn’t like the thought of death.

“Um.” Jungkook hesitates, tilting his head. “I’m sorry if this is overstepping but I just really need to know… How come you don’t just leave? Why are you still in that…’ 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘳’?” The label is far from what it really was but he says it for a lack of a better word.

Taehyung shrugs, his hand going down to pet the dog in his lap even more, obviously tensing up at the mere mention of the topic. “I’m connected to it by my father.”

Jungkook nods, trying to gently urge Taehyung to tell him more. Because he knows that there was much more going on than that.

Taehyung sighs, eyes not leaving the puppy. “I can’t abandon this life. My parents were from rival gangs and I was a fucking mistake when I was born but they raised me to rule this empire they left behind. That's all I have left of them…”

The puppy in his hands whines as if sensing the man’s distress.

“Yoongi and Jimin – They were my only family for a long time. And I’ve been trying to get the hang of such a new position. And I won’t lie to you, I haven’t given my mob many reasons to trust me as their leader. But… I think I’m starting to figure it out?”

Taehyung shakes his head, pressing his eyes together. “I agreed to come talk to you because I wanted to properly apologize for lying to your face and I 𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘳 I won’t do it again. But I won’t promise that I’ll never get hurt, because truthfully I probably will.”

“But I don’t want to see you risking yourself everyday,” Jungkook whispers, mumbling loud enough for Taehyung to hear. “Is there really no alternative? You don’t- Taehyung, you don’t even look happy here.”

He pauses, breathing in. “When I saw you last time, you looked fucking destroyed. What happened to all your dreams about being a lawyer? You’ll just give it up for the rest of your life?”

Taehyung looks bashful all of a sudden, shy. He avoids his gaze, biting his lips. “Well I’ve been thinking…

I’m planning on leading next to Jimin. Minnie. My right-hand man.”

The man on the telephone, caring for Taehyung.

“And I might be applying for law school next year! Jimin and I are planning to work to keep our mob more safe, especially after we lost a few men to that fight. I don’t know if it’ll ever be truly safe but we’re trying. I was thinking a lot about it after you left the warehouse.” The mob boss shrugs, biting at his lips.

Jungkook’s heart swells with pride, watching the gleam in Taehyung’s eyes as he talks about his childhood dream. “Taehyung, that's incredible! Applications open in September, I’ll help you.”

“Really?” Taehyung looks so hopeful, gleaming at the words. “I mean- I don’t know if I’ll be smart enough but-”

“Of course, Tae.” Jungkook nods reassuringly.

“Jungkookie…” And it’s seconds before the waterworks burst, tears streaming down Taehyung’s eyes. The redness in his puffy cheeks and the bright gleam in his eyes were becoming a familiar sight. “You’re so sweet! I like you so much, oh my god.”

The red-head wipes at his tears furiously, “God, I didn’t even mean to cry!” He tries to laugh it off but it’s shaky. “Does my face match my hair now?”

The doctor laughs at that, because it really did. “Yeah. But you look good with red hair,” He comments. He hands Taehyung a napkin and allows him a few seconds to wipe his tears away.

“You know, I half-thought you were going to come here to tell me to get lost for good. Bring me to a dog cafe to break my heart gently.”

Jungkook huffs, raising his hand to call a waiter. “I actually brought you here because my boss was getting annoyed with you.”

“Pshh, rude!” Taehyung rolls his eyes playfully. “My presence lights up the room!” And he didn’t know just how accurate that sentence was.

“Also, your boss is an asshole. You work too much. I need to ask him to give you a break so we can finally go to a noraebang.”

“I know,” Jungkook groans, resting his head on his hands. Once a waiter comes up, they order drinks and food.

“This place has pretty good strawberry milkshakes, I think you’ll like it.”

“Hmm? Why’s that? Because of my red hair…?”

It’s Jungkook that looks bashful now, avoiding Taehyung’s inquisitive eyes. “Well no. You just mentioned liking strawberries.”

“Hmm?” Taehyung looks up and scrunches his eyebrows together, as if trying to recollect that memory. “I don’t remember that? Weird, I have a pretty good memory.”

“You told me the night we met,” Jungkook mutters, immediately preferring to pet the dog near his feet rather than let Taehyung see his blushing face. But when he did look up, he doesn’t regret it because the way the redhead gleams at that information is something he’ll never forget.

“What? You remember that?”

“I don’t know how but whatever you say just automatically stores in my brain.”

“You’re so cute…” Taehyung mumbles happily, a light pink dusting his cheeks. “Is that why you brought me here,”

Jungkook rolls his eyes at the sheer glee in his eyes. It couldn’t be that crazy that he remembered a few details about the other. “You’re holding a pomeranian. The same breed as your dog,” He points out.

“Oh stop!” Taehyung smiles so wide, his lips might split. “You keep going and I might actually fall in love,”

And although he said it in a joking manner, Jungkook can’t help but think about the distant future. If they’d actually be a couple, in love together. He never had the time or the luxury to think about shallow things like that, like relationships.

Maybe he doesn’t feel in love right now but he has a feeling that it won’t be long before he does.

The waiter comes back with an espresso for Jungkook and a strawberry milkshake for Taehyung.

“Of course you got an espresso. Fitting for you.” Taehyung teases, giggling as he strokes the fur of the dog. “Isn’t that right, puppy? Isn’t he just a broody little guy,”

“I’m not broody or little,” Jungkook scoffs but the sight of Taehyung and the little puppy is far too adorable for him to be annoyed any longer.

They have their food before Taehyung announces that he needs to leave early. “Jimin wants to try a new training program for the members so I need to go oversee it,” He explains before he smiles apologetically.

“I enjoyed this so much, Jungkookie,” He says before leaving. “We’re busy tomorrow but I’ll be sure to drop by to annoy your boss into giving you a break,”

Jungkook chuckles at that, smiling genuinely at him. His cheeks haven’t hurt this much from smiling in a while. “I’d appreciate that, Taehyung. Good night!”

Taehyung waves at him before waving the pomeranian goodbye, blowing them both a kiss before skipping out of the cafe in an evidently good mood. Jungkook sighs laying back in his booth, staring at the little golden retriever puppy on his own lap.

“You look a lot like him,” He whispers when the puppy licks his hand, panting up at him with big, brown eyes.

He remembers back when they first met, when Taehyung irritated him to no bounds, talking his ear off and dragging him all over the place. And it’s a distant memory, extremely distant. But he remembers saying, “God help the man that falls in love with you.”

Taehyung had replied, “Would you be the one to do so,”

And he had rolled his eyes, finding the statement to be appalling, the possibility close to zero. But now, he thinks about just how right Taehyung was.

Because he would totally fall in love at this rate.

~~~~
Two weeks later, Taehyung’s pushed against his own apartment door, moaning for air as Jungkook thrusts into him. “Mmm, Jungkookie, so thick,” He moans, voice raspy and broken. He’s so thankful his injuries healed fast because Jungkook refused to touch him otherwise.
When the doctor grinds into him, he does everything not to whine all high-pitched and needy. “Please, please, please.”
Jungkook ignores his nonsensical begging, continuing to grind against his prostate all slow and teasingly. His hands scramble for purchase against the other’s back, nails digging deep enough to leave red crescent shapes and scratch marks all over him.
If Jungkook could litter hickeys and bruises over his neck and chest, he could mark him his own way.
“You like that?” Jungkook murmured low and deep against his ear. Taehyung had a stern talking to him earlier, telling him he needs to be more vocal during sex. Mostly just because he was embarrassed with how affected he sounded and how unaffected the other sounded.
And he’s glad he did because the sound of Jungkook’s feathery deep voice in his ear was almost enough to make him cum.
“Y-yes, so much, so much Jungkookie,” he whines, wrapping his legs around Jungkook’s torso 𝘵𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘦𝘳, pulling him in 𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘳. “Kook- Kookie. Baby, faster, c’mon,” His voice slurs together, unintelligible but Jungkook seemed to understand from the way he was pressing against him needily.
“Patience baby, doing so good.” Jungkook smirks and it makes a fresh set of tears flow down Taehyung’s cheeks. God, why did he have to cry so much.
The ravenhead’s grip tightens around Taehyung’s waist, painful but oh so pleasurable. Taehyung curses how unexpectedly good Jungkook was with his hips, rolling them in the perfect angle. He’s a fucking doctor, where did his experience even come from anyway?
His voice is ruined when he starts to grunt. “Ju-Jungkookie, I can’t- Ah! You’re so slow, go faster. Faster, I need it. Need it! Stop teasing’! Oh god-”
The redhead’s resolve breaks and his legs tremble when Jungkook nips at his neck, biting and sucking, saliva coating his nape with zero shame at all. The doctor finally gives in a little, letting Taehyung have a taste of a little bit of heaven.
He picks up speed as he thrusts, hitting deeper with each movement, fully supporting Taehyung’s weight as he bounces him on his cock. And Taehyung finds that extremely hot (sue him for having a major muscle and strength kink)
“Yes, yes, yes” He babbles mindlessly, (cock-dumb as he sometimes jokes). His words rush out of his mouth fast, unable to stop. “Just like that, don’t stop- Please Jungkookie. Don’t stop!”
Jungkook chuckles against his skin, overheated from their current activity. He presses his soft lips against Taehyung’s, swallowing up all his moans and whimpers, his cries and babbles. He’s reduced to feeling like a straight up fleshlight with how Jungkook was handling him, bouncing however he saw fit.
He can’t lie and say he doesn’t love it. He loves giving up control during sex, too overwhelmed from being in control in real life all the time.
Once Jungkook finally pulls away to let them catch their breath, a single spit strand connecting their swollen lips, he laughs yet again. “You just can’t shut up, yeah? Always so so talkative, even when I’m fuckin’ you.”
“You love it,” Taehyung defends, furrowing his brows.
“That I do.”
And finally, he decides to take pity on the poor man, giving him what he’s been desperately begging for the last 15 minutes. It’s faster, harder, enough to make the mob boss’ head go blank with blinding pleasure. Everything is an incoherent mess of words and moans.
His red hair is matted against his slick sweaty forehead, blocking his vision from Jungkook and it annoys him to no extent. He pushes it away as fast as he can, blinking the tears away from his blurry eyes so he can see Jungkook’s face contort with pleasure as well.
And when they finally reach their bliss, clean everything up, and dispose of whatever they need to dispose of, they’re in Taehyung’s bed, cuddling. Or well, Taehyung’s cuddling Jungkook while Jungkook’s laying on the bed like an unmovable log, awkward and not knowing what to do with his hands.
Taehyung finds it cute so he wraps himself over Jungkook and rolls around the bed to his heart’s content.
“Hmm, law school applications open in a week,” Jungkook mutters, staring up at the ceiling as Taehyung scooches closer and closer. “Have any idea where you want to apply?”
Taehyung thinks for a second. “I think maybe Yonsei? Or SNU?” Jungkook nods in acknowledgement, rubbing his thumb over the arms draped over his body. “Those are good choices.”
“So, you like my penthouse?”
“It’s very… 𝘺𝘰𝘶. Very vibrant and colourful. Definitely doesn’t scream ‘Mob boss’ or ‘Criminal’ to me.”
Taehyung snickers, peppering little kisses over Jungkook’s skin. “Yeah? It’s better than your apartment right?”
“I barely even live in my apartment, you can’t compare the two!”
Taehyung frowns at that. He feels sad for Jungkook, watching the man walk through the halls of the hospital all dreary and tired, coming to their little dates trying his best to be as energetic as possible even when the dark circles are very visible.
Fuck his boss.
But that did remind him…
“Jungkookie, guess what!”
“Hmm?” The doctor hummed sleepily, eyes closed in peace.
“I talked to your boss two days ago. Kim Namjoon!”
“What?!” Now that made his eyes shoot open, his expression was so comical Taehyung had to snicker a little. “About what? Why?”
“Oh, it’s nothing bad, stop stressing!” Taehyung slaps his shoulder lightly, still grinning widely. “I just… managed to get you a week-long free vacation!”
Jungkook gasps in shock, pure surprise and disbelief on his face. Which was a little offensive because Taehyung would never lie to him (well not anymore of course).
“How? What? Are you joking?”
“Nope!” Taehyung smirks pridefully, hugging Jungkook tighter. “You can ask him yourself if you don’t believe me.”
“But how’d you do that? That’s basically impossible in my job, especially with someone as stuck-up as him?”
“Ah, I simply just… might have slightly….” Okay, Jungkook might get a little mad at him for this. “Might have let it slip that I was a mob boss.”
“Huh?!”
“It worked okay!” Taehyung pouts when he sees Jungkook’s horrified expression. “And you can have the time to do whatever you want for a week, whenever now! See, dating a criminal isn’t so bad, right? Comes with its perks,”
Jungkook raises a brow at him and huffs. “You’re insane.” he states.
“Okay, do you want the vacation or not because I’m sure your coworker Seokjin would love to have it instead.”
“No! No. It’s okay. I already have trip ideas in my head.”
“Oh, where? Please don’t go too far or I’ll miss you too much.”
“Daegu,” Jungkook answers, smiling sweetly at Taehyung. Taehyung’s about to open his mouth and complain, whining about him leaving him all alone until Jungkook beats him to it. “You’re coming with me, Taehyung. You said there were places you wanted to see, right?”
Taehyung quietly nods, looking at Jungkook intently.
“Well first, I’ll take you to noraebang. Then, we can explore the city, go stargazing, maybe meet back with Hoseok?” Taehyung nods enthusiastically, eyes now resembling a puppy’s and if he had a tail, it’d be wagging.
“And then, I’ll take you to the strawberry fields. Take you back to my mansion and we can enjoy the week there. Hmm? How’s that sound?”
“Perfect,” Taehyung drawls, dozing off just imagining it.
“Well when will I have that break anyway?”
“Whenever you want!”
Jungkook looks to be deep in thought before he shrugs, pulling Taehyung out of bed. “Well get packing then because we’re going tomorrow.”
Taehyung whines and complains as he packs, overthinking what shoes to bring or what clothes to wear. Jungkook shushes him with a kiss.
And as they get into Jungkook’s car the next day, driving off to fuckass Daegu, Taehyung thinks that there’s quite literally nowhere else he’d rather be than beside Jungkook.
