Cessation had been odd since the autopsy began.
Not that everything in the Overworld wasn’t wonderfully and fascinatingly odd, but, after working for so long in Cessation’s lab, Flare had baseline expectations. The deviations of their cold acerbic familiarity with the sculk-infested cadaver, the voice gone stiff, clinical and the body gone atypically corporeal, and cordiality to Díi did not fall within reasonable parameters.
When Flare delivered las lab report for an autopsy Cessation didn’t remember, Cessation grew confused. And when Flare delivered las second lab report, the one documenting their odd behavior, the one Cessation had signed off on as Wickburn Asper?
Well. Cessation grew scared. But more importantly, they grew fangs.

Statement of Purpose: The standard protocol of an excellent scientist necessitates the extensive analysis of failure. It is in this crucible of unrejected null hypotheses and unresolved equations that parameters narrow. The proceeding thousands of incorrect questions chisel down to the true inquiry that will yield promising results. Analyzing a failure does not oneself a failure make.
No matter how many times I tell myself this, it becomes no easier to bear.
