Summary
After the events of Kingdom Hearts 3, Riku and Kairi set out to find Sora and bring him home, even as Sora and his Heartbroken fight them at every turn.
Following Sora to new worlds- dark, light and eclipsed -Riku learns about the burden of the χ-Blade, the fall of Scala ad Caelum, and the sometimes fragile nature of the Heart.

“The townspeople say it’s a monster. C’mon, the sooner we brief Aqua, the sooner we can leave. You’re coming, right?”
Riku can’t immediately think of the last time he’d been on a mission with Sora. With just Sora - probably not since before Sora had begun taking on students. Just the thought of fighting side-by-side sends a little thrill up his spine; crossing keyblades in practice is not the same as sharing keyblades against a real enemy. Riku finds himself craving that connection more and more each time Sora boards the Gummi Ship without him.
“Not even Grandmaster Aqua herself could stop me.”
“She wouldn’t dare. This thing is ours.”
Masters Riku and Sora have settled into life at the Land of Departure, training a new era of Keyblade wielders. Having leaped directly from best friends to more, the worst they ever deal with nowadays is being apart. On a visit to a world called Albion, Sora discovers that it's under threat from a monster known as the Questing Beast. As he and Riku set out to find adventure in the fabled Camelot, they embark on a journey that will open old wounds and test the strength of their relationship.

Summary
After a year of searching, Sora and Riku have returned, though this time it is Riku's strength that has been lost. Sent on a vacation/mission, they now search the stars to find out more about the mysterious robed figure who "helped" Riku awaken Sora from his crystalized state.
Sora has vowed to protect his most precious person no matter the cost, while Riku wants to court Sora properly via the courting rituals from their homeworld. Both promises are a little hard while hopping from world to world.
