Void Hero – Hiatus / Revival
Void Hero has always held a special place in my heart. It was my first published fic, and every month that passed without an update tasted bitter—not because I couldn’t write (I’ve written around 400–500k words across several projects since then), but because I couldn’t bring myself to return to this one.
The truth is simple: I lost my motivation for Void Hero.
Not from a lack of love, but because I felt boxed in by its old structure, its old expectations, and the version of myself who wrote it years ago. This fic is my oldest posted work. I wanted to honor its “original vision,” even as that vision became a cage.
So I made a decision last week.
Redux: brought back; revived.
I’ve already written the first chapter of Void Hero: Redux, and outlined the story through roughly Chapter 20—with room to expand where the plot demands it. As of writing this announcement, I’m doing a final read-through of Chapter 1 and adding more to the planner.
What’s Changing?
Short answer: a lot.
• The Beginning Is Being Rebuilt From the Ground Up
The opening arc is getting a complete overhaul—rewritten in my current style, closer to what you see in The Want To Go Home (TWTGH) and The Silver Knight (TSK) (and yes, the Geneticist rewrite too).
• A Slower Burn, a Darker Story
TWTGH is almost 40 chapters and ~500k words, and it’s barely halfway through its second arc. That approach—preplanning, pacing, long-form development—is coming to Void Hero.
Redux will be darker, heavier, and more honest about the kind of world Izuku is stepping into. No more single-chapter pity party. This version digs deeper.
• Better Integration of the MHA / Hollow Knight Worlds
Not just Mato, Oro, and Sheo thrown in at the start.
Actual groundwork. Actual buildup. Actual consequence.
More world, more lore, more everything.
• Romance Will Have Time to Breathe
Slow burn. Multiple potential routes. A real culmination—not just “well, guess this happens now.”
• Stronger Battles, Better Scene Crafting, Sharper Dialogue
If you’ve read my more recent fics, you know what to expect.
Redux will meet that standard.
• Quirk Drawbacks, Power Scaling, and Consistency
Anyone who has read TWTGH knows how much I love quirk drawbacks. Expect them here, and expect them to matter.
And yes, I’m buffing powers the way I always do now. If someone gets OFA, they’re not just getting strength—they’re getting the durability that should come with it. I like high-power scaling fiction, and Redux will reflect that.
What Redux Keeps From the Original
A lot of the core worldbuilding remains intact. The Hollow Knight influence is still front and center—bugs and beings reshaped into MHA quirked individuals, the Dream World being strange, and some other smaller choices.
Inko stays exactly as she should be: a kickass Chief Medical Officer. Recovery Girl remains the sharp-tongued, wonderful grandma we all love. And Izuku? He’s still short, still powerful, and he’s staying small. I don’t know what to tell you. He’s compact, he’s stubborn, and it works.
Redux will also carry forward the psychological elements I originally hinted at but never gave enough space. Izuku’s agoraphobia and enochlophobia will be treated with far more realism and weight this time—slowly developed, lived-in, and tied directly to the events shaping him.
And of course, his abilities from the original version are still coming with him. Some will be rethought, rebalanced, or expanded, but the heart of his power set remains. I’m not stripping away anything meaningful—just refining it.
To My Readers
Consider this the official notice.
If you miss the fic and don’t mind a darker tone, go read Void Hero: Redux. I can’t promise monthly updates like TWTGH, but I can promise steady progress—one to two chapters every couple of months. Now that I’m back in the rhythm of juggling multiple projects, that pace is absolutely doable.

P.S. Redux will also be getting a YouTube podfic, just like TWTGH. It’ll take a bit—aside from beta reads from my friend Rom, I’m a one-man operation. Thank you for your patience.
