   I have a rule for myself personally, if the story is updated with in a year or less I will start it, if I enjoy it then I will follow it in the hopes that it will be updated later, if I come across the story and it wasn't updated for years and it isn't finished I don't touch it, and if that story gets updated later on and I see it then I start it because the first rule now applies, if this sounds logical to you then by all means go for it ;3

   One small addendum, check to see if the author has officially announced on the channel if they abandoned the story, sometimes they do give you a heads up.
