Chapter 7: Moms' Night Out

Summary:

Anxiety, encouragement, and babbles from Cal El.

Chapter Text

"Kara, Lena. It's lovely to see you looking so fresh." Alex teased her sisters. In reality, they looked exhausted. "You're lucky we're here," she gestured to Kelly and herself, "because you two are going out. As in, on a date."

"What are you talking about?" Kara asked, befuddled. Maybe she was sleep addled, or sleep less. The world would never know.

(She was definitely sleep deprived.)

Lena looked at Alex like she was going to cry. "Alex? Kelly? What are you two doing here?"

"Cal El is almost six months old from coming out of the matrix. Neither of you have left the house together since he came out. You two need to remember you're still wives as well as mothers." Alex explained, making a grabby hand motion for the child in Kara's arms.

Kara's grip on the baby tightened. "We-- we can't leave him. What if he forgets about us?" She panicked.

Lena let out a hysterical little laugh. "Are you expecting us to just...leave?" she asked incredulously. "No warning?"

"Giving you warning now." Alex shrugged.

Kelly sighed, "Babe," she said. "You need to give them the choice."

Alex shook her head. "I need them to come back to themselves. They're in mommy fog." Alex insisted.

Kara and Lena exchanged a look with each other as if to say, "are you hearing this? can you believe her?"

It was only when the silence stretched that Lena and Kara realised just how long it'd been since they went out -- just the two of them.

"You'll watch him like a hawk?" Kara asked reluctantly, handing the baby over to his aunt Alex. Cal El babbled at Alex, reaching up with his hand clumsily to touch her chin.

"He won't leave my sight, Kar. I promise." Alex swore, saluting quickly before taking Cal El in her arms. "Ehrosh: bem little one!" She greeted the infant in Kryptonian. "How are you, little man?"

Lena bit her lip. "We need to get ready then." She looked at Kara, a soft smile appearing on her face. "Are you sure about this, zhao?" She asked gently. "We don't have to go out."

Kara shook her head. "We do. I want you to remember what it is to be my wife, as well as the mother of my child. Alex is right." She took Lena's hand, leading her up the stairs to get ready for their night out. "Come on, my love." she urged.

"Alright," Lena's face broke out into a wide, delighted smile. "You don't have to tell me twice."
